posted a message on Books as Currency
I hate to raise this thread from the dead, but with the Minecraft version 1.8+ changes to how books are copied I think this info is worth posting here.

In 1.8+ copied books now have "copy of original" and "copy of a copy" on them. This means you can instantly see if the book has been counterfeited. This also means you can use item sorters to accept originals but filter out the counterfeited books. With this, you can make automated bank automated teller machines (ATM). They can give out x amount of currency books for x amount of items or accept currency books and give items. You can even have books with different values and have a machine that can add and subtract to give you change, multiple items, or combine change into larger denominations.

This doesn't need a plugin or mod to make it work since it uses everything Minecraft already has. The only down side is that large item sorting ATM machines are a bit slow and can only process 1 item at a time to have 100% correct output. Spamming tons of items at once can clog them. A more complex machine is needed to prevent this from happening.

posted a message on Show me your EPIC: Part 2
Alright, since no one is posting new stuff, Ill post some new stuff. I havent posted this yet, because I was not posting stuff that I created nearly exclusively in MCEdit.

    This is my giant robot,

Post your best stuff, what you would call “epic” either in size, scale, complexity, or cool-factor!

    Old Alpha Thread: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=95602

    ----

Now that the leaf decay has been fixed, I’ve finally been able to work on and finish my World Tree, Forest, and large Swamp areas. Though, I’m not sure I like the roots for the world tree. I made them so they stick up out of the ground and the blockiness of the Minecraft world doesn’t lend very well to artisticness of bare roots and limbs in smaller design resolutions. I’ve been working on the World Tree for 3 months now.

Here are a few screenshots of what things look like right now (in case you can’t tell, the world tree is that massive trunk and canopy that casts a shadow over everything in a few pics),

I’m currently designing a cathedral. It is taking forever and I‘ve only been working on the vaulted ceilings!

    ----

Here are a few pics of my latest lighthouse. It is meant to be a replica of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, however, I did not make the sides sloped as they should be. My first light house has the sloped sides (which you can see in the Old Alpha Thread link above.) I confess, I got lazy. Sloped sides take a long time to plan out. At least this one won’t burn down like the other one did that one time. lol I may use an editor like MCEdit to move this lighthouse to a better looking location. I was inspired when I built it (because I has soooo many buckets of lava in the Nether at the time), and didn’t explore to find a good location at the time.

posted a message on Share your defences!!
Here are the defenses of one of my bases.

It is named, "Le Chateaux de Cougar", and is motte-&-bailey style castle with an uncommon wet moat (can easily be replaced with a lava moat), earthen ringwork topped with a short palisade, a smooth stone ringwork topped with crenelated parapets that sits upon the motte. Within the stone ringwork is the bailey (full of crops), and of course the keep itself again topped with crenelated parapets (area is lined with trees for harvesting). Both the stone ringwork and bailey have optional machicolations between the corbells through which to pour buckets of lava or shoot arrows. A barbican with similar battlements guards the only surface access to the stone ringworks and bailey via a bridge across the wet moat. Torch light keeps hostile mobs from spawning in the area. A rail system beneath the castle, leading into the sea, allows for safe travel, to and from the castle and other locations at night.

I built the entire bloody thing by hand.

    [edit] corrected some terminology
