Are you using X-Ray while the block you want is on the screen? You don't have to wait, the blocks show up instantly, but you do have to actively try to x-ray while the block you want listed is in a loaded chunk. If there aren't any of the blocks you want nearby, it will never show in the list.

If you are looking at one, and using X-ray, and you still can't find it in the list, then either there's a bug, or it really is in the list and you just can't find it.

If I don't use Forge or any other mods, and everything seems to work fine for me, do I need to update to v42?

In other words, are there any other updates or fixes that would affect me, going from v41 to v42?

I've uploaded version 41. Should fix this.

    Fixed, thank you!

By the way, I like the new block detection in v40 and v41, too. Seems to work much better.

Minor issue I found with the newest version... XRay v40 doesn't seem to auto-load button config upon startup.

Here's what I've noticed: I have multiple xray profiles (I just named them "XRay-0", "XRay-1", "XRay-2", etc.). I have them mapped to buttons Z, X, C, V, etc (bottom row), and the cave finder is R. Full-bright is F.

Every time I load Minecraft, none of the buttons work. Cave finder is back to being "C", and "X" does nothing (likely because I deleted the default "XRay" profile, and replaced it with the ones named as above). If I go into the button config screen in Minecraft, all my custom button settings are still shown there, but they don't actually work in-game until I change (or simply re-set) one of them, and then they all seem to work again.

Easy enough to work around, but something seems wrong, as version 33 worked fine and didn't do that.

Sounds good, however I don't have or never used MCEdit, where and how do I download it?

    http://www.mcedit.net/

Though from MasterCaver's response, it sounds like my idea can do more harm than I thought. I knew about the half-chunk swath of screwed up trees, but now that he mentions it, I have seen some other weird things similar to what he's describing in my worlds. I probably caused them without realizing it with my chunk deletion.

Maybe that's not such a good idea after all.

What I've done in the past for updates like this is use MCEdit to "trim" my world to remove any outlying chunks that I haven't done anything in (other than travel to).

That way, they can be recreated with the new version, and I don't have to travel several kilometers away to find the new stuff.

If you do try to use MCEdit though, make sure to back up your world first! I've accidentally broken things with it.

You could always go into the debug world which displays every block in the game. Access it by cycling through the world types while holding the shift key.

That is monumentally useful, and something I never knew existed until now.

You're awesome. Thank you so much!!!

Can you please make an option so it doesn't show xray options in controls because if I get screen shared i will get banned.

If it didn't show the X-ray options in controls, you wouldn't be able to set any of the X-ray controls.

Maybe you shouldn't be using the mod to cheat on a server that forbids it?

    Hello A.O.

Well, I finally had a chance to start playing again, and have updated the newest versions of both Minecraft and this mod (MC 1.10.2 and Xray v33).

First, I love the search feature for finding blocks in the block list. That makes things very nice.

The new method of naming blocks (now based off of the item the block drops, IIRC) seems to cause some weird things. For example, it took me forever to figure out how to hide tilled soil (farmland), as apparently it is actually the second mystery "dirt" option. Crops are odd too, since wheat and beetroots are under "seeds" and "beetroot seeds" There's two settings that affect Cocoa plants, maybe depending on their state of growth? I haven't figured that one out yet.

There are other effects that I discovered as well. I was trying to hide all tree leaves so I searched for "leaves". Only 4 showed up (Acacia, Dark Oak, Birch, and Jungle). Oddly, hiding those 4 actually hid all 6 types. Further experimentation revealed that "Acacia Leaves" affects both Acacia and regular Oak leaves, and "Dark Oak Leaves" affects both iteself and Spruce leaves. Not really a big deal, since it's not likely that someone would want to hide only specific types of leaves while showing others, but still, very weird.

Not being a mod creator, and having only a very limited knowledge of the code involved, I guess I'm still confused about why it's so hard to get unique names for each block shown in the world. If you hit F3, and look at a block, it gives you the name of the block you are looking at, plus the specific "variant" of that block, as well as all kinds of additional data specific to that block. That F3 text appears to be unique and accurate for every block I've tried to view.

So why isn't that same info available to use for the block names in X-ray? I'm assuming it has something to do with the way the game is coded, and your hands are tied by what data you can steal from the game. Or maybe that info can't be used for blocks added by other mods? As I said, I don't understand this stuff (nor do I use any other mods that add blocks beyond the ones in the vanilla game), so please forgive the stupid questions.

Sorry for yet another necro, but I still haven't found a suitable substitute for this mod.

Not only did it prevent endermen from wreaking havoc without having to use the "mobgriefing" gamerule (which turns off everything else too), but I really loved the "water and sun-proof" versions of the endermen. This was an all around great mod.

If anyone else out there knows of (or wants to create) a similar mod, please let the rest of us know! :)

Actually, if you use Google Chrome with AdBlockPlus then you should be fine, the only thing adfly does is bring a warning screen up, click continue which restarts the timer and opens a pop up but you can close that fairly quickly, then continue with your download. but yes, doing all that is getting out of hand, this is why pop up blockers were invented.

Took me four tries to get that to work, but it finally did. Thank you.

I think from now on I'll just PayPal Ambient $5 to send me the direct download link in a PM each time he releases a new version. :)

It's not that simple. If you have an ad-blocker (because some ads install cookies and malware), then you get a popup complaining about the ad-blocker. If you refuse to turn off the blocker, you /might/ get past the error by trying again, or you might not.

Yeah, Ad-Fly has gotten mean. They now prevent you from using it if you have an ad-blocker, and most of their "ads" are full of malware and other horrible things, since they do nothing to ensure that they only show legit ads.

I have no problem supporting mod developers, and I totally understand why A.O. would want to use ad-fly links, but it's become a mess.

Can you add an option for an anti-xray bypass, where the xray filters all ores except for coal which are not 2 blocks away from air/lava/water. This is because some anti-cheats for xray add in fake ores that disappear when you go near them, and the only ores that don't disappear are the ones 2 blocks or less away from water/lava/air.

Ambient can speak for himself, by my guess would be that this would be very complicated to code, would only help with one type of anti-xray, and even then would only let you see things that are one or two blocks away from being visible anyway. All so you can cheat on a server that obviously doesn't want you cheating.

    Hardly worth the effort, IMO.
