Actually you don't need to answer my questions (You can have your last word or whatever makes you feel validated). I'm content with knowing that your inability will prevent your server from growing in the long run, and it saves me the effort.

Good luck on your false advertising though.

From the facts stated you're just an inexperienced admin that's more concerned about looking good than creating a fair player experience; this coming from someone who's been staff or influential on multiple large servers and communities.

"...not in your circle of friends..."
FYI three of us were new that night and didn't know everyone. We (At least speaking for myself) were just looking for a server to settle down in to get back into Minecraft with balanced and fair pvp mechanics. I thought everything was fine and dandy until this war countdown was going on and then we were getting mobbed on in our own protected zones.

You've still failed to throw out anything but baseless platitudes. If you're going to keep up with the drivel then at least have the intelligence to outline the details of the infractions. You can act professional all you want, but it's pretty damn obvious that it's useless rhetoric when you can't organize your thoughts to create an outlined defense of your position that actually speaks to any of the abuse we've specifically defined.
What rules did we break. We've already pointed out what you've done and you haven't said an iota about it. You use words to convey information not to hear yourself talk.

"...proved to be the type of player that only wants to grief and harass others."
So far what I've done since joining the server:
-Look around the Teragarde and help build a little bit and give tips on building.
-Killed some enemies that were dancing in our territory.
-Suddenly get wrecked when our town protections are removed by the admin.
Sounds a lot like harassment and griefing to me. So sorry for doing that to your players.

Your playerbase is grateful because a majority of the active playerbase outside belongs to your town or hasn't irritated your ego (And it's amusing how you try to make it sound larger than it is). Making a large, inclusive, aesthetically pleasing town is harmful when it infringes on the pride of the admin's I suppose.

I guess it's not breaking the rules when you make the rules and can change them whenever you want.
    You're a joke.

Just in case you have trouble comprehending and responding to that wall, here's a nice outline for you:
    1. What rules did we break.
    2. Who did we harass.
    3. Why did you enable war without warning when historically 3x that player count wasn't enough.
    4. Why did you disable the arena during the war.

    They're not hard questions.

    What a weak response.
"You babies can't handle it when the tables get turned on you."

Sorry but we used our brains to raid and kill you within the rules, and there's no way of us bending the rules because we don't have the powers to do so. All I see here is a whiny admin that's terrible at his own game so he has to resort to cheating to feel good about himself.

It's no wonder you'd do that to a town that looks a whole lot better with players that are a whole lot better. It must feel terrible when your own town on your own server is so terrible (See: 3 people with *regular* diamond enchanted armor, weapons, horse, and bows get killed by a guy with leather and a bow. But the answer to that is to pull out an Sharpness X Swords and Power X Bows I guess.)

Interesting that you try to ignore the accusations of your abuse by throwing out general insults.
Servers with terrible admins are so sad. It's no wonder that good servers usually create measure so that emotionally weak mods/admins can't abuse commands when they get butthurt.

Don't play on this server if you plan on making anything cool or being good at PvP (Chances are the admin will get jealous and take it over with admin commands).
7+ players can attest to this admin abuse. There are better servers to play on.

Past Minecraft Experience [When did you get it? What do you like to do?]: I Bought Minecraft in Alpha, joined a server immediately, and after making friends/socializing received Minimod->Ubermod (Top rank) and started a few mega projects (Back in Alpha this was one of the top 5 survival servers). Later I joined Buxville (The server Notch tweeted about way back) and made friends with many influential and active players. Nowadays I build for the server(s) of an old player from the first server in alpha, or play sparingly with various friends I've made through minecraft here and there. The biggest thing I like to do is build and mess around with redstone.

I don't think I'll be able to play as much as I did (~8 hours a day in my early highschool years) because of school and ambitions, but if I can find a fun committed community then I wouldn't mind setting aside a decent chunk of time to have fun with it, because I still do love Minecraft. It's just extremely hard to find the right people with the right time to enjoy it with.

    Beat me to it.

Haven't followed this past the first 10-20 pages, but even if there is an infinite regression problem, it's still possible to make a system like this much more efficient.
I really haven't thought about it all that much but I'd like to do some experiments on it.

    The Paradox of Moar

One will always be in need of Moar. One will also be in need of Moar Moar. However, one cannot desire Moar Moar without first being in possession of Moar. One would not desire to gain Moar Moar if they already had Moar, resulting in the fact that Moar is nothing. There will always be need for Moar Moar, because we already have Moar and Moar will always be obtained or lost regardless of the amount of Moar in possession. Moar will always be needed of Moar Moar for the amount of Moar to get Moar Moar.
There will always be need for Moar.
    Always Moar.
    Always.

    Hire this man.

By the way Az, with armor being nerfed, the gap between defense and offense is even greater. Do you have anyone you could contact about the mod you told me about?

I've been trying to think of other solutions as well.

posted a message on You know what would be an actually helpful update to this game?
You are given the option not to update your client.
Mojang isn't responsible to make its software compatible with a 3rd party program.

That's it. It doesn't matter how easy it would be, or how successful 3rd party programs are. Those are irrelevent. If Mojang doesn't want to spend extra time to make 3rd party programs work, then they don't have to. Any arguments about how 3rd party progams are vital to the success of a server are irrelevent.

Also, just because they have the ability to do something doesn't create a requirement for them.

Mojang is a company, not your mother.

Wouldn't it be simpler to be able to connect one version older? So a 1.1 client can still connect to a 1.0 server for example.

No. What happens when I place a ladder? 1.0 and 1.1 react differently.

Fact: Installing the update to the client breaks your ability to connect to most multiplayer servers for up to a month at a time.

Fact: It takes a small amount of time for any competent computer user to downgrade.
It doesn't "break your ability," it stalls you one or two minutes to downgrade.
(As a side note, you technically can still connect to the server, you're just kicked out)

You clearly have no idea what your talking about.
I have yet to see one logical argument against this suggestion so far, all I have seen are white knight wanabees who know nothing about programming and what is/isn't possible.
    WTF are you smoking dude?
And thinking this would take up enormous room is retarded logic

I'm glad this has contributed to facilitating a thoughtful and civil discussion on this topic.

    More recently?
When I joined here that was how things were, I was here for about 10 or so months before it went down o.o
But um, I didn't think that's what was meany by "the good old days" always thought that it just referenced to when there were more people on actively.

Cricket's post covers this pretty well.
And it DOES refer to when there were more people on actively. Before PvP, 31/30 was normal, and people were always trying to get in.

    Also:

That was your own fault. You constantly kept finding problems where there were none. The mod team had everything under control. You just never put enough faith in us to allow us the tools we needed to deal with the issues at hand. So you always had to do the dirty work.

What exactly were the problems that kept coming up?
My opinion is if you bring back the old environment while still giving PvP areas (with incentive to venture or live there), everyone will be happy. As for upkeep, I can't remember what were the issues back then, but I thought the tools we had were pretty solid until we started losing them (more to an overflow of premature promotions, abuse of power, and then loss of the power altogether).

    @Chip
I know that's what it said after he changed my sign. Destroying instead of replacing it with what you wrote would be doing us a favor.

That's what made this server work?
    The PvP and the grief?

That phase of the server was only more recently. Before that, PvP and griefing were not allowed, and the server was usually full (30+) and much more popular. That's usually what we mean when we reference "the good old days."

However Azrooh doesn't want to be a cookie cutter server (I can respect that), so he's decided to keep it this way (and fix old problems like x-raying). Hopefully it will work much better (though I / we're looking for a plugin to balance out the effort of defense vs the effort of offense).

    Edit:
The immaturity of some members never ceases to amaze me:

Hey guys, Azrooh has put the server back up.

    98.168.216.114

He will be updating everything soon, right now it is just vanilla, but he's getting bukkit worked out for anti-xray and spawn protection plugins. We want to do it like the old days, bare minimum plugins most of the time.

    98.168.216.114

According to Az, "old days" isn't as old as most of us are hoping for. It's still the PvP with ability to grief.
