I disagree. The only way to become mature is through experience, and experience comes through age. When I was fourteen, I thought I knew everything. Now I look back and chuckle at all of the dumb decisions I've made. Am I mature now? No, but I'm more mature than I was five years ago. In five years I'll be more mature than I am now. I won't truly be wise until I'm on my death bed though.

They already know. I've only been proclaiming it for months now. I didn't have to convince them. They were just "um, ok" thought I was being facetious at first, ranted a bit, then the next day they were all "oh, hey, I understand your MLP fandom". Then it was back to "So about the Pull request..." and business as usual. Mostly, Their openness to it was probably based on this thing called "mutual respect". Hell, The same thing happened in reverse for minecraft.
them:hey there is this game called minecraft! It's cool.
Me: *googles* looks dumb.
*next day*
Them: cripes you look like you didn't sleep well.
Me: couldn't. Was playing minecraft.
Also, I live in this 'magical pixie fairy land' called "being an adult" where I choose what the **** I do and do not like, not my peers, or society. If you don't like that, you can get ****ed. Come to think of it, sounds like that is what you need most anyway. -

It's not a cultural phenomenon, because it isn't widespread enough. Star Trek, Star Wars, Mario Bros., stuff from that can be seen around the world, those pieces of entertainment are cultural phenomenons.
MLP isn't a cult classic community, as it's way too widespread at this point.
