posted a message on Thaumcraft 2 vs. Equivalent Exchange 2
As per the title, I'd like to see an end all be all debate between Thaumcraft 2 and Equivalent Exchange 2.

I want to see logical debating that weighs the pro's and con's of each mod, not a bunch of 12 year olds flaming each other for not agreeing. Lets see if we can settle this debate, once and for all, as gentlemen.

Aha I've actually made the same thing before. I used to in my normal looking base to access a secret underground fortress on my friend's server. Good work though, I'm sure people would love a tutorial for it. Took me an hour to get it how I wanted =/

    @Flamespike,
Would you want to do a colab on such a level?

I don't see how this is either "stupid" or "pointless". As a new player, I wouldn't want to have to go look at the wiki for an hour before I play, and have to keep referring to it every time I encounter something new. Many people would rather have a street smart approach rather than a book smart one. As for getting to the .minecraft folder, an .exe could easily be made that does the unpacking and moving for you. Seems easy enough.

To new players, the vast scope and numerous items in the world can be overwhelming. How do I make a ladder? Whats this eye thing? What is this huggable green th-SSSSSSSSSSSSSS BOOM. I've been thinking, why not make a simple tutorial level to ease people into the game, while letting those who know how to play experience everything the game has to offer on a small scale? One tutorial to rule them all. My thoughts are as follows:
-A small map (8-12 chunks) with progressing levels of advanced knowledge and items
-Intro section (that can be skipped) with signs to describe basic functions such as movement, mining, and basic crafting
-Include a linear sort of path with pre-laid out areas to introduce new concepts and items
-"Natural" mine system to explore with signs giving hints, clues, tips, and explanations as you go.
-Eventually introduce the nether with a pre-made portal and basic usage instructions
-Pre-made nether area for safety, start small then go big!
-After most concepts are grasped (mining, farming, crafting, fighting, building, potions, etc) introduce The End
-Include a library of crafting recipes with item explanation
-Include a mob zoo to show the many mobs, explain behavior, and give tips
-Have a free build area once the player is familiar enough to go on their own

So thoughts? Let me know if there is interest in the above poll, and if anyone would like to make such a map (pending enough positive results in the poll/comments) let me know!

    Step 1: Find Enderman
    Step 2: Kill Endermen
    Step 3: ?????
    Step 4: Profit
But seriously, I feel minecraft is a bit too easy unless you are into the whole challenges thing or if you like to leave your base to adventure. Harder mobs to me is a sign of more good things to come. If people are so concerned about them and lack the skill/intelligence to build a better base, then there is a peaceful mode and there are mods to remove mobs. Glad to see a bunch of like-minded games who don't cower in fear of change.

Unless I've missed something, notch isn't changing the map gen to make deeper water. All that is changing is the addition of rivers, ravines, and bigger dungeons. Also, you could always find a seed in 1.8 that has less water, there's an entire section for seeds.

Everyone, go look in the seeds section. Go now. There are some INTENSE beta seeds that I feel put alpha gen to shame.

posted a message on Possibility of using Pistons to make a "pop up" house!
You can make such a house large by using a metric dickload of pistons and circuitry, utilizing a sand floor. Pistons push your house up, with the air blocks in the house being filled by sand. Once erect, the pistons retract, the sand falls level to the floor, and you have your home. Works once =P

Or make it in the normal world, with a pitfall that the pigs fall down with a lava blade to catch them on fire as they fall. So pigs get pushed to a pitfall, on the way down hit a lava blade and catch fire, and die from falling damage. Since they were on fire at the time of death, they drop cooked pork.

Edit: Ninja'd for the first time ever. God damn it.

Try looking up clocks based around repeaters. As they don't use torches, they can't burn out. They are also more reliable on timing I think, as well as being adjustable.
