Personally I'd let people spawn however much they want. No sense in an artificial building limit. However, I would give everybody access to blocks. I can't get anything done without blocks.
The beauty of the look but no touch public access is that anybody can see the server to see if they want to join. But yeah, will need to be careful who you let touchey.
Also, just for completeness sake.
Other Games I Play: BlazBlue, StreetFighter, Halo, Smash Brothers: Melee (not brawl).
I have to ask, when is this little experiment going to be over? It is silly enough that we disabled the shop without a server reset, but now we're actively dismantling all the things people have built?
All, of these things would be fine if the server started out that way, but not when you change the rules half-way through the game. People have been building and planning based on how the server has and was being run, changing the rules like this is only going to keep people from signing on. If you want to run this kind of experiment, it would be better to just do a temp map.
Sorry, I've been busy the last few days. But I'll have time to be on again later. I'm gonna be showing it to some friends, maybe I can grow our numbers.
Would it be a good idea to get clearance to build in spawn city? Make sure only things we want are what people see when they log in? Also, I want to start on a public transportation monorail for when minecarts work. Any thoughts on the matter?
Believe me I don't want to start over my monstrosity either (I'm still thinking about the top of the tower). Maybe a good answer is to create a new spawn city or do some work on the current one? The sentiment I get, is that we could improve the serve on the whole with a little planning.
If we do, do a reset, we should make sure to have a plan from the outset. Nothing complicated, just enough to make sure that spawn city is fairly grand and a little less eclectic. Something similar to Jadon's would be good (spawn building, nice clean divides).
Of course, I'm good with things the way they are too. It all works for me.
I think if there is a good pricing system in place the iConomy could actually work well. It would supply some meaning to just mining, as opposed to aimlessly digging looking for something useful. Also, it would make finding gold much less of a let down. Once again, the price structure would be key. You don't want people trading a stack of stone for something valuable. The amount of work required should be equal (easier said than done, I'm aware).
Also, iConomy could be more useful when/if the server gets larger.
I was aware some of those could be crafted, I was just thinking about convenience. But still, your point about the world getting corrupted might be valid, except people do build using those items (on your server even), and I haven't heard of any corruption problems.
On another note, I will be finished with the first chamber of the TreeDome soon. There are two adjacent halls labeled Gold and Diamond Quarter that will be available for anybody who wants to build in them. Some digging will be required.
Also, if anybody has any ideas for the other 3 "roots" please let me know, I'm lacking inspiration at the moment.
This is as good a time as any to suggest this but...
Does anybody want to do a reset. I don't really have any problems with the server but I think that with a little better organization upfront we could do alot better. And I do respect that I am newer and there are a few monolithic structures out there.

Still, it's your call obviously.

Many of these items cannot be crafted but are still very useful in constructing detailed structures.
