that means you do not have enough ram to execute the operation. 2G is what you would need to change . looks like youre working with a 32 bit system so change 2G to something a little smaller like 1500M then see if that works it is because when working with a 32 bit system you can only allocate a maximum of 2 gigs to any operation. thats why you would get that error. if you dont have a 32 bit system than its still the same thing . youre running low on RAM

    Thanks a bunch! This worked

doesnt matter if you have the jar or the .exe creating a .bat file for either of them will do the same thing. just fashion the batch file for whichever version you have.
    JAR
    java -Xmx2g -Xms2G -jar minecraftserver.jar -o true nogui
    PAUSE

    EXE

    java -Xmx2g -Xms2G -exe minecraftserver.exe -o true nogui
    PAUSE

I tried qtpriest's fix with the .jar server... when I open the startserver.bat I get this

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occured. Program will exit.

posted a message on Port Forward Help
    Hi,
I have been having problems port forwarding my router for a new Minecraft Server.

I know that I connect with the ipv4 address and my friends connect with the public ip address, but whenever someone tries to connect, it says "connection timed out:connect" or something like that.

I am confused about exactly how to port forward and what ip address to port forward, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
