    Referred by AslanTheLion :)

    OOC:

What’s your Minecraft Account Name?: DerpyPoint

    How old are you?: 15+

Have you read and agreed to the rules?: Yes, I have and I agree overall.

What’s the rule you agree with the most?: Rule #2. Every human has the capacity for prejudices hardwired into their brain so it is necessary that characters that are human can have them which makes Atticia more realistic when the society isn’t in a Utopian state.

Are there any rule(s) that confuse you or don’t make sense?: Rule #12. I think it could be more elaborate especially when some players IRL are adept in PvP, others are not which could become an unfair advantage.

What is roleplaying?: Roleplaying is a form of artistic expression just like writing, drama and music. One could assume upon hearing the basic features of roleplay that it is a category of drama but roleplayers do not act out characters prescribed to them, let alone do so in a predetermined plot. Instead, roleplayers create a character of their own relating to a setting they have been given and without a script, act out their character as if they were in a play as they go meeting around other characters and interacting with the setting. The traditional format of roleplay was pen-and-paper on a table but since then it has in its strict interpretation evolved to adapt to bulletin boards (and in turn play-by-post forums), live action and servers like this.

What is metagaming?: Where your character does something that only you yourself know from outside the RP. For example, finding a secret base intentionally after seeing an OOC tip-off.

What is powergaming?: Where against all odds, your character demonstrates either unusual acquisition and mastery of new skills that you can use to your advantage, or using your own aptitude to give your character a boost in his RP actions and decisions.

    IC:

    Character’s name: Cilio Werner

    Character’s gender: Male

    Character’s age: 20

Biography (Remember to make sure it makes sense with the lore, go for at least two paragraphs): Born and raised in a cave on hilly highlands, the community around him originally settled there as Exiles to quickly quarantine themselves off the Plague turning them into a member of the endless Scorched horde. His father – his only family member – was tasked to collect rarities throughout the land, thinking that they could attract them to better tidings through a trade with other wandering surviving Exiles leading them to perhaps a safe haven. Cilio constantly wondered on what could be behind all these precious items that make them so valuable and appealing for a safety trade. Eventually, Father found an extremely aged yet slightly legible book titled, History In 100 Objects. Cilio was surprised the extent of how old whatever items Father collected and begged his father to keep more books found to shed light on the stories behind these items that told the story of civilisations and peoples long past The Burning.

Most of the books were very rotted through, bug-infested and risk disintegrating if Cilio left them to their own devices over a few days. He went to the Chronicler for advice on preserving books, which then she knew of his interest in learning about the world’s past for it in itself is extremely mysterious where the world seemingly mostly began after the Burning; human lifestyles before was almost vanished without a trace. They sorted out Father’s hauls and studied about their ancestors when they were probably not even living like Exiles.

One of the times Cilio received a new set of old items was not by Father’s down and dirty scavenging, but a lone black sword-wielding man offering them in a peculiarly more pristine condition with a trade. It interested him on why this man, “The Retriever” as he refers himself could possess better quality items. With more detail not worn off by dirt and dust, he really knew for sure something had preceded them as Exiles for hundreds of generations; this world now was almost a millennia ahead, not just beginning.

One day, several tremors struck the highlands around them and lead to the hills breaking down considerably. A sizable group of Scorched broke through the flattened land and Cilio’s group barely had time to escape. He knew he had to leave those precious mines of historical information behind, but Father remained adamant in retrieving them, costing his life among others who were unlucky to get either mauled or infected by the Scorched. In the end, only a few including him and the Chronicler survived and there he saw it. Descending men clad in heavy armour to do the unthinkable: fight off the Scorched rather violently but effectively. In the end of the spectacle/bloodbath the men swiftly transferred them to several airships to what would be later known as Atticia, separating him and the Chronicler. Despite their separate ways and losing Father and his home, he knows that that and the Pristine Set of Items went to show how important he must get to the bottom of artifacts like this even if the Scorched gets in his way. Perhaps Atticia has some useful hints despite its airborne nature...

Personality Traits: Cilio knows everything that happens in the world has a cause; he would never believe in things happening because it’s “like that” or “popped out from nothing.” He is very observant to details around him suggesting something, but once he sees an apparently superfluous detail he would became quite focused on it, ignoring everything else.

Strengths/Talents: As mentioned, Cilio is observant on small details. He enjoys keeping track and organising of historical and milestone items or just noteworthy records in general, showing some substantial preserving skills to keep them intact for a long period of time. He is also dedicated in his goal even if some deems it impractical and useless.

Weaknesses/Inabilities: Cilio values what he sees as some key to the past greatly, putting him in a foul mood upon any loss of such which could be a setback. Cilio does seldom go scavenging with Father to acquire some rudimentary weapon skills but knows not how to use perhaps a gun with even some finesse.

Appearance (How he looks+Height and Weight, add a screenshot of your skin if you can): Cilio has a pale beige skin with chestnut brown hair and eyes, standing 175 cm tall (5’8”) and weighing 60 kgs owing to his lack of athletic experience. He wears a pocketed brown vest over an off-white shirt with a pair of worn down matching brown shorts.

posted a message on 1.8 | The Last Ark | A Server Based on Exploration and Discovery l A New Role playing Experience l Fully Launched and Rocking!

Hmm...I will try to catch any one or two players that happen to be around despite my timezone.

    OOC:

    In game name: DerpyPoint

    Timezone: GMT+8

    Age: 15+

What role-playing experience do you have?: I have RPed in Elantria (fantasy) and Year 2065 (post-apocalypse—like this!), the latter which I RPed more in. “Don’t forget your old shipmates!” I’d say to any RPer I met over those two servers that I re-encounter here.

Why did you choose us?: I like to seek out RP servers with a certain twist to the usual fare (last time I checked, fantasy) and even if Year 2065 was of the same genre The Last Ark has wonderful divergence that paves way to more different RP opportunities which I’d like to try. Especially that mystery surrounding that sea level rise because it doesn’t look like that even if the ice caps completely melted.

Skype Name (Optional for Group Chat): N/A, so I hope you have a Global Channel!

    IC:

    Name: Ferdinand “Dars” ((Mononymy intentional!))

    Age: 29

    Gender: Male

Ethnicity: Vondronosien (collective term for Merinans of archipelagic descent, e.g. from Seychelles, Maldives, Phillippines etc.)

Place of Birth: Merina, a small island Southeast of what remains of Africa. ((Sharp eyes on the map!)) Affectionately termed “‘Rina” by inhabitants.

Defining characteristics and physical appearance: In terms of form, his lanky composition and relatively-dwarven, 165 cm (5’5”) stature makes him awkward to line him up with his fellow towering residents in Defiance. However, he has a slightly defined musculature with a brownish, toffee colour coating his body. His wardrobe as a Defiance resident is simple: a textured woven taupe grey button-up shirt that he always lets loose and a pair of knee-length white chino-analogue shorts with pockets for each leg. On his head adorns a semi-frazzled bunch of black hair where after a dip of water he always pulls the fringes forwards. Below, willfulness is plastered on his face; his dark brown eyes and thick eyebrows firmly and dutifully observing what he sees unless when he feels spaced-out where they lose focus and turn glassy.

    Strengths and Weaknesses:

Strengths - Teach Dars what’s the “fastest” way and he’ll listen very intently as his brain runs on a constant Turbo mode whenever possible; he simply cannot take too long for things to happen when there’s a shorter and hence more convenient way to do them. While Dars is not the person who approaches you randomly, greets and smalltalks once he sees you, forcing him in a situation to talk leads to a stable conversation and in teamwork contexts, some decent synergy.

With his hobby of freediving, Dars knows how to conserve his energy in the water and constantly keep himself afloat around the deep sea for long underwater visits. Complimentary with it is some rudimentary orienteering skills to present lost at sea scenarios, which had traumatised him when it almost happened once. He also learned a number of defensive skills descended from the pre-Rise martial arts which makes up for his lack of proficiency in weaponry combat despite knowing in theory how to use perhaps a gun.

Weaknesses - Dars’ lust for rapidness leads him to impatience even in normal situations and he constantly keeps himself occupied even in his cabin room where muttering and clattering is often heard. One could mistake him for being slightly cuckoo had they not know him well. He feels a slight lack of confidence with having to interact with all the unfamiliar non-Merinans on board but he understands he has to carry on his mission to impart knowledge of the world to the dwellers of Merina and vice versa.

Looking into and not fully submerging in gleaming water for a short while causes Dars to become lucid and wonder on things aloud. As mentioned he is also inept in actual weaponry combat; the thoughts of wielding a potentially life-taking weapon make him cringe a little.

Does your character own property on the ship? If so, what kind: Personally, Dars keeps a pair of swimming goggles, a slightly bulky transceiver between him and Merina, a collection of spiritual texts and mantras written on sisal paper bound together into a book and a small locked chest containing what could lead to his ancestral land. He has trouble unlocking it even though the unlocking method “was obvious”. As part of the plan of diplomacy to re-introduce Merinan knowledge thought to be lost around the world as Defiance goes, he also has a pocket encylcopaedia/scrapbook detailing about a wide range of topics relating to islands from the East.

Background Story (At least two quality paragraphs): Dars was born in the New Year of 2051, near the Midwife’s Hut by the coast of Merina, where the half moon was just rising. Before the Rise of 2020, the Island-cum-Commune of Merina was once Central Madagascar, where the highland-dwelling Merina people lives, hence the namesake. The Government of Madagascar, once aware of the rapid increase in sea levels negotiated an immigration deal with other island nations around it and the Pacific with a 100% chance of submerging and it was just their luck that the highlands were spared. Dars’ grandparents however were very tight-lipped about which island nation they were from, as if it was a stigma, a contributor to the global instability. With these immigrations, Merina was a diverse community of former islanders from the Eastern hemisphere and a goldmine for demonstrating how was it to live in an island whereas other areas in the World were former continents.

Living by the seaside, Dars always wondered what was beyond his homeland that was the small island of Merina. At the Mutual Marketplace, he saw interesting faces of people light in skin and hair and those mentioning some thriving community named Greenland very far up North from here. Dars swam around with the sea often, thinking naively that he could somehow swim North, he would reach this Greenland and find an opportunity to bring vast wealth to his family and fellow Merinans. Unfortunately, this left him stranded despite him treading the water for safety until he was found and returned by fisherman. Upset he was on such a distance after he overheard from market chatter. Why is everything so apart?

Dars’ father, detecting his curiosity took him for a boat trip to the East of Merina and let him swim with goggles on to observe what was below. He was extremely shocked to see ruins of an airport and the surrounding city a good ten or so metres below, which his father pointed out used to be possibly the most convenient way to get there with a flying boat (an aeroplane) than “just swimming”. At this time, with no planes and no airports they’d have to manufacture a long-lasting, long-supplying boat to travel to this Greenland which Merina lacks the resources to build. Those that did made trips and back were trading mostly with “violent villages” of larger islands, unsafe for a growing boy like him. Despite these, the thought of boats, aquatic or flying travelling to other places of the world intrigued and haunted his mind for the following years to come.

Over the years, Dars came to learn his freediving skills so he could discover more of the ruins of submerged land, formerly Madagascar and Africa proper. He would still wonder where was he from and longed for travelling to Greenland.

One day, the leader of Merina arranged for a meeting of all Merinans at Central, announcing a two-way knowledge trade between the Western Hemisphere and Merina representing the “lost” knowledge from the Eastern Hemisphere (Ah, he thought, if only the Chinese were more open-minded) and out of lottery, drew Dars. Dars knew his longstanding dream was finally about to realise but doubted his safety and skills. Dars was told he would be in safe hands should he have common sense or let himself be taught. The Leader arranged the Defiance as a medium for him to travel to Western lands; the “detours” serve as free time for him to prepare himself for incoming dangers in this trade. Receiving his father’s Book of Spirit and his grandfather’s Box as parting gifts, he was admitted to Defiance on a round trip around the world to transmit both ways of hitherto blocked-off knowledge.

Rp Scenario (Two paragraphs, any scenario you'd like)

“Mama, I’m off to the sea, yeah!” Dars, wearing only his shorts hollered back at his small cottage that was his home. He needed to think about this Greenland, some successful place thousands of kilo-m’s away from Merina. It must be big, for a start.

Just as he began to descend into the cyan liquid, careful to only step on the gravel, he saw a boat with a large etching saying, “S.R.” His father was trying his luck at fishing, when his normal job was to inspect around the Mutual Market for any signs of misconduct. Dars quickly swam towards the boat without even donning his goggles.

“Oh, Ferdinand, Ferdinand!” his father said as he saw Dars knocking on the boat. Dars scowled swiftly at the mention of that name but smiled. After all, only his father could say it without him getting riled and engaging in a half-baked fight. Dars gripped the boat for the sake of not capsizing it.

“I see you’re expecting me too,” he said. “About that big rectangular field of flat rocks? You made me have some weird dreams too!”

His father laughed. “What would you dream of with that and flying boats, which they call airplanes?”

“I haven’t seen such a boat yet! I don’t think it’s possible, but I was on one of our small wooden boats when suddenly,” Dars began with a fast pace. He widened his eyes. “the oars at the side kept flapping even though we were grounded!” Dars shuddered if any boat had secret features like that.

“Actually, they’re made of metal and look more like bats,” his father said. “What happened next?” Dars blinked at his father’s description of a “real” floating boat. “Tell me, tell me!”

Dars snapped back. “I was on blue sky for a while, and the boat zipped me like a meteor to...somewhere, and below I saw a field, all green, had some periwinkles swaying.”

“Ah...so serene, so calm!” Dars’ father threw his hands up in the air, turning his head around.

“Then-it-went-BAM!” Dars said, cutting off his father’s exaggerated expression. He hit the boat, causing it to sway wildly. The boat picked up some water, then it quickly flipped over. “Oh no!” He grabbed the older man but they both started to sunk from their combined weight. The latter switched back the boat and hopped on it as fast as he could, Dars following suit. “Wow, you’re fast too!”

“Can’t I learn from my lovely and wonderful son?” he said, turning his head oh-so-slightly. He shut his eyes and murmured to himself. Dars, for a decade and more living with him knew his Gratitude chant. Dars looked off into the sea and chanted, hoping that his incoming reverie could help him in “understanding” his flying dream.

Oh, by the way, guys, we're in Africa. Go nuts.

I saw that you're one of the staff here so perhaps so can help me after I found out a few things.

I've seen that a few people from timezones near me (GMT+8, 12 hours ahead of EDT) have applied and got accepted for the RP. Are their characters (when they're still alive) contributing a lot to the RP or are they rarely seen when you go online? I'd like to RP really but timezone is a serious obstructing factor.

I see. Damn, looks like I can't RP with you guys when I sleep in your afternoons as I'll be missing on a bulk of RP happenings. I think you Staff do warn anyone living around my timezone (e.g. Aussies) when reviewing apps about this though.

Hi Last Ark Crew, I have a question: is lots of the RP action happening around now and a few hours later? Right now for me it's like in the middle of the night which sets me in an inconvenience that if I were to RP here I could miss out in plenty of stuff.

As silly and unrealistic as it sounds, yes. Steve/Alex is a full-blown Olympian from the first spawning. But then so is carrying 1728 blocks of gold without being slowed down at all :P.

posted a message on What Minecraft has evolved into

Thanks to this thread I now understand the golden importance of the ability to mod Minecraft. Every major official update to the game now since its full release back in MineCon 2010 seems probably like a minefield from Mojang's perspective as updates are now rarer and so people keep complaining as it takes forever to get the next thing they "like". Seeing rabbits added probably sounded like a waste to some for updates come every six months or so when Mojang could somehow find something genuinely very agreeable to add from the community's voice. But ironically speaking of which, the voice is the main obstacle when the developers want to add something they think is a really good idea but when the snapshot reactions come...

With mods, everything can ideally be fixed to accommodate everyone (that is, until a new update prompts a long update time by the modders ). Well, I've seen complaining threads back in 2013 where everyone was hurling aggressive rebuttals to one another; great to see the lack of vitriol here.

The Iron Golem was probably dazed. "Well, that's much nearer," Starstruck said to Pigmus. "We still need shears to obtain the leaves. I tried grabbing them directly and they disappeared."

Starstruck heard some rustling and found a young wolf. That's crazy, he thought. It's like having leaving a child to roam the world on his own. Being wild is not an exception.

Starstruck nodded at himself. The jungle was unchanged. Most places don't seem to change though when you leave it. The great bush near them was somehow continuously surviving without bothering to reproduce. He turned to see another Enderman at sight. He quickly looked away; not every Enderman is friendly.

Starstruck turned to the Iron Golem. "You're Steve - V - Stone, right? I'm not used to compound names. I know a cave..." Starstruck triangulated his location and turned himself to the right bearing. "...from this direction."
