posted a message on Command Block help please
    Cheers man, that's heaps helpful.

I think what I was trying to say is can you test for a item in a storage inventory like a chest, or in this case an arcane pedestal from the Thumcraft 4 mod?

posted a message on Command Block help please
Hi, I'm fairly new to the use of command blocks so I was hoping someone out there could help me out please.

My first is there a way to activate command block without inputting a redstone signal, can you do it just based on a players proximity to the command block. Like can you do something where if a player comes within 30 blocks of the command block a certain mob is summoned?

Secondly, do command blocks put out a redstone signal any more, in the video I watched it said that they do, but every time I try in game I get nothing. So I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong or if has just been changed so that they don't any more.

And finally can you use command blocks in such a way so that if you put certain items in a chest it will activate the command input into the command block or just cause a redstone signal to activate. Like if you were making a map and wanted people to not advance unless they put certain items in different chests to open a door or something simillar?

Thanks to anyone who can give me any advice at all, it is all very appreciated.

    Cheers, Chris.

The way I do it is to upload my screenshots to a site like Flickr and then I just copy and paste to here, for some reason it doesn't work if you just copy it from your desktop.

This is going to take a long time, counting at a rate of one number per second, it would take you a bit less 116 days just to get to 100,000,000, that's about a 1/3 of the year, how long is this gonna take?

posted a message on Asian roofs help please
    Quote from JonSM

You say your attempt turned out well, but did it turn out like you originally wanted it to? Many of the basic shapes in an Asian roof are missing in your picture. I'd also advise against using slabs or stairs for roofs, since they don't create curves very well.

So you said you wanted help, so I tried making an asian-style roof and taking some screenshots of the process. I hope this is useful to you:

So I start with the basic footprint, a square:

Then I do the outline of the roof. Notice how it's not a perfect diagonal slope, but it gets steeper at the top. I've exaggerated slightly in this image:

Now I fill it in. Again, instead of just coming to a point, the shape is a little more complex. There is actually a little triangle cut out at the top.

But the roof isn't perfectly straight, so I add a little curvature on the top.

    Same with the sides:

And now, finally to add the pointy corners that are probably the most important feature of the style. Notice that instead of just extending out (like in your build), they point up as well.

And just for fun, I finished off with a simple base:

Thanks man, I really like what you built and I will definitely incorporate it into future larger builds, but I don't think it would work that well for something so small, I did however add the up bits on the corners like you suggested and it's definitely an improvement.

I have decent experience with asian styled roofs, and I would like to tell you the best way to start is to look at others roofs on the interwebs, but it's no secret that asian builders are few and far between. I found that to get my roofs just right I had to experiment for hours, days, weeks to get them the way I wanted. It is very important to use slabs and stairs, as they are the only way to get a nice, asian styled curve into roofs (Japanese especially, which you seem to be aiming for). I'd like to post a picture of one of my roofs as an example, but I am unable to at this time and will have to do it later. Good luck.

Thanks, I look forward to seeing what you have to post.

Nice house! I like the waterfall, it really makes the house stand out. Any special reason for picking white for the walls? I've noticed a lot of people stick to white for modern houses. I myself would probably go for any of the other colors of stained clay and all the wool hues. I think you'll find that only by changing the wall color, the whole house becomes totally different. Any chance for us to see the interior? I always look for new interior decorating ideas. :)

Cheers man, I chose to use white clay pretty much because that's the colour of most modern homes, they are mostly very muted whites and light greys, so I just decided to follow suit, but I might give it a go and make another one out of a different colour as you suggested.
Here are some pics of the interior for you, I've never fancied myself too good at interior decorations but I think I did okay, I just tried to keep things fairly simple.
Here is the down stairs kitchen area

    here is the bedroom

Here is the top floor and enchanting area

And the last area, i'm not too sure what to call this room

    Hope you like it.

    Quote from flashfire04

are you gettting an ip like 0.0.0.0:XXXXX? if so, if you are on windows 7, hit the home buttion and search "cmd". run it and type "ipconfig". on the 3rd line down, it will give you ur internal network IP. this is your server ip, it will be something like 192.168.2.x. just add the servver port which will be a 5 digit number that appears in your chat. (in MC) so the final ip you can connect with is 192.168.2._:25565 (the blank space is a dynamic number that can vary between computers, and the :XXXXX will change too. hope this works!

I'm running windows 7 and my friends are on 8, we're all on the same network at my friends house and we still can't connect to each other, we've tried what you suggested before using the direct connect option but that still doesn't work.

Cheers man, I got the idea for this build originally from a painting in a texture pack, there's something kinda meta about that isn't there, but anyway, thanks for the complement.

Are you guys sure you are on the same network? If your not, you won't be able to connect to each other. The 1.6.2 update lan connection is working fine. :)

Yea, were all on the same network, and we have a server that works fine, it's just the lan that doesn't seem to work.
