posted a message on Do Christmas chests still exist in minecraft

All you'd have to do is look at the texture files, I'd think, and see if the Christmas textures are there or not. I don't think they were hidden in any way, though I could be wrong on that, I haven't looked at the vanilla files in a long time.

Just looked and the Christmas textures are still there, in the \textures\entity\chest folder, christmas.png, christmas_left.png, and christmas_right.png, so if you wanted them to have that texture all the time instead of just at Christmas, make a texture pack that includes those textures and just change the names to be the same as the normal chest textures.

According to the mod download page, it requires Fabric, are you using that and the API it requires?

posted a message on Minecraft fps drops from 200 to 5 in 1 second.

Download and install geforce experience and it will do it automatically, if you don't want to keep it, you can then uninstall it, but it does keep your drivers up to date easily.

Better to beg forgiveness after than to ask permission before, right? Good luck!

posted a message on Setting up a Server on a University Network (How to "forward"?)

I would say instead of trying to get around the network firewalls with something sketchy, and possibly get in trouble with the university's IT department, go to them directly and see if you can set up a server. They may be willing to do so, especially if you link it to a study course, possibly in computer networking or IT or some other course. There is an educational version of Minecraft that could be run during school hours that might qualify for this, and then the server could run a normal game during off times.

posted a message on Unable to have multiple people on the same wifi join a private server.

Shouldn't matter if some computers are direct connect with ethernet and the rest are wifi, as long as they are all connected to the same internal network (192.168.0.xxx is the usual address space), then they should all be able to connect. If they can't, then it's probably internal firewalls that are blocking the connection, not the fact that some are wifi. If you fix that then open to lan should work fine, I've set up Minecraft games like that for families a few times. Each individual computer needs to have it's firewall set to allow Java through or they won't connect. Even then because of some weirdness in Minecraft or Java or Windows (if you're using Mac then I have no idea) some computers can be the host and some can't for any weird reason.

Why only one can connect at time is another issue, and as Tails mentions, are all computers using a separate purchased copy of Minecraft with their own login?

posted a message on Map Help!!!!

If the map is pre-made, did it come with a mod pack? If so, then it's probably set up to have the ores needed for a certain progression in the mod pack. If it's just a random map you're using and not part of the pack, then you'd need to run a mod on it that will generate ores and insert them into the pre-made map. There probably is such a mod, or an external utility, but I don't know the name of one offhand.

Depending on what mods are loaded, there may be some way to configure what ores are generated and where and how often.

Not to mention one badly coded mod or one mod being used incorrectly in the world can cripple the FPS.

posted a message on Finding an unconnected cave

If you're playing a more recent version, you can turn on subtitles, they will give you a general direction of where a sound is coming from. Stand in one spot and watch where it indicates a sound is coming from, then dig a little that direction, 20 blocks or so, and stand and wait for the sounds to repeat. Eventually you'll get to where they are, then dig up or down.

Or just cheat and use spectator mode.

posted a message on I need help with Village trades

So does the villager not spawn, or not have the pick for sale? I don't know much about commands but the part with the custom name looks weird, I would think the quotes around the name would be consistent, either "\"Arthur"\" or ""\Arthur\"" or even \""Arthur""\ not "\"Arthur\"" like you have, check that, just to be sure, if not, then I don't know.
