Been having this same problem lately as well. I can tell you that in 1.2.5 skins still load properly, and I can tell you that they aren't in the snapshots. 1.3 I'm not sure, don't have that version atm. Maybe Mojang forgot to update that part of the code?
Yeah, no one else has made a thread about them yet. So here we are.
There is a block in the recent snapshots that, when powered with redstone, will activate a console command you enter into the block. It has three custom targeting configurations: nearest player, all players, random player.
My mind has gone wild with ideas so far.
I've created button transportation hubs, day/night switches, deadly traps, harmless pranks, you name it. It seriously is the coolest redstone contraption to date, in my opinion.
Try it yourselves. As of right now, you can only get it thru cheats; the block ID is 137.
Yeah, there is definitely no clear gaping hole in the ground, or wooden square, or cobblestone square, or cobblestone line, or any other structure in that region prior to me making the map.
4. ...wait. The whole map is instantly filled? That is not my experience. Is this a zoomed out map? as it is now when you craft a map it is zoomed into level 1, and you can zoom it out to level 5 (previous maps were all zoomed to level 4). Are you certain that the zoomed map isn't just the size of the traditional exploration radius?
In hindsight, this may have been because I was in creative mode.
EDIT: Neither my house, the giant hole in the ground, the bridge, or the enchanting library are visible on the map. Are you entirely sure maps updated in previous versions?
Before the update, I understood that the center point of a map was the exact location it was crafted in, and you had to walk all about to map out the area. Once you mapped it, it stayed that way, and the map didn't update to show the new terrain.
After the update, you can choose where the center point of the map is, and the entire map is instantly filled when you do so. Terrain does update as it is changed.
I'm fairly certain all of that ^ is true. I asked the forums for a second opinion. Sorry if my OP was not clear.
It seems to me that maps have been made alot better in the snapshots. Not just the new way maps are started where and when you choose, but it appears that maps show what the landscape appears as now, instead of how the landscape was generated before the updates. Or, at least I think that's how it was.
After all of the scare that some redstone machines involving pistons would break with this change, I've yet to see a machine reported that no longer works.
No one here has heard of emergent gameplay apparently.
Hey guys, remember rocket jumping in Quake? Yeah, that was originally a bug. Should we have fixed it simply because it was a bug? No.
I agree. Bugs that bring useful gameplay mechanics should stay.
And I hate that people are saying, "eliminate useful bugs because they are bugs". I mean, if the useful features weren't bugs, you'd want to keep them. So the fact that they are bugs shouldn't change that.
The problem with that is that Skeletons aren't arthropods.
I agree with cadaver. It's not like this makes the diamond sword any less useful at all. It's part of the gamble in the already totally random enchant system.
YOU may not care about lag and game crashes, but most of us DO.
The point of this topic has apparently sailed right over your head.
On topic: If the piston alteration has ruined ANY redstone machines, than it's an immediate NO in my mind. Especially considering someone has already made another sand/gravel generator to work around the piston change.
If the piston alteration has literally left ALL redstone contraptions to peace, than I'm fine with it.

Apologies, forgot to turn HUD off.

Does this mean clocks now work upon exiting/re-entering a save file?

First actual mistake was rapid clicking instead of holding down the mouse.

All we get is a release candidate before the 1.3 update.
