posted a message on [1.14] [16x] Quandary Reborn Continuation (Last updated June 17, 2019)

Hi all, Cpt_Corn reached out to discuss legality of the original Quandary and we realized it was not officially released under a Creative Commons BY license, despite my intention that it be released as such. I'm back to rectify that oversight so that Quandary can continue to live.

Attached is a Doc file releasing Quandary to CC BY 4.0. You can read more about that here. This is done specifically for others to distribute it and its remixes outside of Minecraft Java's ecosystem.

For reference, the file is located at: https://retribution.games/Quandary.docx

    @ExtraNoise:

I have made the chainmail armor sprites and armor models awhile ago in my pack, Coterie Craft. Would you be interested to include them along with the rest of my armor models that you have currently?

By the way... how did you come up with the seemingly foreign names for the six seasons you have included?

Of course! I would be delighted to use more of your amazing work if you're willing to let me!

The names are derived from the six seasons that an aboriginal tribe in Australia uses. :smile.gif:

I had a LOT of complaints over the brick-style cobblestone in the last version, but already a few requests to bring it back. I may release an alternate pack with the brick-style. Sound good? :smile.gif:

Thanks for the wonderful feedback everyone.

Hey, ExtraNoise. I'm not sure if this was intended, but v3.4 is missing the heart particle when you tame a wolf.

Ahh, good catch! I can't believe I missed that. I'll have it in soon.

The obsidian felt like kind of a copout. Looks like default but dark so you can't see it.

    Glowstone was default :/

I'll change obsidian, but I kind of liked it. :smile.gif: Glowstone is not default, I spent a lot of time editing it. :sad.gif: I'll change that too.

Can you make the wool so there is no noise in them at all. Just plain old solid color?

I really like some noise as a solid color would just not fit at all. Maybe I will make the noise more subtle and add less randomness to it.

Please make gravel and bedrock more varied from each other then they are.
Other than that, this pack is the best pack ever.

Consider it done for 3.6. :smile.gif:

FINALLY. you took your time updating ¬.¬

1.5 was out for six days before the updated Quandary was released. Exactly what would be an appropriate time schedule for you?

To everyone else: Thank you for all the kind words. :smile.gif: Your praise goes a LONG way to keeping me motivated to make updates. Would still love to see more works done in Quandary! Don't hesitate to submit screenshots.

I updated it two hours before you made this post. So... yes?

Okay folks, Quandary has been officially updated. :smile.gif:

Thanks for all the feedback. We'll continue to play with the cobble/sandstone debate. I want to see how 3.4 does and we'll possibly make changes for 3.5

I still haven't gotten around to installing this yet, but I have taken a quick look at the terrain.png, and I've got a couple of questions:

Firstly, what the heck happened to the 2/3 sidegrass? That's half the reason I loved this texture pack, and now it's just gone?
Secondly, would it be possible for you to change the wooden planks texture, to fit the door? The color, as well as the amount of lines, is off. It has always annoyed me, and I was hoping to see a fix for this, once you updated.

And one last thing: It would be nice to see a more brick-styled cobblestone in the pack. You could possibly take a look at bonemouse's Isabella Texture Pack, and get some inspiration.

    1. The 2/3rds will be making a come-back. I need to get everything sorted for getting side-grass to work and I hope to do that before the release this weekend (planned).
    2. Not sure what you mean by this. Make them darker?
    3. I mentioned that I planned to do a brick-styled cobblestone for this release in the post above yours.

Your post comes across as a bit angry. Are you angry? Why are you angry?

    Here's the beta for 1.5 (Quandary 3.4):
    http://www.retributiongames.com/quandar ... ry_3.4.zip

I've taken a TON of community feedback for this release and I'm really happy with it. I'm anxious to see what you guys have to say and thanks for everything so far.

A lot of thanks goes to Bonemouse for his help. I've temporarily stolen his UI from his beautiful Isabella pack, which you can find here:
    viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=262829
(Hope this is okay Bonemouse - I promise to make my own soon!)

I may change the cobblestone to be more brickish. I also need to update the background image for the title screen. The moon texture also needs some tweaking.

If anyone can get me screenshots, I'd be very happy. I havent been able to spot and wolves or any weather (wtf) so if someone can verify they work, I'd be really happy.

    Enjoy!

Biome-specific colors are overwritten by Minecraft, no solution until Notch updates this. As a result, Quandary colors are not retained for the time being.
You just need to put the folliagecolor and grasscolor in the misc folder inside minecraft.jar

Side-grass does not work. Needs a fix by Notch.

There's a mod that fixes that
    viewtopic.php?f=1032&t=183921
ModLoader also has this option, but it's not as customizable.
    viewtopic.php?f=25&t=80246

I really, really, really think you should go back to the original dirt and side grass :/
    Awesome job updating it tho.

I don't want to make my users jump through a bunch of hoops using various side-mods to get things to work "right". The entire point of Quandary is to work with the base game as a very subtle make-over.

With that said, I also mentioned on the site that I'm planning to work on variations of the pack that WILL take advantage of these types of mods -- and other mods that add things to the game -- to allow people to experience Minecraft the way they want.

Also, replacing the foliage files in the terrain folder does nothing. You have to use MCPatcher to get it to work correctly or manually do it.

great job. almost love it. i prefer the default crosshair and cobblestone that looks more brick-like (like what you did with the sandstone). but other than those two dislikes it's a sweet pack.

The crosshair that is in the current pack is the same one that was released with 2.0 (I believe).

Likewise, I have no idea where that brickish cobblestone came from but I plan to stick with the pseudo-default (game-default) textures. I'm even planning on changing the sandstone blocks to a more default looking design, as I feel I'm straying too far from the default textures with those.

rhodox and I are pretty good friends (look I even contributed to Painterly twice!), so I may bug him about setting up a small customizer for various optional blocks like these. To be honest I like the brick look, but I have no idea where that brick in Quandary Reborn came from. It's certainly not mine.

ExtraNoise do you have problems with it if I continue to release my versions of Quandary ?
Of course, in a own Thread ?

Of course, please! Just make sure to include a credit. :smile.gif: I am ever-thankful to everyone who kept parts of Quandary alive over the last few months.

Oh, you guys are talking about side-grass. I thought you were talking about the tops, which is the same from previous versions.

I shortened the side-grass because it looks stupid with two different colors.
