Amazing work there! I love seeing creations that are amazing without being unbelievably large. It leaves hope for the rest of us. Like your floor designs. You have a great aesthetic sense.
To the tileset comment, all I'll say is that it's easy to recognize someone that plays Dwarf Fortress (Or that is my hunch...)
Very nice house, and I like the patterns you used for contrast. I might just use those, because (In my humble opinion) my homes always look dull, though I try to vary the materials. Great work, and I love your texturepacks!
I really like the windmills... Just saying. Never could get anything to look so nice. I prefer stout, stone structures, so I never really build like that... Still, nice farm!
Looks pretty good! Personally, I like to have my roof project at least one space beyond the walls of my house, so that would be my suggestion. Like the hedge wall, too.
Actually, I've never heard of a dwarf burning in sunlight. I've read countless fictional fantasy novels and I've never come across it ever.
The burning in sunlight aspect of this challenge seems to have nothing whatsoever to do with actual dwarves, and I'm not biting the OP's sunburn explanation because spending years in a mine without exposure is another assumption that I've never seen as well.
Given how the OP's tried to stay true to the other well known characteristics of a dwarf, namely mining and rocks, this seems out of place.
Well, you're absolutely right, on one count. I haven't encountered that sort of dwarf in fantasy either. However, the point of fantasy is that it's not normal.
Also, besides "Mining and rocks," what other traits are there to make dwarf-living challenging? I'm interested in knowing, and I'm sure the OP would gladly take suggestions. It's just that a challenge where the only restriction is that you have to be standing on cobblestone is less of a challenge and more of a tedious chore.
Finally, like the others said, this is a single player challenge. Nothing is making you follow any of its rules. Change them if you don't like them, or suggest something helpful as an alternative. Just saying "I don't like the rules," is sorta pointless, especially in a situation where the rules are completely optional.
Great Challenge, good sir. You could say I like dwarves, and I find this challenge to be quite intriguing. I believe I'll start it when the full game is released. Great work.
Sorry all, I was on a trip. No pictures, I see.... interesting.
Anyhow, more pressing business. I see there are alot of user suggestions for new missions. Should I post a poll and take the top voted 5 or so, or should I just add them all? I figure that's as much my decision as it is everyone else who uses the challenge, so I leave it in your hands. Poll or just add them all?
Just writing to express my admiration for your idea. I'm gonna have to try this. Also, I like the idea of a consistent Journal, if only because I like ancient history, and there's something that screams "Herodotus" in a single person recording everything that he knew about... everyone.
I'm glad you guys have had so much fun with this challenge. I never expected the reaction I got (And indeed, I'm a bit overwhelmed by this thread now...) but I'm very thankful for your support.
Unfortunately (As you are all aware, I'm sure), there are some new issues that weren't there when I created this challenge, like animal farming and the like. I'm also out of ideas for solutions. Here's where I beg you guys for help:
I would appreciate it if you guys post some recommended changes to the rules in simple language so that I can understand them. I'll screen them, and revise the challenge so that survival with food limitations becomes more plausible. Thanks in advance; this forum has a great community, and I know I'll get some good feedback.
Also, as I've said, I'm woefully overwhelmed by all the posts this thread gets. If there's interest, I can make a poll, and we can vote on adopting some of the user suggestions of the past.... 14 pages? Wow.
So I guess, ultimately, this is my convoluted apology for all but abandoning this thread. I just had no idea how much interest it would generate. Please forgive me! :sad.gif:
