They were wonderful.
Never knowing what changed,
What was added,
What was fixed.
Beautiful.
Last one was only 15 months ago...HEY WAIT...
May I introduce the Seecret Friday Mod. Every Friday, there will be a new mod...which I won't tell you what I added or modified. Just like the Seecret Friday Updates, back in the day!
Notes
=====
Early release this week probably - going on vacation!
Because of this vacation there probably won't be a release next week! Sorry! I'll make sure the next release is awesome!
Rules!
======
1. No using TMI (Too Many Items). You will see any blocks I added and that is unfair.
2. No looking at the terrain.png and/or item.png in the mod folder, if they are there. You would, again, be able to see any blocks or items I added.
That is all I have now!

Note: Very good guesses, guys, with the surface slimes. Unfortunately, that's not it. It is VERY close though! And the things you are noticing (the thing under the tree, etc.) ARE what I did! It's just a little more complicated than that. But GREAT guessing!!!
What it did:
It added a "goo" block, crafted with 4 slimeballs.

Topics with just a link to the .exe file (meaning if you don't have a description) will be DELETED. We’ve noticed many, not all, topics that only post the file, have contained some sort of malware.
When reporting an .exe file:
When you report a post containing this file, please include some evidence that you may have or reasons you think it is harmful and a moderator will look into it as best as we can. The more evidence you provide, the better we can help. (Quote taken from Beltir) -

I didn't mention those as being useless. But honestly, what is the biggest thing that 1.9 pre-release has done? NPCs don't look promising at all. I'm just saying, if they're going to code the game, code the necessary stuff, fix what's broken, add meaningful ****, THEN have at it with all the goofy ****.
Actually, the NPCs DO look promising.
Notch already explained their use (Or was it Jeb? I cant remember.)
The purpose of the NPCs is that they will enable you to trade with them, as well as producing other potential functions (thus, the different TYPES of NPCs).
This isnt a particularly new idea... ever heard of the Millenaire mod? That's a BIG mod, and a well-liked one.... and for good reason.
The NPCs that Mojang is adding seem to be along those lines, albeit a bit simpler (and simpler is not a bad thing here. Millenaire is good but maybe a little too complex in some ways). But it has alot of gameplay potential nonetheless.
It's not "goofy ****". It's things that really, honestly have an intended purpose. I dont think anyone will be able to FULLY judge a given feature like this until said feature is FULLY coded and implemented.
"goofy ****" is stuff more like the cows... but really, that probably took all of 30 minutes to code, and only happened because the guys at Mojang seem to honestly enjoy what they're doing. They just added it in real fast just because they felt like it. It didnt hurt anything, it didnt "slow development", it didnt cause them to "lose focus". It's just a cow with shrooms on. That's it. I think they're amusing, really.
Also, I know people keep going "AGH JUST FIX THE BUGS FIRST THEN ADD STUFF", but in reality, game development DOES NOT work like that. No, seriously, it doesnt. Dealing with bugs isnt as easy as most people think; and no, "but the modders can do it" is not an excuse. The modders are a bazillion forum members with alot of free time, and usually, each modder fixes like ONE or TWO bugs at a time, IF they bother at all. You'd have to install a squillion mods to fix all of the bugs, and then your game would implode.
But seriously, try out any beta for something like an MMO or.... whatever, and you'll see it's the same there. They HAVE to keep going with their design schedule.... despite that new bugs are always popping up. It's just the way it works.
And Mojang ISNT a big dev team, so it's not surprising that bugs take awhile to get fixed. -

Benislav posted a message on Dear Mojang, stop adding pointless thingsYou're right! How DARE Notch and Jeb add fun little things into the game instead of stuff you want?! It's barbaric! It's wrong! DEY TOOK URR MONEEYYY!Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
No. They're having fun and making cool stuff while doing it. I feel I should add to the sarcastic portion of this post that you're right about how mooshrooms are pointless but we need new ores. You suggest they fix endermen, add ores, and add mobs that are "scary as hell". Seriously? Minecraft isn't a horror game. They added some unique stuff to the game. Naturally, because it's not what you wanted, you had to throw a fit on the forums. Did you ever stop to consider that some people might like the new additions? Probably not, because you're the most important customer.
No, I didn't think the update was the greatest addition to Minecraft. However, it's not even out yet, and it did add some cool stuff to the game. Maybe you don't like it, but someone does. And we don't NEED new ores. -

How in the world will those cows be of use? Why not add some useful stuff like a new ore or something that would be actually useful.
It's like putting the icing on the cake while it's still in the oven.
Because it's the devs actually having a little FUN.
Frankly, I think that's a GOOD thing. More developers could learn to do that. It might produce better products at the end, if the devs really ENJOY what they're doing. This sort of design is why Minecraft got big in the FIRST place.
Mooshrooms are just a funny, goofy little bonus that probably took Notch/whoever all of 30 minutes to code, if that. They dont NEED to have a big purpose. Yet maybe they will later, who knows?
As for everything ELSE? The blaze rods, the ghast tears, enderpearls, NPCs? THEIR existence makes sense; they're currently unfinished code, but with the INTENT of being useful in an upcoming update. THis is how game development works. -

renadi posted a message on Dear Mojang, stop adding pointless thingswhat they are working on is exactly the foundations, it's just foundations of things they haven't explained to you, I could understand why, you don't seem like you'd be that quick to understand, what they're doing now is building the bricks before the house is done, and putting the ones on the bottom in place, what you want is them to start at the roof.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion -
