posted a message on Beehive appearance and minor alterations

Bee nests should use wax blocks, not skeps as their texture. It is a common misconception that bee 'nests', or wild bee hives as it were, are shaped like a spiral or Michelin man. These in fact are representative of skeps, a traditional form of manufactured bee hive before wooden framed hives were popularised.

Natural beehives are generally found in crevices like holes in trees. Naturally, this is not practical in Minecraft. However, beehives are sometimes found hanging from branches, a la the implemented design. These hives are, of course, made from beeswax. The beeswax texture proposed would be perfect for bee 'nests'.

I would even suggest that the manufactured hives be replaced with skeps (and renamed a Skep), using the present texture for a bee nest, albeit with only one hole. Skeps would be made from either sugar cane or wheat, make in a dome-like fashion on a crafting table. Skeps would have to be placed on a block and cannot be suspended. Everything else would remain the same. Otherwise, the present wooden beehive could remain and the skep texture removed.

I feel Mojang has a responsibility to promote accurate knowledge, and given the proliferation of misconception regarding the appearance of beehives, they have a duty to be accurate.

posted a message on An Actual Idea for Owls

No, it won't create any additional difficulty or beget any sadness. The reason why? People will just keep their pets indoors at night when at home. When in the field, people use beds to skip the night, or build shelters. Fighting with animals is not a very practical nor common thing, to be honest. Especially not in forests wherein it is proposed these owls spawn.

posted a message on An Actual Idea for Owls

Given that pets seem to be generally kept indoors, I don't see how much of an effect this would have if owls only snatched away pets. On the other hand, those who keep pets outdoors will be unnecessarily troubled with having to either defend their pets constantly, letting them die, or moving their pets. Thus, we lose in a sense some freedom. It might be better to have owls snatch away chickens or livestock. A flying cow would be far more amusing than your hard-earnt cat or dog flying away.

Currently my goal is to reach Nether Resident, but not reach higher ranks. I say this because I do not like people who do not reach the 2000 posts, and I will try, even if it takes 5 years, to get to Nether Resident, and give an example to the forum

You shouldn't look down on people who haven't 2000 posts. Two thousand is a lot and you can be kind, helpful and contribute to the discussion with only one post to your name.

    posted a message on Painting

I really think people are overestimating how difficult it would be to add in. There already exists a faculty for extracting textures from an on-line source and applying them to blocks, being player heads. I don't see why applying on-line textures to another entity (a painting) would be exceedingly difficult. In any case, I don't see why having them on-line is needed if you could just store the texture in the world data files like any other entity's information. Convert the PNG to a base32 string and there you go. A painting would essentially just be another 16x16 texture and unless you have hundreds of them, they'd hardly take up any space.

Furthermore, paintings are not client-side. Their textures may be client-side but each painting in the world corresponds to a particular rectangle on the painting texture file. That is, a painting 'knows' which painting it is supposed to be, even if the texture is different. A person using the same texture pack as you will always see the same painting.

I would say that the biggest challenge would be how to create the paintings. If I am honest, I feel it would be better to simply create a new GUI when a painting is placed on, say, an armour stand where there might be a 16x16 grid where one could place dyes, in order to create a painting. Even that already has precedence, being essentially a giant crafting table for making more detailed shields.

No, I definitely think this suggestion is not as difficult as some people are making it out to be, and I would welcome any possibility of including custom paintings.

    Quote from Vyryftiis»

I kind of agree. Wolves have a process where they will attack skeletons within their range. They take damage, I have seen a wild wolf chase after and take down a skeleton, but I have also seen a skeleton take out a wolf. So in that regard, I can see the wolf needing a heal from hunt mechanic. Ocelots really do not have any predators, you are correct.

But such an occurance is really quite rare and the player would probably never notice I suppose until perhaps all the wolves have died through attrition. Possibly something easier would be to replace every animal that dies of natural causes, which would also help to reduce the attrition of other stock.

Probably a better and more elegant solution would be to allow sitting anywhere, like some form of shift. I still don't know when you'd need to really turn to night quickly but if that is desired then yes, probably repurposing the bed would be most effective.

Looks fairly nice, but I have some criticisms. The ores look a bit messy to me and simply stuck on. Some more embedding would be good I think.

Make sure you're not putting the texture on the overlay file. The overlay does not get coloured.
