posted a message on RaiserCraft - No Whitelist, No Hierarchy, Player Equality

"Create a name for yourself", in RaiserCraft

You don't have to read the entire thread, but please read all text that is bold or underlined.

This thread is going to explain our philosophy and how it will deliver a great gameplay experience to you.
    Rather than a features list, we're going to describe everything under two categories;

    Gameplay, and Community

    Gameplay

At this time, there is no way to use Bukkit with TerraFirmaCraft.
We've considered the trade-offs between Bukkit (the plugins system) and TerraFirmaCraft (the minecraft.jar mod).
To deliver our vision and experience best, we've chosen TFC.
Why did we choose TFC instead of Bukkit for gameplay?

Gameplay plugins are often piled up on servers, distracting people from the creativity in Minecraft

    Examples:
    • Having to grind money for protection plugins
There is no universal currency here. Our players will likely establish trading/bartering systems with eachother instead.
Protection is up to each player; calling out rulebreakers so that the angels and console catch them.
    • Having to grind experience points to level-up and unlock skills
This distracts the player from gameplay.
    • Having to unlock gameplay that's already in the game
We don't feel the need to explain this.

If you want exp, classes, skills, and a dozen things to level up, your effort may be more meaningful in an (MMO)RPG.
Unless the theme of a survival server is battle, many of these grinds are distracting you from being creative.

TerraFirmaCraft adds a lot of depth to the gameplay mechanics in ways that plugins don't.
"The aim of TFC is to bring some much needed believability to Minecraft." ~TFC FAQ
It adds entire systems for crafting, filling many gaps in how items are created or converted, while adding pages of new materials.
The gameplay of TFC brings Minecraft many steps closer to how things work on Earth, and makes technology feel more rewarding.
We believe this expands on your Minecraft experience better than plugins do.

Why do we include Smart Moving?

Smart Moving makes movement to be much more fluent, which gives the experience a more engaging perspective.
The ability to sprint, climb, dive, slide, prone, crawl-- these expand the horizons of the way a player travels.

For an example, have a look at this video:
    !

    Community

You, the player, are the most important part of a server. Without the you, there is no meaning to our server.
It is for this reason, that we put extra consideration into how you're treated while you visit RaiserCraft.

    Convenience
    • We're going to avoid doing anything that wastes your time
    • We will not make you wait through a whitelisting process to document you
    • We will not make you fill out any applications
    • We will not restrict you from gameplay in any way, unless it hurts the gameplay of others
    • You will be allowed to connect and play immediately as long as you read the rules

    Equality

A major part of our experience is that everyone begin equals, but their speech and actions build their reputation.
Each player is responsible for their own reputation, and nobody will earn reputation through levels, ranks, donations, or permissions.

There will never be a hierarchy system.

You will never have to deal with:

    - Censorship
    - Corrupt admins or moderators
    - Favoritism towards donators (we do not need or accept donations)
    - Immature players getting priveleges
    - Tyrants or dictators
    - Unfair kicks/bans

Our players make major decisions for the server through debate

The server is about you, the players.
The host, ops, angels, etc- will not have any more power of voice than players.
You can suggest any ideas you have, as long as you suggest them maturely.

    Some possible debates
    • Added features
    • Customization of the server
    • Identifying player-made issues, and dealing with them
    • Rules (the primary rules defined below can not be altered)
    Examples
    • 'We need a site / We need a VoIP server / We need etc -- because <reason>'
    • 'We should change the max slots to <setting> for a week, because <reason>'
    • 'This building shouldn't be here. I think we should remove it because <reason>'
    • 'We should have a new rule where <rule>, so that <reason>'
In each of these examples, the players can call a vote or debate.
If the consensus is yes, people can volunteer for the task or the host may directly take care of it.
If the consensus is no, it can still be done but it isn't a primary concern.

Remember: You can suggest anything as long as you do so in a mature manner!

    Management

Because TFC does not support plugins yet, we have to manage some things manually.

'Angels' are our method of preventing rulebreaking

When a person shows great maturity and integrity, and want to play a supporting role, they can be interviewed for access to a special account.
These special accounts are set to Creative gamemode, allowing very fast travel via flight, a large field-of-vision, and access to a bow with unlimited arrows.
We call these accounts 'angels' to keep things simple. We're not trying to be majestic- they just play very much like the angel in Actraiser.
Their higher field of vision and their ability to travel quickly with flight allows us to change moderation into something more interesting.

Things a player might do as an angel:
    - use their bow and arrows to fend off monsters and protect players
    - locate new places to build, for players to use
    - find and report or kill rule-breakers to ensure minimal damage
*Note: angels are not allowed to kill without evidence of rule-breaking (snapshots, videos, chatlogs, etc)

We do regular world backups, to minimize/undo damage (Griefs, theft, loss of items, etc)

The time these occur will be determined by players.
If a lot of damage is done, we will use a map editor to cut/paste the building from the latest world backup.

We will be able to identify rulebreakers through a variety of methods that were simplified (but not added) by Bukkit.

    Primary Rules

There are some rules that make the foundation of our gameplay experience.
These are unable to be changed, to protect fairness for our players.
We will unfortunately have to ban repeat offenders, to ensure everyone gets a fair gameplay experience.
I don't ever want to have to issue a ban; I would appreciate for people to respect eachother's right to play here.

Please do not abuse 'angel' accounts

Angel accounts are only meant to be assigned to mature players who have integrity and respect.
This is because we are unable to restrict access to Creative mode functions- only monitor their use.

The only item an angel is permitted to use/take from the Creative menu is the bow.
If you kill a rule-breaker, you're responsible to have evidence before doing so, otherwise it's considered abuse.

Types of evidence: snapshots, witnesses, videos, logfiles, etc (the more, the better)

Please do not grief (hurt the creations of other players)

Please don't touch buildings that belong to other players without their permission.
If someone builds something that is obnoxious and/or in the way, discuss it in chat and have a vote.
World backups are done regularly, so any griefing can be undone quickly.

Please do not attack and/or kill a player without their permission

Please don't attack or kill others without their permission (fight invitation, arena, etc).
We would quickly check the log files to see if permission was given.
If not, the killer may be kicked with 100% of their belongings being given to the victim.
We want to keep PvP on so it's there for the players who want to use it responsibly-
if it becomes an issue, we'll have to remove PvP from the server (players can vote on this).

    How to play on RaiserCraft

You will be unable to connect to RaiserCraft without modding a file called minecraft.jar.
This file can usually be found in: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin
This file is the 'content' of Minecraft! Distribution of this file is illegal!
For this reason, you will have to install the mods yourself.

    Installing TerraFirmaCraft: http://www.terrafirm...t.com/download/
    Installing SmartMoving: http://www.minecraft...p-smart-moving/

Remember: You only need the client modifications.

If anyone knows how to make installation easier, we would greatly appreciate for you to post it so it can be added here.

PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE CONNECTING!
SECOND OR THIRD CHANCES ARE VERY RARE.

    no replies really?

Typically, the longer, more concise, and well-structured your opening post,
the less the average server-seeker in this forum is inclined to come look.

You're designing a very in-depth system, with a lot of thought and detail.
Many of the players in this general forum are between the age of 10-14, and see it as tl;dr.
Be sure you don't lose ambition over time due to this.
People who want a full Minecraft roleplay experience will be interested.

    You seem to have a very lucid vision of what you want to accomplish;
PM me if I can assist you with bandwidth-assets.

    Update:

    - More write-up complete; security measures and gameplay mechanics ironed out to be more entertaining
    - A few members added to both build and staff rosters
    - Several (regular) players noted for launch

    Still accepting more of each!
We'll be launching pretty soon, and migrating our thread to Survival Servers.

posted a message on Looking for Spawn builders.
Admin joined the server and asked me to 'Identify myself'.
He left me without play permissions, or even the ability to eat food.
Some creepers caught up to me and blew up, because I couldn't sprint.

Admin kicked me because it hurt his dirt.

posted a message on Looking for builders and staff members for chain of servers
Do you remember Actraiser, for the Super Nintendo?
For TL:DR, just read the information that is underlined.

We're currently preparing the first of multiple planned Minecraft servers.

We're looking for two kinds of people:

    - Builders who want to help design and/or create templates for some cities
    - Staff members who are mature and rational, to discuss how our servers will work

Each of these two servers will be themed after a classic Super Nintendo game

<-- Gameplay of Actraiser (Skip to 2:40)

The two servers will have different execution of the same vision.

The first (the one we're recruiting for now), will be themed around recreational play and construction.
The second will focus on the ongoing battle between two forces, and will be designed if the first populates.

We have write-ups for most of the major setup and considerations of both servers.
In both servers, all roles will be filled by actual players.
We've tested this format in small environments, and it can be a lot of fun in both setups.

Before launch, we'll only be dismissing in-depth gameplay information to accepted staff members.
If you're wondering what the gameplay of these servers will be like, watch the Youtube video above.
Pay close attention to the relationship between the Angel and the Townspeople who build,
but bare in mind that certain mechanics will be altered to keep the game fresh and fun for players.

Bandwidth is not a concern -- we have more than we can feasibly use,
and plenty more is available for further expansion or alternate visions.

    ---

    If you would like to
    - ask any sort of question
    - ask for the information of one or more of our servers to check ping, etc
    - apply for a staff position
    - apply to help with building

    PM me or post below.

We greatly value decency and maturity, so our staff slots are never 'full'.
