Really fun, terribly difficult survival server! Come join it!
The lowdown
----------------
First thing, is this server has a 12 hour deathban. Makes it more exciting, and every night more difficult.
Next, you start out in a MASSIVE desert, it takes a long long journey to find other biomes, and they are few and far between.
Drop rates are VASTLY reduced. Punching through a whole tree MIGHT give you a stick or two, and a sapling. You get better drops from better tools. A stone axe will give you a fair number of saplings planks and sticks, and so on. The hard part is finding enough trees without dying the first few nights to get the needed 4 planks for a workbench, and 3 planks for a pick axe
TREES- ALWAYS break the leaves first, leaves drop sticks, saplings, and sometimes planks. Use stone tools when you can. and guard your saplings.
ZOMBIES- Zombies can REPLICATE. When there are storms, fighting a zombie causes them to occasionally replicate as they near death. Be prepared for it. Zombies drop leather, fish. wheat sometimes.
CREEPERS- Only happened once to me, but creepers can drop diamonds
HEALING-You heal by eating food, old school style.
HUNGER-Infinite hunger bar and infinie sprint
PROTIP 1- FIRST build a pick axe. Get some stone. MAKE A STONE AXE. Stone axe garuntees sustanable drops from trees
PROTIP 2-Joing someone, its much easier with allies. Not neccesary, but it makes life easier.
Generally people there are quite helpful, and with the 12 hour deathban, pvp is a very very rare thing. No one wants to risk dying, as death carries alot more weight.
Its a very difficult yet very fun server, addicting XD. Currently I am in a group with two other guys, and we have a pretty sweet base set up. Besides coal, which is tough to find, we are set up very well. just a guess, but I'm willing to bet we are the most established people on the server. We've been working our asses off since it came up.
Wait, OP is going to DOWNGRADE because he doesnt like the features that are OPTIONAL and he doesnt HAVE to use?

I disagree, I like the new biomes. I like not being able to run through 5 biomes in a 1 min walk. Deserts are SUPPOSED to be big, not just a small sand patch. Oceons are supposed to be OCEANS, not large lakes.
I always carry a map, and once I get past the edges of my map, make another.
Also I like to occasionally build medium sized "watchtowers", small lighthouses in the middle of the land. Usually with a single block abstraction on it pointing me in the way home
Give me a reasonable reason why they WOULDNT belong in this world of skeletons-zombies-Nether-dungeons-caves-tnt-ext ext.
Quit talking like you know what minecraft is supposed to be, seriously. Its a completely random game with no goal. There is no "theme", regardless of what you think it should be.
And skeletons who shoot bows and craftign weapons and armor isnt "fantasy" in its own right?

Oh my god. Talk about massive complaining and over exageration. Endermen hardly do anything to landscapes at all. If you left a world on for a few years maybe you'd see some noticable effect, but otherwise, seriously?
Everyone keeps complaining about something thats not even noticable, unless you have every inch of land memorized. Hell, endermen dont even SPAWN that often. All this whining and complaining is just over reacting. Eventually it will go away when all of you guys find something else to cpmplain about. And a year down the road, endermen wont have ruined a single world.
And while all of you will have forgotten your ranting and complaining by then, I will look back, smile, and think one thing. "Idiots.."
Hardcore mode rocks. Makes death something to be afraid of, and makes every achievment and every finished construction that much more rewarding.
I've currently got a very comfy house, workshop, and feild and farm running now, and an extinsive underground ravine mostly conquered. My next test is the Nether, however I cant find any diamond.
Oh and poison spiders are frightening on hardcore mode.
Cant get it working. After loading a new world, it crashes/freezes before visually loading the world (however my exp/health/hunger/ and item hotbar all show up. just everything else is blackscreen.)
