    posted a message on Minecraft is NOT Medieval/Victorian/other: It is multigenre
    What if... Minecraft was what ever the player/server owner wanted it to be and could be played in want ever manner you want to play it in... what a novel idea right.

    People just aren't used to the idea of a game that could be everything and anything, we are used to games of a specific genre, Minecraft is the first successful game of its kind and we feel we need to put it in a specific category, which is innate as we are human. I agree with you in the idea the Minecraft has the ability to be what ever it wants. The vanilla Minecraft is leaning to the fantasy side, as it does have dragons, potions, enchantment, swords and plate armor but this doesn't mean it can't be anything els. Minecraft is anything you want it to be and played how ever you want to play it, anyone who says other wise is stuck in the past of objective based genre specific games (like 99.99% of popular games, the .01% is Minecraft) and is impeding on the game's full potential by filling the heads of people who can't think for themselves with bull.

    There are many people on both sides of the argument but it really doesn't matter since no one can force to play Minecraft a certain way and there are so many different servers that play the game differently. There really is no wrong way to play.

    posted a message on Swords, Rapier, War Hammer and New Bows
    What is this topic about?
    You only need one block to build but that would be boring so we have many blocks to build with. You only need one weapon to kill but thats boring and yet nothing has been done about that.
    My idea to fix this
    Adding a rock-paper-scissor feel to weapons would be a simple fix to our bland sword vs. sword pvp fights.
    Proposed weapons added
    Rapier
    War Hammer
    New Bows
    Sword(changes)
    How they will relate to each other
    Sword>War Hammer>Rapier>Sword
    Bow is no longer whipping boy
    How this all would work out
    Rapier: Its stats would be similar if not the same as a swords but the right click function would be different. Instead of a sustained block it would be a perry that could disarm a blocking opponent while damaging them slightly and if time correctly could block almost any other attack. A critical hit would be the same as a swords but a sprinting attack would not shove a mob/player as far. Time a perry at the right time while an opponent is sprinting at you and they will be diverted to the side and receive no damage but this kind of attack from a war hammer will only result in less through back distance.

    War Hammer: A standard attack would not be as strong as a rapier or sword(you need room to swing a heavy hammer), the war hammer would rely mainly on sprinting and critical hits. The right click would shove the mob/player much farther than a sword. A sprinting attack would be stronger than any other and a critical hit is devastating, because of the condition and skill needed to execute a successful attach this should over power it. If the attacker is sprinting you can deflect the attack with a right click not only sending your attacker back but upwards as well.

    Sword(changed): The sword sharing stats with the rapier is where the similarity ends. A swords block can greatly reduces the damage and minimally reduce the flinging distance of a war hammer. A sprinting attack by a sword would result in a twitch that causes the mob/player to end up facing a completely different direction. A standard attack can still cause the mob/player to twitch in some random direction but not as greatly or as often. It is the only weapon that can sustain a block meaning it can deflect any arrow while your aimed at the front while your crouching but watch out, it might bounce land in you friends back. A block can minimize the damage from mods not including explosions. The sword can block rapier attacks just not a perry. In a fight if you can block a certain number of hits(2-4) your next hit will be a critical hit even with out a sprint but a sprint couldn't make it doubly critical.

    Bows: My original idea of a Quiver, after legitimate arguments against it and my careful revision, was a bad idea. Two additional tiers of bow strength, a recurve and compound-bow. Currently bows are used for sniping and to weaken, I wan to see them as a legitimate and formidable threat. The recurve bow would shoot a faster arrow with less arc and would hit much, much harder than a standard bow but would take a great deal longer to pull back. Like with a real recurve bow if you try to hold a full draw your arm shakes and you loose accuracy, this would imply in Minecraft. The compound-bow would be a short ranged weapon with a quick draw time and stronger than a standard bow and reaches as far as recurve. The recurves critical hit would depend on range. To not over power the bow its' recipe is compounded and resource demanding.

    Idea for recipes
    Rapier:
    :Diamond: :: ::
    :: :Diamond: ::
    :: :: :|:

    War Hammer:
    :Diamond: :Diamond: ::
    :Diamond: :|: ::
    :: :: :|:

    Bows:
    :|: :: ::
    :: :|: :: = Bow arm
    :: :|: ::

    :: :Glass: ::
    :: :Glass: :: = Bow String
    :: :Glass: ::

    :Glass: = String

    :: :Iron: ::
    :Iron: :: :Iron: = Bow Pulley
    :: :Iron: ::

    :: :arrow: :Glass:
    :log: :: :Glass: =Recurve Bow
    :: :arrow: :Glass:

    :Glass: =Bow String
    :arrow: =Bow Arm

    :arrow: :Flint: :Glass:
    :log: :: :Glass: = Compound Bow
    :arrow: :Flint: :Glass:

    :arrow: = Bow Arm
    :Flint: = Bow Pulley
    :Glass: + Bow String

    Sword:
    stays the same

    Even though every weapon is weak to another doesn't mean you will lose the fight, if there is will there is way. Men aren't all brawn you gotta use your brain some times.

    Why compounded recipes? Because their cool and eliminate the need for specialty crafting squares.

    Some my say "Minecraft wasn't designed for hard core pvp, the idea is to build." True but the opposite side of the same coin is that Minecraft can be anything you want it to be. I think that pvp should be expanded, if you can have tens of blocks to build with we should have a few more weapons. Why bother making new weapons if you can enchant a sword? More weapons plus enchantments equal exponentially more combinations. Why not just make this a mod? A mod is kinda like going to a fancy restaurant and adding tabasco to your food, you'er telling the cook you didn't think there food wasn't good enough. To an extent your telling Notch that Minecraft wasn't good enough but since the source is "half-open" modding is slightly encouraged.

    This would only effect PvP on servers. Yes, thats the idea.
    This wouldn't help the game off-line. Just because its there doesn't mean you need to use it.
    But now people need to carry more weapons at anyone time. Fight or Flight, be good with what you got or you can run. Just because you carry one weapon doesn't mean you will lose half the time, there is the human factor involved.
