I'm hosting a Mario Kart server for a while! We'll see how it goes. If it catches on, it might run for a few weeks B)

    IP is mariokartmc.mcpro.io

    (Java 1.12.2)

*EDIT* Server is now closed. Thanks to everyone who played on it!

You can still play MKMC online via a free stickypiston server: https://trial.stickypiston.co/map/mariokart

Also NeoGames is really close to re-launching. It will once again be playable there. (For real this time, I swear)

Okay, so per MCFilms' request, I disabled Elytra on DK Mountain because it's really overpowered (y'know, since the whole track is a downhill jam). By "disabled", I mean that the map immediately swaps out Elytra for mushrooms when it detects that somebody has Elytra. I totally forgot this was a thing when I made the all of the special rounds... whoops. The odds of getting "Free Elytra" on this specific track are pretty slim, so it's not a huge deal... just a little rare quirk now :P

The editing on that video was pretty funny though!

Hey, I know this isn't technically MKMC-related (Well, it somewhat is I guess), but I want to know: On the mirrored Laeto Forest, it's snowing, but yet the weather doesn't seem to affect the terrain. No snow layers appear to be added. How did you do that? I want to make a build where it needs to snow, but I don't want the snow to affect the terrain.

(And in case you're curious, it is the Winter theme for Animal Crossing from Mario Kart 8)

Light sources like torches and glowstone will prevent snow layers from forming near them. Mirror Laeto Forest has glowstone blocks all along the track, so that's how I kept snow off the road. You can also use the "structure void" block to stop snow from forming (this block is pretty much like air, except it's got a funky hitbox and can be broken like any other block).

If you don't want to litter the build with structure voids or light source blocks, there is a way to create invisible light sources by messing with the light values of blocks in MCEdit (you'll need to download a special filter for this). For example, you could use MCEdit to place decaying leaves along the track, use a filter to make all decaying leaves within a selection have a higher light value, and then play the world. The leaves will all go away and the light source will be left behind. The light sources will stay until you place another block in their place or re-calculate the lighting in MCEdit.

I used this filter to make the stained glass on Rainbow Road act as a light source. I also messed with the opacity of the stained glass so the road would show up on the mini-map (transparent blocks normally don't show up on maps).

I don't think I'm doing something right, I played battle with a few friends after downloading the newest version and half the time the item chests didn't appear. After some games one of my friends had their screen spazzed and had to leave and join...

I'm playing on 1.12.2 Optifine, What am I doing wrong?

If item blocks are vanishing or appearing when they shouldn't, that's probably an issue with render distance being too small since chunks must be loaded in order for item blocks to spawn in and function properly. If not, then it's probably another issue of armor stands losing scoreboard values for no reason.

The screen spazzing was probably caused by the map teleporting your friend to the menu while they were still dead.

Were you playing with a low render distance and/or was the server having trouble loading chunks? Also, how many times did you play on a certain battle track before these issues started appearing? I'm not sure if Optifine caused any issues... it's possible since it handles loading chunks a bit differently.

Hey, you know when I did that stream a couple weeks ago and the finish line broke on Sakura City? Yeah. That's not the only time it has happened.

I only notice it with checkpoint nodes, but every once in a while, they'll just suddenly stop working. Sometimes I do one lap, and it works, and the next lap it doesn't. Some of them have happened multiple times, like Checkpoint 3 of Laeto Forest, Checkpoint 2 in Fossil Cove, the Finish Line in Rainbow Road, and Checkpoint 2 in Rainbow Road Mirrored. (That one has happened every time I have played it). It can be fixed by using the node repair item in editor mode, but I never had this problem before the second patch of v1.5.4 (the one that added Waluigi Pinball).

I don't think it happens with item boxes, speed boosts, and stuff like that, just the checkpoints.

From what I understand, this issue has to do with armor stands having their chunks loaded and unloaded which sometimes causes them to completely lose their scoreboard values. This was an issue for me when I was making the main menu, as a certain area of the tutorial was just far enough that it caused the armor stands to quit working. I have no idea why this issue happens, I can only take measures to fix it (i.e. re-assign every scoreboard value to the entity). Luckily for me, they can't lose their NBT data (like their name) so I can always identify them (this is the reason "Node Repair" works).

I'll try and work up a solution to the checkpoint problem. It should be an easy fix, but it might be hard to test since I pretty much never run into this problem myself.

    *EDIT*

This bug is now fixed. Hurrah!

Alright, the "Lite" server resouce pack is now compressed to 13MB.

Also MKMC has been given a minor update (still v1.5.4) that adds support for custom music.

    Guide for custom music:

In MKMC's resource pack, there are now 10 blank sound files that you can replace with whatever audio you want (no time limit).

Programs like Audacity (free audio program) are good for taking audio and converting it to .ogg format. You may want to turn down the amplification of the audio to match the other songs in the soundtrack (full amplification is LOUD in-game). If you want the pack to be downloadable in-game on a server, make sure the pack size stays below 50MB!

To activate your music in-game, check the level editor book. There's an area in the redstone where you can configure stuff (you need to set the song length!).

Here's some more detailed stuff about how to change what music is chosen on a certain track...

If you want your music to play on a certain track, make that track's redstone unit do "/scoreboard players set @e[name=w] bgmTrack 23" or whatever number value your music track is (the area where you configure custom music stuff will tell you the number). This will make the song you chose play every time. Not doing anything will make the map choose a song at random. If you're letting it choose a random song, you can blacklist certain music tracks from appearing randomly by making the redstone unit do "/scoreboard players set @e[name=BGMisolatedmind] radioType 0" (in this example, "isolated mind" cannot be randomly chosen as the music track). This also works for "@e[name=BGMcustom1]" and etc.

Due to server resource pack size limitation (50MB), can you provide a smaller resource pack, please?

My bad, I wasn't aware there was a limit. I'll try and get the "Lite" version below 50MB. Expect that fix by tomorrow evening.

Just a tiny error: (If it was one of the fixes you made, then that's great, but still) N64 Bowser castle says four laps, despite it only lasting 3, when played in Arcade mode.

Oh and one other minor issue: Checkpoint 3 of GBA Sky Garden kinda makes you look upward when you TP to it (oops!) I feel like this may confuse people. It even confused me when I first found the glitch!

Whoops, didn't catch those in testing. Thanks for reporting! Arcade Mode probably has a few more quirks like that... I did all of the names and stuff in bulk while I was probably listening to music or a podcast :P

A mini-update is out now. The map is still v1.5.4 but a few changes have been made.

The XP bar now acts as a speed gauge, a few extra modifiers were added to Versus and Battle mode, the community tracks section has been re-organized (no longer chronological, they're grouped in a similar way to the Normal tracks), "Mission" was moved to the "Bonus" tracks section, "Waluigi Pinball" by Marioman237 was added, and "Nether Fortress" was cut from the map (you know... cause it sucked).

This is the last update for a while. v1.5.5 isn't gonna hit until the soundtrack is done... and to my knowledge it hasn't even entered production yet.

Mapmakers! I've got an unused hub world that Vio and I made a while ago. The project that the hub was made for got canned several years ago. Feel free to use it in your own mapping projects so long as you credit the people listed in the attached text file. B)

posted a message on **[The Kitatcho Laboratories: Episode 2]** The long overdue sequel is almost done!

I recently played Episode 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the map had great presentation, was polished, fun, and engaging from start to finish, and the short length made it feel impactful-- the mechanics didn't have time to get stale and each chamber felt memorable and unique. I'm excited to where the mechanics and story go in Episode 2! I'm a big fan of the Portal games, so puzzle games in this sort of style are great to see!

Amazing map, but the items in the menu still fall...

I know its a little minor, but could you fix that please xD

This has been reported for a long time, but I've never encountered this myself. Could you give me a screenshot or footage of what's happening? I added a system that replaces those armor stands if they ever get deleted (or randomly dissapear), but I guess that wasn't the problem? By "fall", do you mean that the menu icons get affected by gravity?

(By the way, doing "/kill @e[type=armor_stand,r=60,score_menuID_min=11,score_menuID=19]" and then loading a new page of the menu should get rid of your problem)
