Sep 11, 2014The new fence recipes mess me up sometimes, too, so you're not alone.Posted in: Survival Mode
I used to have an index card lying around on my desk that had conversions that I found handy. Like 13 logs = 24 signs. 1 log + 1 leather = 1 item frame. 3 sugarcane + 1 leather = 1 book.
Just info I found useful to have handy while I'm building stuff.

Other way around. What you just described is for gates
1 log = 1 gate
3 logs = 6 fences + 2 planks
6 logs = 12 fences + 1 gate

Not sure you read my post correctly? The second part was in response to a completely different concept of a "portal rail" rather than just a teleporting rail.
I understand the original concept quite well, it's basically like throwing an enderpearl to go from one track to another and taking the minecart with you without having to throw an enderpearl or having the limitations of the destination track being in a place that a thrown enderpearl can't land (like if a wall was in the way).
Sure, it could be used for all sorts of things. Anything in Minecraft can be used in very creative ways. That's pretty much the best thing about Minecraft. It's also why command blocks exist which can do what a teleporting rail can and more, granted it requires a give command to be made.
Alright, I think I'm done defending my opinion. Not that there aren't plenty of holes in my arguments or whatever but I just don't feel like putting any more effort into this right now.
That's why I said "not sure" because you started talking about something else that wasn't a part of the original idea jumping from one discussion to another.
Unless you have cheats enabled, you cannot use command blocks in survival. So no, you wouldn't be able to achieve the same functionality already in-game.
I'm just blown away by how many people immediately think that others would just use this in a regular rail system. Couldn't a server admin just make it 'illegal' to use these rails in that manner?

On my PC it has cooled down from 45C to around 33C after 1.8 update. I guess it's to do with it being somewhat more optimized and using less CPU causing it to not overheat as much.
80 Fahrenheit most likely.

Some tips for that would be:
-Don't clear land. Build with the landscape. This would give room for much more creative castle designs.
-You don't have to get everything before. Just build what you think you are going to build, and if you run out of materials, just get some more. It doesn't have to be a build where you have to finish it in one sitting.
I do build with the terrain. What I meant was when I clear part of it to say level out the area for the foundation, I find I'll sometimes miscalculate and need to expand later on. I'll think I need to count out 15 spaces and then I'll do exactly that, but later realize I needed to count out 16 and not include the back wall or some nonsense.
I also don't ever plan to do a build in one sitting. I just hate it when I go to work building and plan to build as much as I can in the daylight hours and I run out of something half-way through. I tend to build during the day and gather resources at night.

Also, I think it should have to be crafted, because sponges aren't inherently soundproof. Maybe surrounding it in wool in the crafting table. I'm kind of taking the idea from a mod, Extra Utilities, except they didn't use sponge to craft it.
Finally, the 10-block-or-so radius should penetrate through walls, so you wouldn't have to look at them (because they would look very out-of-place).
But this idea would definitely be good in Minecraft. 50% support for now.
If we went with that idea I'd rather the radius be smaller, so you're forced to use more blocks.
Either way, I support the functionality of using sponge blocks in some manner that allows the silence of the lambs. F'n sheep...
Sep 6, 2014My problem with starting on bigger builds is that I don't think big enough with the initial design. I think I've cleared enough land, but I haven't. I think I've gathered more than enough materials, but I haven't. I now know why people create such large storage rooms.Posted in: Survival Mode
Sep 4, 2014You know, for an initial tutorial a step-by-step process of a simple tower might help others as it did yourself. From there you can give more detailed info about starting a small keep and then advice about going larger and larger. I myself would be interested in your tutorial should you create one as what little info you've given so far is great.Posted in: Survival Mode
I haven't tried my hand at any build like this. I tend to stick with purely functional builds and I've gotten great at interior design, but my exterior aesthetics are crap. It's why most of my builds are underground or inside of mountains. I need to work on my landscaping more, too, but it's coming around. I did once make a rather nice pathway from one area to another 300 blocks away.

Sep 4, 2014Deykhal posted a message on Customizable cave/structure generation, plus other suggestions for "customized" settingsI hate ravines only because along with caves I end up with this massive endless cave/ravine system that NEVER ends! I now use customized maps that have 0 ravines. I'd be cool if they did exist, but were rare. Even then I'd make them rare and huge. I'm fine with the way caves are now, but the ability to customize their rarity (and size) would be nice. That's why I supported to begin with.Posted in: Suggestions
Now this idea along with that other one floating around about specialized caves based on biome plus other cave types (like giant open chasms underground) would be fantastic.

I prefer this method than the one in the first post but I'm not sure it's necessary. Technically speaking one could currently just have a cart moving off a track into a portal and then land on a the other side of the portal in the Nether since I think momentum of entities is conserved through Nether Portals. So it would basically be a brief jump and then back on the tracks on the other side (NOTE: I've not tested this).
Not sure you read the OP correctly. It isn't so much a portal rail as it is a teleporter rail. So many quirky applications you could use this for it's sad that people instantly think "oh this would just replace large chunks of a normal rail system."
Think of crazy roller-coaster designs you could create with this. In my current world I have a rail system that cuts through a mineshaft making it ugly now. I would use this to keep my rail system hidden by skipping some of the mineshaft tunnels. (My plan was to clean it up a bit and restore it.)
I once built a maze that you navigated with a mine cart. If I had this type of rail it would have made my designs much more interesting.
One thing I do think needs to be done is to clean up the OP and establish in more detail certain aspects of the rail itself. For example: Is this rail type always "on" or, like a powered rail, does it require a redstone signal to be set as active? Is there a simpler way two of these rails can be connected? (Perhaps you right-click one and a menu opens where you input a 2-digit numeral. Two rails with the same numeral that are within the tolerance distance will be linked to one another.)
I'm just throwing that out there.

They aren't rare. Since the new update is out today I suggest you take a look. The entire underground is littered with these new stone types. Actually because of this, the cobblestone generator might actually be needed.

They should do with guardians what they did with witches, but to a lesser extent. Allow for them to very rarely spawn outside of the water temples in ocean biomes.
Leaving fishing the way it is. It's a nice change of pace when you've been spending most of the day building/mining and you just wanna kick back and relax a little. However that doesn't mean they can't add some sort of extra "particle" to water (small fish animations) that is less frequent than the bubbles. Just so it looks like there is more going on even though the only thing really out there are squid and guardians at temples.
Oct 22, 2013Finally, I never was able to adjust to the newer boat controls. Kinda wish you could make sturdier boats that don't break so easily.Posted in: News
Also, I'd like to think that some of those people asking what the red thing is are just trolling. They can't all be that lazy...
