posted a message on Minecraft Updates too freequent?
I wish I could post without bumping.

Personally, I like not having to wait ages for the new content to arrive. Although they have had a LOT of patches recently.

Just went through it and updated some things. Some things were shortened and others were lengthened, and maybe a new thing or two. No drastic changes. I'm thinking of ditching my current navigation system in favor of just putting torches on the right or something, since my old system was originally based on cave systems that could be fully explored.

And the mini-base was originally devised because you might have to wander for a few hundred blocks to find a good cave system. Now with essentially unlimited caves directly under your base, it isn't as important. I've been thinking of just removing that section.

Do they STILL favor one corner of villages? I've laid the groundwork for a large village, but I don't want to fill it with houses unless they will fill the village evenly.

posted a message on Trying to prevent spider spawns in my sky grinder, need help
I tried the wiki and looking tutorials up on youtube, but no joy. My current spider prevention technique is having slabs in a grid every third block, so there is never more than a 2X2 area of flat ground. There are also some thin, 1-block-wide strips eight blocks long which have no spider prevention. I thought spiders needed a 3x3 area of flat ground to spawn, but I'm clearly wrong. Anyone know how to reliably prevent spider spawns in a dark area?

I'm with FossilizedMiner. Creeper holes get filled with cobblestone except for the top layer, which matches the surroundings. So the next time a creeper goes off in the same place, it will be easier to fix. Some frequently-traveled areas on my server have actually seen this pay off.

I see one or two of these in every cave I explore. Come back if you find something you can build a pixel-to-block scale mob statue in. The best ones I've found were still a few blocks short.

posted a message on Cave spider grinder question
How can I reliably get spiders to go down? I know how to make them go up, but due to some constraints in their location, I need the spider stream to go down a few blocks. Any ideas? None of the grinder tutorials I've found show a way.

A number of people have spotted arilotter flying. And tonight, he used xray to find my base. You don't just see an underground and completely sealed lair from a hundred blocks off.

And I think I'm about done with this hole of a server. You can't have a publically advertised non-whitelisted and vanilla server. the spawn area is a wasteland, and only two of the people I've interacted with have not tried to destroy my base and kill me for fun. I came here to prank people's houses, but the server is so thoroughly griefed that there's nothing to prank.

    posted a message on Carrots
Harder-to-get crops are superior to crops you can start on day one. Is there really something wrong with this?
BTW, I'm pretty sure carrots and potatoes grow faster than wheat. And baked potatoes are the best food in the game. Get a stack of those and you're good for IRL days. Beef and pork will heal more drumsticks and keep you full a little longer, but baked potatoes are extremely fast and easy to make.

posted a message on X-Ray Mod with Opacity, Cave Finder, Fullbright (Always updated!)
When I have graphics set to fast, blocks are all either completely transparent or completely opaque. Is that normal?

And I'm experiencing a significant drop in framerate. I'm running on a Toshiba satellite p755d. 6gb ram, 4X1.5ghz processors, integrated graphics. Windows 7, 64-bit.

It occasionally crashes and immediately closes the game when I open the config menu or change a setting within it.
And this appeared on my desktop one time when it happened.

Treeing, icing, and vining are my top three pranks. Make sure to use oak trees. Branches are a pain in the butt.

I believe that griefing is destroying, stealing, or permanently ruining someone's stuff. However, there are a lot of mean or annoying things you can do that aren't griefing. Like filling someone's house with ice. Or planting huge numbers of trees on his roof. If you've seen the video "the vining" then that's on the border of griefing because clearing it up must have taken ages.
