Profession is random. If you have cheats enabled you can /tp your villagers, as described here:

    https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/redstone-discussion-and/commands-command-blocks-and/2745534-need-help-making-villagers-go-somewhere

Villagers can not open gates, only doors. So your best bet is to surround the village with a double fence or wall, and at intervals, maybe using the default village paths, add a door as a gate. Finish with a lot of lighting, throw up some houses with doors, add an extra door to the larger structures, and your appreciation will come in the form of more villagers to trade with. That's about all they give you. But I like to think they like me around.

I have a unique village that spawned over a huge cave in a heavily forested area, which as I understand is not supposed to happen. I should share some screenshots...

The Minecraft game and engine is overall pretty much the same since its original release. It has been patched and updated, but the foundation is the same, correct? In other words, Minecraft 1.8, 1.10. 1.11 and 1.12 are pretty much the exact same game. They use the same coding for the textures. So why in the heck is every resource pack which is not updated to 1.12.2 unplayable in 1.12.2? The textures don't have to be changed, the sizes are good, the extensions are the same. Yet Minecraft will not use them unless something tells it that the textures are for 1.12.2. Why?

Is there an easy way to set the flags or whatever it is that needs to be done so that any texture pack can be made to be usable in Minecraft 1.12.2? Just use the default textures for anything that is not replaced with a custom texture. Is there a program that I can run a texture pack through, click a few things, and presto! I have a functional 1.12.2 pack? Because a lot of the maps I want to explore are made for 1.10 and earlier, and depend on texture packs that have been abandoned since 2013.

Also will someone reply to this, to let me know that someone, anyone is here actually reading posts at these forums? Because I have posted a dozen threads yet received one response. Where is everyone, if Minecraft is not dying, are they all at Reddit or another forum?

posted a message on Please start sharing your work!

So I have spent the last week or so looking for the maps by FyreUK from the old Minecraft books. I have also been looking for current mappers of the same calibre, and found Elysiumfire. But one theme I have seen from all the prolific and artistic mappers is this stinginess with sharing their work, and it must stop.

This attitude, this mindset, is an old one. Back when I played Unreal, then Unreal Tournament, there was a lot of discussion about finding ways to block players from being able to access a map. To protect maps in some way. Folks like me just wanted to wander around, see how things were done, get inspiration. Whenever they used the trick of releasing a map without its brushes (there was a way to do this, so when you loaded in UnrealED there was nothing you could work with) I spoke up.

This ongoing argument lasted roughly from 1999 to 2004 before it died out. Because it was never an issue. Nobody tried to steal anyone else's work in all the years I was involved in the Unreal community. It was the same for the Morrowind and Oblivion communities. It is the same now.

I assume the reason for the lack of sharing is this fear of having your work stolen. If that is the case you need to understand something, Nobody will steal your work if you release your amazing map to the public to enjoy. Even if there were a few exceptions to this, a few individuals who would try it, there would only be a few, and it would be short-lived. Everyone would be able to instantly and immediately tell the work was not theirs. Your fears are unfounded and unjustified.

I am incredibly disappointed in Elysiumfire if this is their attitude here. In response to the many that have asked for map download they replied, and I quote, "It is not possible." That is utter bullspit! There is no reason they can not release the map or schema.

If you hold the belief that someone out there is going to get you, is after you and will steal your work, it is time to let it go. In a thousand people you would be lucky to find one person considering it. You have a better chance of winning the lottery than having your work stolen, and even if it were stolen, the community would stand behind you and reveal the thiel. There is no profit in it for them, and this mindset does not benefit you.

I speak from over a decade of experience. It is time for the community to open up, to come together in a spirit of friendship and openness. A LOT of minecrafters, myself included, seek inspiration and wish to learn how to build some of these amazing things you, and your teams have built. A lot of mincrafters, like FyreUK, have left the community and we feel that loss. All that knowledge is gone forever, because they did not share it.

When Elysiumfire leaves, if they continue to refuse to share their work, we will lose that knowledge as well. They have shared one map, and for that I am thankful. I hope to see more amazing work like theirs shared freely within the community. It will only make us all stronger, and better minecrafters.

posted a message on Is there any way to determine the exact resource package a schematic is using?

I have recently discovered schematica, and I am hoping with the Print feature I now have a way of creating an actual map I can explore and find inspiration from. A lot of the old Minecrafter artists seemed to submit these .schematic files. I can't get them to load in WorldEdit or MCE. I am having trouble getting them to load in schematica, and I think it has to do with not having whatever resource package they were using. So how can I tell what resources package(s) a schematic depends on?

Also I read somewhere that some blocks for older versions of Minecraft are no longer available in 1.12.2. Is there some sort of mod that provides every block that has ever existed for Minecraft, compatible with Minecraft 1.12.2?

    Thank you for your help.

posted a message on What is the purpose behind making money playing Skyblock?

So I found a video where some dude was all super excited because some other dudes were making billions of dollars a day on some sort of skyblock farm.

I googled and found tons of info on how to play skyblock, but nothing really telling me what it is or what the point of making money is, what this money is and is used for, etc.

I finally did figure out skyblock is a Minecraft game type. Now what is the purpose of making money using it? Why would it matter if you made $10.00 and hour vs $100,000?

    Thanks!
