Bukkit did not die. It was incorporated as Spigot. People were all confused when there was that legal dispute with mojang, but hey we're still here
Also, there is a huge shift in playerbase from English speaking communities to foreign communities.
Maybe that's why you feel that servers are deteriorating in numbers.
Spigot wasn't at the level that Bukkit was at (with plugin support, etc.) when Bukkit died. I think a lot of people got lost in that gap. That describers my situation anyway
I hope the cartographer table will make mapping easier. It's prohibitively impractical to map anything outside your immediate area, and displaying it on a giant wall is interesting but also of limited usefulness, especially since they don't auto-update.
Of course, a minimap/world map (of places you've explored) would be the most ideal...
Screenshot is right at spawn, facing south. You spawn on plains in between a flower forest, ocean with reefs, and mountains and various forests around. There are multiple reefs in the area and they aren't small. The closest mesa might be a haul but I think I saw every biome within 10k blocks. Ocean monuments aren't too far from spawn. My main thing was finding a good reef at spawn with pretty scenery. This be that
The kelp looks too uniform, and you can't even keep it cropped randomly because it grows back too quick. I think there should be a variance in the top height of each plant.
Also, we really need some kind of palm trees for this tropical (coral) update. Maybe you could add some island/Atoll biomes in the warm oceans and put them there. Nothing big, just a way to get that tropical feel without having to craft your own trees everywhere. There's nothing like a palm tree against a setting sun to make you feel warm and fuzzy

Here's a large, ocean-side bamboo jungle for the 1.14 snapshots. It's not at spawn, but you can make a command block teleporter back pretty easily:
Seed:
7134708810747695650
Teleport command:
/execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @p -32676 63 -65664 90 0

Bukkit died, and so went the easy-ish ways to try to stop the rampant cheating. Nobody wants to deal with that mess.
Yes, Spigot or Sponge (or whatever) is doing something similar, but Bukkit had a lot more users I think.

The download link is a hellhole of maliciousness. For shame...
