I like having the colors monotone. I don't do these for other people, just for my enjoyment. :\ Also, my smudging ****ing sucks. It's not good. :ohmy.gif:

There's a difference between monotone and washed out colors. If you wanted monotone, maybe gradient maps (don't know if they call it that in GIMP, never used it) would've been better.

And it's better than mine :tongue.gif:

The series got better with the new animator guy they hired. That dude (Monty Oum) also made Haloid and the Dead Fantasy series. I loved Haloid :biggrin.gif:

The thing that kills the tag is how the colors are so washed out. Kills it completely. The bar thing on the bottom that you set to overlay or something is pretty odd as well. The text should be on the right side of the focal instead of the left; too much empty space otherwise.

Nice smudging though. Wish you would've done something special though.

You can. The only thing you need to do when you download Steam on the other laptop is do a confirmation test that you're the same person by using a 4 character key they send to your email you used to register a Steam account.

Use http://planetrenders.net for all of your render needs. They'll have something you'll like most of the time.

DeviantArt has tons of nice brushes and c4ds.

Stock you can get from sites like http://www.sxc.hu/ or something. Some people redistribute stock packs that you can snag and find some goodies.

An excellent tutorial would be this one. Shows you the basics of composition, flow, lighting, colors, pretty much a little of everything.

I mean, signatures are, in the end, a form of art. Like all forms of art, the only thing someone can really teach you is the technique, and then it's up to you to throw your own style and twist on it.

Don't be afraid to cut out some of the render out. When you scale them that small, the details are hard to notice. Then again, the forum limits on sigs are stupid, so I guess you can't really do anything about that other than be more picky about renders.

I believe that tutorial tells you to use grunge brushes, so yeah. I don't see any. You can find most of the resources you'll ever use on DeviantArt under 'Application Resources'.

The background is overblurred; not sure what you did to do that.

The blue glow only detracts from the 'blending'. Blending is one of the key parts to the composition of a sig. I know what you were trying to do there though, it just doesn't work.

The text doesn't work for me this time. The outline shouldn't be there, and orange doesn't fit in. The main colors are tan and white. The font isn't the best as well.

A problem, I think, is that you're working with vanilla everything. You look like you're using Windows preloaded fonts, have no brushes, etc.

By the way, what program do you use?

That's a solid attempt at that tutorial. In general terms, it's poor (to put it more lightly than those above).

The problem with sigtutorials is that they throw a bunch of easy tutorials at you, but none of them explain the basics of sigs.

To improve the latest one you posted, you'll need to learn the rule of thirds and master it. It dictates placement. Here, you chose to put it at the far left. This leaves a lot of empty space, which is bad. The ideal placement for most focals is a little left/right of the very center of the tag. Your text should be close to the focal, but not detracting.

You did a good job of text in regards to the render; it isn't detracting on its own part, and you grasp the concept of text that fits in with the focal.

I don't know what the big dark blob is to the right of the render, but it makes the sig look worse. Get rid of it if you can.

Again, the problem with sigtutorials is that they don't offer every basic concept signature-makers need to know. I recommend you join a decent graphics community. Most of them offer resources, tutorials, and some kind of school or learning program.

Keep it up, you'll be better in no time :smile.gif: It took me exactly one tutorial to go from
    this to this.
