Sounds amazing, but there's something missing:
- A crafting recipe.
Though I don't know what it would be. Anyone got ideas for that?

Regular_Hexahedron posted a message on Battery Blocks - A New Mobile Power Source For The Redstone UpdateI've always wanted a mobile power source, and the upcoming redstone update gave me a good idea.Posted in: Suggestions
The Battery Block
The battery block is a block capable of acting like a power source. By itself it does nothing. It's just an inert block.
When it receives a redstone charge, it permanently becomes powered and generates power at the same level as the power it received. For example, if it is touched by a piece of restone wire powered at level 8, the battery block from then on will distribute level 8 power to surrounding wire.
A charged battery block cannot be made weaker, but its signal can be intensified by exposing it to a higher charge. For example, a battery block generating power 8 exposed to power level 10 would be permanently boosted to power level 10.
Battery blocks can be moved around with pistons, and maintain their charge after being moved.
You would be able to reset the battery block two ways. One is to break it. This erases the charge and is unpowered when placed again. There would also be the automatable method of exposing it to water. If a battery blocks touches water, it becomes unpowered.
This means that you can use piston systems to automatically power and unpower battery blocks, and change their power level up and down. And in addition to serving as a mobile multi-level power source, it's also a handy water detector.
Battery Blocks are also a handy way of recording data. For example, you could have a variety of inputs with different power levels. After the battery block is charged have it isolated so it can't be affected. Then you can see which input the battery received a message from first, based on the signal strength it generates. -

Edit: @IVCraft: My last signature was poking fun at Ms_Britten, the former M&M admin (and my girlfriend). It annoyed her so I thought I would change it. -

AramilTheElf posted a message on Should younger people influence in politics?I think they should have influence but not power. While some may say influence is power, and I may agree with them in that, I mean the literal definition in this case. Youth should not have the right to vote - their brains are not fully developed yet, and many are ignorant and apathetic. This is the case for many adults as well, but it is more so in youth.Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science
However, they should have influence. Youth should not be ignored simply because they are youth. I would have no problem with youth attempting to lobby for a cause, or debate with politicians. If a youth has ideas that a politician cannot refute, the politician is not correct simply because his opponent is a youth. Arguments such as "you'll understand when you're older", "You're too young to understand", and the like only serve as an ad hominem to demean an opponent, and are not a way to end a debate. -

The_Pastmaster posted a message on The Pessimistic Attitude Towards the Human Race.Killing mentally challenged people for being that way. Ummm... I would have to say no. Besides the morally and ethically dubious action in the act itself I'm gonna bring up a few things:Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science
First off: "They leech off society."
This is more or less untrue. Sure there are some that do but plenty of other don't. Sure they're probably not going to become master chefs, game show hosts or anything but they MIGHT. And I know from the centre near here that most of them hold steady jobs and provide a service, though sometimes menial. Most of them don't want to leech off of the society they live in (If they can understand the concept naturally) and with some assistance they can be perfectly functioning members of that society.
Second: "They provide no value"
This is completely untrue. Mentally challenged individuals provides a lot of value. They show that even people with severe disabilities can succeed at things that are difficult. Take the Paraolympics for a perfect example of this. Men and women from around the world with handicaps of all sorts competing on equal terms, providing moral boosts and bursts of inspiration to countless thousands.
Not good enough? What about the scientific value then? The study of disabilities, physical and psychological further technology and medical science by leagues. Medications, tools, design, knowledge of the mystery that is the human body and the human mind.
Thirdly: The procreation bit.
Note that far from all mental and physical handicaps are hereditary. Many such couples have healthy children that are in sync with the norm of our biological structure.
Aaand that's pretty much everything I have on the subject. -

We could all be much better off if stupid ignorant and useless people just were killed off. Or at least made to not have kids, if killing them is too inhumane for you...

Badprenup posted a message on Change Minecraft first stepsPosted in: Suggestions
That isn't a wishlist. His suggestion is to add some of the features from the Xbox version that help gameplay (for some people) into the PC version. He doesn't have to make a separate suggestion for each feature, provided they are all about a single small thing. And before you think about saying Achievements are not for learning about the game, that's why Notch added them to MC in the first place. He said so himself (it's on the wiki's Achievement page).
As for the other things you said:- Lots of people didn't know they needed a pick to obtain Stone or ore when they first started. And some people actually do have problems right off the bat not knowing they can break blocks. I don't know how old you are but you need to remember that this game is intended for everyone, including younger children.
- Which is why it was said you can turn them off. I don't usually use "optional" as a reason to defend a suggestion, but it makes perfect sense here. Lots of younger players or new players would keep these on, and if they don't need to use them anymore, they can turn them off.
- As I said, that's why they were added in the first place. It's also why on PC you have to do the easier ones like opening inventory before you can do the harder ones. You can do them in any order on Xbox, but you can also look them up in the Xbox Blade system to learn how to do them, just like you can on PC (provided you have the prerequisite). Also, YOU don't pay attention to achievements. I don't either but a lot of people do. Projecting your opinion on the masses isn't going to help you in a discussion.
- He was giving points on why they should be added. The fact it wouldn't take a lot of time or resources to do so is a point.
- Because YOU think they shouldn't. As I said, projecting your opinions on others will get you nowhere.

Coral posted a message on Boat Overhaul! Now with 80% moar boats!I feel the boats in minecraft are very useless at the moment, but they have the potential to be fun, and a decent mode of transportation. Discussion from yourself can help this suggestion become considered and soon we can have decent boats, capable of better speed, and of course, handling.Posted in: Suggestions
Speed - While the boats in Minecraft do amount to a decent speed after awhile, I feel the boats are in need of faster acceleration.
Durability - Im not 100% sure if it has been done already, but boats should not break from being on open water, I can see the balance and realism of crashing into the shore; but if boats handled better, the durability would not be as much of an issue.
Handling - The boats definetly need tighter handling in my opinion, they need to turn better to navigate narrow rivers.
Different Types of Boats - Birch boats, jungle wood boats, oak boats, and pine boats should all be added to Minecraft, each carrying different traits.
Oak - Standard
Birch - Lightweight, greater speed
Jungle - Crafted better, greater handling
Pine - Tough pine wood, most durable. - To post a comment, please login.

I'll address these statements one at a time.
First, careful with the ALWAYS, Hemp. I follow elections in my area and never once have I seen a candidate misrepresent himself. I also follow the presidential elections and yes, I have seen presidents change their minds on issues. The reasons for it are not really that important, but they, in almost all cases, stick to the virtues that they were elected for. Take Obama, for example. He did pass the health care reform he originally sought, pulled most of our troops out of war, gave a stimulus package, and killed Osama Bin Laden. You're probably going to bring up SOPA, but he never even mentioned internet censorship during any of the debates, and while I disagree with the bill, it wasn't a broken promise.
He hasn't gotten everything he promised done, but that's part of the reason he wants a second term.
Secondly, yes, I've seen peaceful protests. The police didn't even show up, and they did know about it. The only reason the rumor of widespread police brutality exists is because no one ever publicizes the uneventful protests where nothing like that happens. Most of the Occupy protests, for example, were quite peaceful. The police even told them to go off because they were illegally camped. Some didn't go at first, and they didn't have their "have their eyes pried open then a Q-tip". You realize that police are people too, with ethics and morals? Yes, some abuse the power, but I've met a few police and they didn't seem too much like hair-trigger maniacs.
And in all but four cases, the electoral college has gone with the vote of the majority. Four. Not most.
Here's a source to confirm
The other presidents mentioned were elected against the overall majority, but that was because of the system, not the people of the electoral college. We can change that, but it is not the huge majority you seem to think that presidents are elected on the basis of.
Last, have you seen Libya recently? Or pick another country the US has become involved in. The atrocities committed by the government in these countries are not even on the same level as a guy getting pepper spray in his eyes, or having to deal with a hot pavement. I really suggest you actually research this stuff before acquiring that kind of an opinion. We're talking about a government commonly gunning down it's own people for protesting. Killing them. Ghaddafi even said he would squash them like cockroaches, and that's about when we decided to get involved. I'm not going to supply a source because any random googling of it will come up with sufficient results.
As for the right to revolt, a revolt usually is violent, and most people in the country right now would not want the current system to topple. When the right to revolt is given in the Constitution, they don't mean as soon as a couple hundred people gather in a square with guns the current government will cease. The constitution means that as a right, but that right to revolt is hard to succeed at.

"As a result, to this day its ingredients remain a matter of much speculation and debate, with proposals including naphtha, quicklime, sulphur, and niter." I don't see any oil mentioned in the article, which leads me to believe there wasn't any oil.

I don't really have a big preference to this idea, but I do think that it would be better if the water was very temporary, not a permanent source block that is created.
