posted a message on PC Build $700-750

Hello, my friend wants to build a PC. I used this forum to build a PC and it worked great.

Here is all info. I'd like to get him the most powerful pc for the possible price. He does not need mouse, keyboard, or monitor. We live in United States. OS would probably be Windows 8.1, he would need to buy it. Like I said, budget is $700-750. I would prefer to not go over that too much.

If possible I would like PCPartPicker list that I can link him. Thank you

Hey Syc, long time no speak, again. I don't really play Minecraft or browse this forum much anymore. I just saw the new blocks posted above. They look fantastic as always, keep up the good work. Seems so long ago that I stumbled across this thread and begged to get early access to it. Best of luck on the pack in the future :)

The 380 is on par with the 280X or an hair faster with a couple of new features and lower power usage. 390 and 390X are essentially 290 and 290X respectively and ~5-10% faster due to having slightly higher clock speeds and slightly lower power draw due to improved PCB/power delivery etc.. The 390 is $330 which is actually slightly better than the 290X in terms of value, but the 390X is a complete train wreck like the 980, being priced at $430 while barely beating the 390.

Hmm ok. I was also considering getting the R9 Fury once it releases. I guess I'll just hold off for now. My 280x might be able to handle Fallout 4 on full ultra

Performance wise yes, value for money, pretty arguable. The 290 and 290X are $270-320 and ~25% faster. The 970 is slightly more and between those two. The 980 is $500 and about 45% faster. As said before, the Nano is going to be slightly faster than the 980, but we do not know the pricing yet.

I know they were recently announced so much might not be known about them? But what about the R9 380, 390, and 390x? Are they just rebranded versions of their 200 series counterparts? Or will they actually have increased performance.

Edit: Quoting both above posters. I broke the quotes in this post somehow, lol.

Yes. Crysis 3, Far Cry 4, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Metro 2033/Last Light. I can handle all texture settings on ultra. AA can't be bumped up to max without dropping fps to an unplayable level

    SO i ask again.

Is there a decent upgrade, either from nvidia or amd, from the newly announced cards or even an old card?

Just...don't? Honestly. The GPU market has been sitting essentially dead in the water for the last couple of years, even the 980 ti isn't twice as fast as the 280x. If the Fury Nano isn't going to sell for $450 the amount you're paying seems rather excessive for such an upgrade. As much as I've liked Fallout games, FO4 will probably be a buggy mess that runs poorly and crashes every 30 minutes on launch. Wait for it to come out and see what happens, it doesn't cost you anything, quite the contrary.

Upgrading just for Fallout was a bit of an exaggeration, but I do want to have it upgraded before its release. I also struggle on some newer games when it comes to Anti-Aliasing. I transitioned over to PC gaming to be able to experience better visuals, so I do not want to be limited at all.

So you're saying their is no graphics card that I could upgrade to that would be a significant upgrade over my 280x? How do the new AMD cards stack up against the older counterparts?

I know you want to be ready and all, but I'd wait if you're playing 1080p on one screen. Better GPUs will come out, and in no time the new one you get will become obsolete etc.

Anyways, what would your budget be?

Sorry, should've had that in OP. I do indeed play on a single 1080p monitor and budget is $500-600.

My current setup holds up fairly well, but AA tends to cripple my fps. Being completely honest, I just want to play Fallout 4 on 100% max settings :P

But the upgrade as a whole would be nice too.

Hello all. I am looking to upgrade my GPU for games. My current setup performs well and an upgrade isn't a dire necessity, but I want to do it anyway. Following the recent GPU announcements by AMD, I'm not sure what my best bet is.

    PC Specs:
    - CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
    - Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
    - Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
    - Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
    - Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
    - Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Double Dissipation
    - Case: NZXT Phantom 630 (White)
    - Power Supply: SeaSonic 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
    - Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer
    - Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1

Any advice would be nice! I fear that I may need to upgrade my PSU as well, but we'll see :D

Edit: I play any game that comes out that interests me. Fallout 4 will be installed on my PC the day that it releases. I just wanna be ready for all "next gen" games etc etc.

Also, I play on 1080p and budget is $500-600.

This pack is absolutely fantastic. I've always been looking for something like this. Don't even care if I'm necroing a thread with no activity for a month. I hope work is still being done on this pack. I love it.

Hey Syc, been a while. I just scrolled through the last few pages and saw some of the newer textures, and like always, they look fantastic. Glad to see how much this texture pack has taken off in the last few months. I'm sure it rivals some classic packs like Dokucraft, John Smith, and Sphax is downloads/views. I've recently started playing MC again so I may be a bit more active on the thread like I used to, but I can't be certain. Anyways, I hope life is treating you well and best of luck in all your future endeavors.

I love the pack. Looks great from the screenshots, but I'm unable to download it. Every time I click download on Mediafire, it just reloads the page for me to press download again. It's been doing this for a while now. Are there any alternative download links? If not, I understand. Keep up the good work.

Edit: Tried 3 different browsers, cleared cookies and browsing history. Oh well. It looks really good.
