I quite liked the idea of 3 colours for every block with one Megaman Clause. It's different. With MCPatcher being allowed, you could certainly work around it. If I may suggest, I say 3 colours and the one MC. If you think that's too much feel free to add a second MC.

Also, I'd like to enter but make no promises as to my finishing. I'm bad at finishing these things.

Yeah, I agree. I'm adding a second MC. Also Added
This sounds quite interesting. I enter! :)
EDIT: Just a one question, can we chose all of the ores, side blocks (means grass side e.t.c) or bricks and cobble moss variants to megaman blocks, because only one of them would be little too limiting.

I've not implemented the exception list, instead I'm adding a second Megaman Clause. also added! and yes, the megaman clause works for all varients of your selected block, so using one on cobblestone will let you use the same MC on mossy as well, and if you're using it on stone bricks, then you also get mossy and cracked. there is a maximum of 3 varients though, so be careful! (I'll be adding these to the rules in a moment) (Also added!)

For any participants using GIMP, here's a couple of palettes:

    http://goo.gl/ua1vam http://goo.gl/Zc4LME

The first is sorted according to the reference palette in the OP, and the second is sorted by hue. Happy texturing.

    this is beautiful

Oh, you're right. The leaves have a fourth color in the background, but it's not visible in the texture itself... only in-game. Do you suppose I should redo them?

    Yes please~

I just wanna go ahead and say this to everyone; We're mostly running on the honour system with pallette checks here, unless someone is *really* good with python, it won't be possible for us to check if every texture follows the guidlines. Remember, this is all in good fun and practice, so we ask you use your better judgment. "Oh if I slip another subtle colour in there no one will notice and it will make it look so much better" isn't cool.

And this goes for *Everyone*, I'm not speaking to you Ringoster, you just reminded me that I needed to bring this up. Just picking on you a bit :D

posted a message on Megacraft Classic - Be the Block Bomber!
Hey man, I wanted to ask, I'm participating in my NES Resource pack challenge, and I was really inspired by the stuff I've seen here while looking around, and it got me all nostalgic and wanting to make a Megaman based texture pack of my own! Now my questions are:

    1. Are you cool with me releasing a pack in a very similar style to your own? I will not steal content by any means, unless by coincedince being that we are using the same source meterial.

    2. Would you be totally against me using something like the name "Megacraft" for my logo.png? I know that might cause some confusion but that is just TOO perfect.

And if you're okay with those, I will totally give you %100 credit for inspiration on my entry and PMC post.
Also, don't worry about me butchering it and making a bad name for you. I grew up on megaman and I know I'll put love into it <3

I would happily be a judge again. It was lots of fun last time. ^_^

I'm not certain if I want to enter or not. On one hand I still wish that I had entered the original, and don't want to repeat that mistake... but on the other hand this would make three incomplete packs that I have sitting around vying for my attention. <_< Hmm... If I have time and am feeling like it maybe I'll make a few blocks and see how I do. For now, no entry from me.

So if I'm understanding this correctly there's no minimum entry?

Hey man, I know you have better judgment with these things than I do, I'll add you! You can request to be added as a contestant whenever you change your mind! Also yes, there is no minimum. That didn't work so well last time around
    Quote from BlazeRiser»
I'd like to be a judge too :D

I may not be very familiar with NES graphics but I'm currently creating my own pack which is rather detailed and complex, therefore I know what effort it takes to make a good pack and to create a good atmosphere.

Regarding your rules, I'd suggest to specify two additional rules:

1: Whether or not contestants are allowed to make use of McPatcher's features

2: Whether or not contestant may change sounds (personally I'd only allow 8bit sounds :P )

    Welcome to Fire_Fist's x16 NES Challenge.. 2!

NEWS:There are some important changes to the Megaman Clause rules, so go check them out!

The goal: Create the best Texture pack to only use resources that were available to the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) and win!

Regarding Deadline: Since I have started this very close to the holidays and many people are with their families and friends, we are going to have an exceptionally far off deadline of January 15th, 2015. This should give everyone who wants to get a head start a great chunk of time, and a reasonable amount of time for those who'd like to wait! You may begin work today (November 26th, 2014)

Thread use: The use of this thread will be similar to that of the First NES Challenge, so feel free to taunt and grieve here just as usual!

    The Contestants:

    The Judges:

    1. Alvoria
    2. BlazeRiser
    3. Ignaf

    Entry:

To enter all you must do is reply to this thread saying you would like to enter.

To enter as a judge, make a request here and I will review it and probably add you to the Roster! Contestants may judge but they are obviously not allowed to give a vote to their own material.
(Keep in mind that final judgement cannot happen until we have at least Five Judges.)

    The Rules:

    1. You must only use the colors in the palette shown below. For best accuracy download the image and use the eyedrop tool! (thanks to Fuzzball for providing the image!)

    2. You may only use 3 Colors per block, with only one exception: The Megaman clause. You may claim the Megaman Clause on Two, and ONLY TWO blocks in your Texture pack, use of which allows you to use a whopping 5 Colors on that block. but you must make it known in your submission post which blocks are your Megaman blocks!
Use of your Megaman clause on a block includes up to 3 Variants of said block, for example, Cobblestone, and mossy, or Stone bricks, cracked, and mossy!

    3. Only one entry per player. Also some of you may remember that I restricted players to only edit the terrain.png.. but now all bets are off, you may now make as many changes as you can! Although the pack still must remain x16 resolution.

    4. MCPatcher may be used, and sounds may be added. And yes they will be considered in judging.

    Welp have a palette then-

If you're going to do it though...how about trying to follow a little more "close" to the NES specifications with colour limit per tile deal?

    Also relevant

Yes I was planning on making the rules a little for strict, I just don't know who's gonna have the time to check each entry to make sure people aren't cheating. But these charts are great, and I'll probably work on the honour system, so I might use these a lot! :D
    Quote from Drazile12»
If there was ever a want for more restrictions, we could have a 'sprite' limit, where you could only make a certain amount of textures, and then recolour those textures (using the other 3 palettes) to make everything else.

I was thinking something along those lines, yes, but at the same time I don't want to go overboard and make something that is Fun and challenging into something that's difficult and annoying. I might run a poll later on. Might do something like a hybrid to where it won't be as easy and simple as the first one, but not as frustrating as trying to recreate it perfectly. I'm thinking that using a limited pallet per block system as Fuzz was suggesting might be the way to go...

posted a message on Updating a texture pack to a Resource pack?
So I've been googling for a bit now and there doesn't seem to be any definite answer on how or what I need to convert a 1.2.5 pack (such as the one in my sig) into a resource pack compatible with 1.8 with split terrain files and whatnot. I know this seems like a noobish question, and I'm sorry! it's for the GOOD OF HUMANITY!

so yeah if someone would help I'd appreciate it long time kthx

Okay so I completely forgot about this project!
I'm like super glad that people finally used it too, that makes this my first coding project someone has actually used xD

So I will get to updating this now! I'll be adding an option to use the the Window.Title method to load profiles suggested by Wifty_16.
Also I'll be implementing the new profiles that have been made by Metal079 (Credit will be given for both)
AND I'll fix the weird autoscrolling bug. Shouldn't take too long.

Hey! Fire_Fist! How are you doing man?! ^_^ Been a while!

As to the contest... I'm still catching up on my main packs from having competed in the Simple Pack Showdown 2. Couple that with the whole holiday season thing and I'm unfortunately not interested right now. I'd love to compete... just not right now. Timing is everything. :(

I've been doing great! just super busy with work (Started working 60hr weeks so it's great and also I don't have friends anymore)

Good point, I might wait until after new year to bring this up xD I still need to brush up if I am to participate!

Hi guy! It's been a while!

I'm basically here to get a census on if there would be enough people around who'd be interested in doing another NES texture pack challenge
    Similar to this.

I went really well last year, other than some complications I had near the end, but all in all it was a really fun exercise. Reply if anyone is interested :D

I think he just meant the TAU thread.

I didn't think the TAU even had a forum/were setting one up, although I know they have an IRC,Twitter account, and were making a website, and did have a server. The latter, of which, I'm uncertain what happened...

Anyhow, welcome back! Nice to see you again.
Not sure if you'd recognise me...?

Are you the person who was working on that community GBA project thing?
