I have saved a backup that is about two months old: a lot of 'work' to lose.
I wonder if there are measures that could be taken, such as:
Destroying beds because they affect spawn.
Destoying offline players' golems or tamed animals because of lost assocciation?
Destroying doors that may define phantom villages.
Getting rid of too many stored items (Are there limits?).
I wish Mojang/4J would be more proactive in letting us know what may be causing the frozen save screen or other issues, what might relieve the issue and when or if the issues might be fixed.
I sure hope they properly address corrupt save data, maybe by writing salvageable data over a new map with place holder blocks for those that can't be restored. A lot of cumulative effort has gone into a lot of people's maps. I'm sure it would be easy for them to write off others invested time, but it would be totally wrong.
