Is there a web version? I don't have a computer to download this and want to try it for my ps4.

If you are looking for a web based alternative, I've used http://mineatlas.com/ and have been happy with it. It doesn't have all the features of Amidst, so I still choose Amidst over it, but sometimes I bookmark my seed in case I want to have a quick look of biomes and don't need the more advanced features like biome highlighting, etc.

Be sure to select a save profile that uses 1.6, there may have been terrain/biome changes since then, you could look on the wiki and see when the terrain generation was changed. If you have updated the world and are now playing it in a more recent version, then there will be definite borders where the old terrain ends and the new terrain begins. In this case, AMIDST will show the correct biomes for the new areas when you select a profile that is running the new version, but the areas created in the older version will be wrong. There's no fix for this, AMIDST only handles one terrain generator at a time and has no way to know where in your world the boundary is.

This is correct. I would only add that terrain generation changed at version 1.7. Because of this, it's not recommended to mix pre 1.7 and post 1.7 versions in a world because of mismatched biomes when you explore new land. (You can still do it, but you'll definitely notice some not-so-smooth transitions at the boundary of pre&post 1.7 generated land.) If you are staying solely in 1.6, just make sure you use a vanilla 1.6 profile when using AMIDST.

    1.9.4 mods working on 1.10 ;)

I didn't believe this at first, but I've been looking forward to having the minimap back so much I decided to try. I can confirm that Xaeros_Minimap_1.9.4_Forge_1.9.4.jar at least initially works with Forge installed by forge-1.10-12.18.0.1992-1.10.0-installer.jar. I hadn't expected it to even load. If it really is ok to use these together, it would be nice if it was more clearly labeled.

posted a message on [v3.7] AMIDST - Strongholds, Village, Biome, Etc. Finder. [1.7.4]

I'm not too sure about that ocean monument finder. I remember trying a seed where I knew where a monument was and ended up not seeing it there :/

That's a common problem with programs like that webapp or amidst, which take short cuts to find places that work 90% of the time for ocean monuments (the webapp) or villages/temples (amidst). In both cases, it is a combination of figuring out the biome, and applying a coordinate generator on top of that for candidates of possible places. Most of these will be correct, but if the terrain is such at that location that it can't generate the structure, it goes missing. The reason Amidst and that webapp can't tell it will be missing is that these programs don't do the full terrain generation, they just figure out the minimum necessary to find the candidates that work about 90% of the time. If they did all that was required for 100% accuracy, they would be quite a bit slower.

Just a reminder to everyone that the current version of Amidst is still useful if you are playing 1.8, because not much has changed between 1.7 and 1.8. To continue to use Amidst after the update, create a launcher profile for 1.7.10, play it once, and then use that profile when you launch amidst. Also, use the seed rather than opening the level file when opening your world in amidst. To find the seed of your world, use the command "seed" within minecraft.

    Some caveats:

    • You can use a custom world type and change things like ore production, but don't change the biome criteria if you wish to use amidst.
    • One obvious benefit of an update would be seeing water temples, which the current version cannot do. However, you can use this site for that: http://chunkbase.com/apps/ocean-monument-finder

posted a message on Villager farming in custom villages?
I figured it out! I had gamerule mobGriefing set to false, and no farming takes place then. However, when I changed it to true, they farmed in my custom village. Adding that tidbit to the wiki...

When I create a village from scratch in 1.8, populating it with villager spawn eggs, my farmer villagers don't seem to want to harvest the garden I have planted for them. Has anyone else seen this behavior and perhaps figured out what is causing it? I wonder if it is because of the biome I'm building my village in or if there is some metadata on the crops which says whether it is player placed or generated.

Edit: I figured it out! I had gamerule mobGriefing set to false, and no farming takes place then. However, when I changed it to true, they farmed in my custom village.

Yes, I had thought of that. Not only does one of my villagers have a profession of farmer, it's also his career. I've seen other farming careers, such as the shepherd or fisherman also farm in the vanilla villages, but none of these will tend my crops in the village I built.

    cheers both.

eventually i gave up looking [again] used that tool as suggested, with the seed [tho that was a bit weird as my original spawn area was from 1.3.2 "default" - everything outside that from 1.7.2 "amplified" - yeah, i hadn't used this map for over a year :) ]

    - found 1 jungle, in the whole range that showed me on the map. 1 jungle, which was 1000blocks! long in X by 300 Z... no other jungles in the whole seed that i could see [at least what was available on that tool]

    - not sure if that makes it a good seed for having 1 mega jungle, or a bad one, but hey :) cheers for the tips.

I don't think it is your seed. In my experience, jungles are now rare and huge. Mesas are the same way.

When will the update be done for 1.7.2?

This mod depends on MCP. That means Craftminer502 can't start working on the update until it is out. It is taking longer than usual for MCP to update, because so much code has changed in this update. @SeargeDP, the leader of MCP just tweated it will be at least "a few days" before MCP is out. So by logic, you can assume this mod will take at least that much time, more if Craftminer502 actually needs to make changes instead of just compiling once MCP is out.

For those interested in how MCP is doing (and therefore when to even *start* asking about this mod):
