Firstly, it was Grum who added colored fences, and TheMogMiner who added colored doors.

Secondly, it was a joke, TheMogMiner said as much on Reddit.

That seems very incorrect to me. I run Minecraft on Linux often, and there is no Linux support for Twitch. He should file a bug report and see what happens.

My point still stands; Optifine multicore = laaaagggg, and they already implemented the "improvements" according to this thread (people reporting incredible improvements in chunk loading). And my CPU doesn't support hyperthreading either, so that also stands as well, especially seeing that CPU usage pegs at 100% when I run a snapshot (by comparison, 1.6.4 uses around 50% across both cores, with room to spare on each one). Finally, I was replying to posts about performance improvements, which have already been implemented, at least the multicore chunk loading part; wonder why you didn't tell them off about being off-topic? Hmm.....

Your point doesn't stand at all. As far as the chunk improvement, chunks do indeed load faster, but the order is incorrect. It's not been optimized in the snapshots we have available.

Also, nobody mentioned hyperthreading, or multicore. The new chunk loading is based on multithreading. Like I said, you have no idea what you're talking about. That is still painfully obvious.

Yeah, he must have a $10000 super-PC; for me performance has gone in the opposite direction. In fact, the main reason why I still play in 1.6.4 is because of this (not affected by Optifine or changing settings, only randomly goes away if I leave the game for a few minutes; even odder, the spikes seem to occur after a fixed number of frames, regardless of FPS; artificially lowering it results in the same number of frames between spikes):

Of course, with only a dual-core CPU my computer doesn't have any multithreaded processing power to spare (Optifine's multicore chunk loading option causes lag); two cores is fine for older versions (one thread for server and one for client; trying to use more will conflict with other threads unless there are more cores to use). Also, they recently updated the system requirements, which increased so much that while my computer meets to old recommended requirements (aside from RAM, but 3 GB is far more than enough) but fails to meet most of the new minimum requirements, as I mentioned here (notable also the incredible server lag in Superflat worlds, which should run better than normal worlds).

You have no idea what you're talking about. Multithreading doesn't work the way you think it does.

Secondly, this is discussing the next snapshot. This is even clearly in the "Future Updates" section.

But you went through the pain and finally got a good enchant. When you got that you felt awesome. It's like Dota or LoL in a way, you struggle, but when you succeed, it feels great.

It isn't like Dota or LoL at all. It was completely and totally random before, and that's no way to balance a game. The new system, in my opinion, is much better. It also definitely rewards staying alive more.

This is indeed fantastic. Now, what I'm wondering, is can we used things like this:

    snowy=true": { "model": "grass_snowed" }

on other blocks? For instance, could we make a snowy cobblestone?

I... don't think so. That would be absolutely amazing, though! I'll have to try it a little later on if I get time.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem we can. I just tested it by modifying the cobblestone.json blockstate, and no dice. That would be fantastic, though.

I believe it's changeable within each individual resource pack.

A quick look around seems to indicate that it's done in the blockstate for each individual block. Seems simple enough to undo. I'll have it tested in a minute.

Edit: Oh yea, really easy to remove for those who don't want it. It makes my grass look pretty cool, but I hate it on the sand and stone so I'm super happy that it's optional. It also looks like it can be added to other blocks, though I haven't tested that yet.

Seems the Mojang folks are finally getting that features like this need to be non-mandatory to be really useful to us! HUZZAH! ^_^

I don't see why not. Even if I were the opinion that rabbit meat is bad (and I'm not) I wouldn't have an issue with it. It's just a video game, and there are far more disturbing things in videos games. It seems like a very minor thing.

posted a message on Wow, is 1.7.10 Laggy!
    Quote from Bjossi

Java will never be as fast as C++ though, due to its virtual machine design, even if the difference becomes trivial (which it already has, most likely) and of course the need to routinely run the garbage collector which is a procedure of its own that doesn't exist in the C++ world. Where C++ would "shine" in comparison (in the hands of a good programmer) would be memory efficiency. Garbage collection means a lot of memory is left in use longer than it needs to be, while in C++ you explicitly de-allocate as soon as it's not needed any more, and its runtime environment is also far more minimalistic.

C++ isn't the messiah people make it out to be. Minecraft is a technically demanding game in Java, and it would be a technically demanding game in C++ as well, even if it got a little faster and used slightly less memory.

Though I will say, I have no idea why the launcher process (the 2nd javaw.exe) uses over 200 MBs of memory after I click Play and the game starts up. Is that a result of the -Xms?

-Xms is the initial amount of memory allocated, so if you have that set to 200, then yes.

If it's the launcher, it shouldn't be using that much memory.

    Quote from GreyWolfSC

That's not really true. There are a number of issues that can cause it to lag in Java that wouldn't exist in C++ like garbage collection.

I have seen no difference in performance between 1.7.9 and 1.7.10, though.

Garbage collection doesn't make something lag. Just like memory pointers don't make something lag.

It's how it's programmed that matters. Sure, you could, in theory (with very, very excellent programming) make Minecraft lag a little insiginficant amount in C++ or another language.

It's just not worth it in any way, shape, or form.

    Quote from ORabbit

Well, 1.7.9 lags terrribly for me, and if it lagged any worse the game would outright stop dead. So I'm not seeing much a dif between 1.7.9 and 1.7.10. I just do a couple of perfomance boosting work-arounds on my PC and just deal with it.

They need to devote the next 12 updates to optimizing the game. Seriously. My PC meets Mojang's rec'd reqs and it lags this bad even though there's plenty of free memory and the CPU usage isn't that high. The problem is definitely with the game. Well, with Java too. Becuase Java is horridly slow and it sucks stinky toenails.

That's a myth. The lag has nothing to do with Java. The game would be an extreme resource-hog even in something like C++.

Sure it isn't rushed, but it's been almost a year! And the change-log's bug-fixes are probably going to be useless minor bug fixes that most people don't care about.

In beta, an update would take no longer than a month.

This update is taking an entire year, about as long as minecraft's entire beta stage took. For what? A new silverfish re-skin, 3 new new stone variants, a slime-block, and possibly pointless minor bug fixes that don't make much of a difference? Sure, that's some neat content, but for 10 months of waiting (and counting), thats pretty lame.

This update better have some major bug fixes, and I mean MAJOR! They better have fixed at least few long-standing major bugs, because if they don't, then this was practically an entire year of waiting for nothing.

This update may not be rushed, but it's horribly slow.

7 months isn't terrible. Aside from that, there's a ton of bugfixes, additions, and performance improvements.

    Quote from Lordofdragonss

He talks about homogenus rules. I'm also quite bothered by that. Same withsmelting only some of the ores.

I disagree. He pointed out that mining stone drops cobblestone. (Broken bits of stone.) That is an aspect of realism; breaking a rock does indeed drop pieces of that rock. He also pointed out that it was due to the pick being stone.

Now, as far as homogenus rules goes (fallacies aside), the simplest answer is that it is unreasonable for Mojang to add a cobble variant for the three new stone types if they do not want to. Sure, some people may want them, but others may not (however unreasonable that unwant may be), so it's ultimately up to Mojang.

All of that aside, I would definitely like cobble variants of the new stone types.
