I'd love to have a look at the source and see if I can help with anything.

I've been meaning to set up a google code thing for this, since my interest is waning and the community can help.

The source is kind of a mess, I'll probably want to clean that up first. I'll also need to keep control of the official automatic updates. I can't have people accessing that private certificate and issuing viruses automatically to people's computers.

I'm not sure what you think you need to do to add a color set, but it does not require any knowledge of programming! This seems to be a really common thing for people to not understand (I get messages asking for custom color sets every few days even though the feature has been there since last September.)

Let me give a short tutorial.

STEP 1: Download a texture pack and unzip it

STEP 2: Open the MCMap Live Preferences

STEP 3: Press the plus (+) button in the Preference window

STEP 4: Navigate to the texture pack's unzipped folder and select the terrain.png file. Press Add Color Set.

STEP 5: Some texture packs use biome colors and some do not. Fix the colors if this pack has gray grass and leaves and you don't want to use biome coloration.

STEP 6: Double-click the "New Color Set" to rename it.

STEP 7: Close the preferences, you can enable the color set in the Options -> Colors

Now if you just wanted to add a color set and use it, you're done now. If you want to change block colorations manually, you can. Open back up preferences.

    STEP 8: Click on ~/Library/Application Support/MCMap Live

STEP 9: The color set folder opens. In here you'll see all the color sets you've added. They are text files. Open one.

STEP 10: Each line names a block id and lists its color in RGB values.

The first number on each line is a block ID. This will help you.

The second, third, and fourth numbers are the RGB color value of the tile. Make sure all the numbers are integers 0-255. Rather than fiddle with this too much, you can use a color picker where you can select a color visually and then fill in the values it gives.

The fifth value is alpha. 0 is transparent, 255 is opaque.

The sixth value is noise level. If you use the noise settings, larger integers are more noise. If you leave noise off, this number has no effect. But it needs to be there even if it's zero!

Save this file, open up MCMap Live, select the color set and the map will be painted in the colors you chose.

Is there, or are there plans for, a color key for the blocks?
I have the just downloaded MCMapLive yesterday and love it. Though just wish I could identify things better.

You can make your own color set from a terrain png or use the "Find Blocks..." menu item to highlight specific block types.

Well that's no good. But I'll need more information to help.

1.) Do you have MCMap Live version 1.4.1?
2.) Are you updated to Mac OS X 10.5.8?
3.) What kind of computer do you have? iMac, Macbook, etc. Intel or PPC?
4.) When you say "crashing your mac", do you mean the entire computer freezes up or just MCMap Live?
5.) When does this happen? After loading a map or before? Does any of the map show up before the freeze?
6.) Are there any error reports that pop up? Can you post one here in
     tags?

UK craft was a just a joke to let you know that it sounds pretty racist grouping aboriginals with animals.

hey donkeykong why isnt there a zoom out tool?

If you had read the first post or the help in the app or just tried some standard stuff, you would know there is a zoom function. I mean, it's really obvious you can zoom. I do it in the video and the screen shots.

    For wheel mice: scroll
For trackpads: use the pinch gesture
For keyboards: Cmd+ zooms in, Cmd- zooms out, and Cmd 0 brings you back to normal size

Small bugfix release. Fixes some problems with importing texture packs from a png (missing tree leaves), nicer Colors menu, improved color sets built in, and updated to the newest mcmap build.

The newest mcmap build fixes some problems with memory usage and crashing, so if you were having trouble with that in the previous version, it should be fixed now.

Alright, looks like mcmap is crashing. When I get a free minute, I'll push out an update with the newest mcmap binary and we'll see if that fixes anything.

The last person who had that problem was accidentally pointing the extractor at an old copy of minecraft, pre Beta 1.3. Make certain that's not happening.

If you have any mods that change the save system, that can break things too.

MCMap Live crashes on me whevenever I try to use any of the program's rendering features (day, night, cave, find block etc...) Zooming, panning and slicing works, but nothing else does. I'm running it on OSX 10.5.8 and I have plenty of free RAM. Tried running it first thing after rebooting, but still crashes. What gives?

I have no idea. You are the first to report this behavior and nothing I can think of off the top of my head could cause that problem. Can you post the crash log information? Be sure to throw it in between
tags so that it doesn't take up too much room. I bet it's really long.

Also, is there anything else special about your setup? PPC Mac? Version of Minecraft that's older than 1.3?

Version 0.8 works perfectly with 1.4 client. No idea about server. I basically don't play minecraft anymore but I still enjoy maintaining these utilities (go figure). So if something is broken, let me know and I'll fix it. Otherwise I'll assume everything is still fine.

I may sound stupid, but how do you run the InsideJob app? I downloaded and everything, but can't get it to work

You have to delete your really super accomplished main world and make a new one called "World1", that's, like, the one disadvantage to Inside Job. Otherwise it's great.

Uhh, or just rename that world's folder!

I would love to be able to see my own posts. I don't use the general search much, since google is better at that.
