posted a message on How did minecraft get so many sales with no advertising?
I first heard of minecraft through a site that often features indy games and gives them some publicity. Never gave much thought to it. Later I saw this video on the TF2 blog:

I started playing around with creative and eventually bought the game.

Edit: aha... here is the first time I ever heard of Minecraft.

Kinda makes me sad.... I haven't visited that site in a year or so now, and I used to go there all the time...

Free Minecraft giftcode generators are illegal and you should buy the game and not pirate it.

...did you even read the thread?

I know about survey sites. I'm just saying this one in particular looks weird. Also, I have made upwards of $100> on survey sites (through referral programs, I really don't do to many surveys/offers)

Have you tried looking up the company, seeing if there are any reports of suspicious activity by them online?

    thats not true
    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/694885-free-minecraft-gift-codes/
but this site involves surveys and those are annoying. however, i think it is probably real seeing as A: site owner gets paid for surveys and they can use that money to get a giftcode, and B, my other friend Ashley says she got minecraft from it. i am starting to believe it

Oh, a survey site? Many of those are legitimate.
In fact, I've gotten a fifty-dollar gift card from filling out surveys. Took about a year, but, hey, free money.

posted a message on Why Chest Plugins Are Terrible
    oh boy here we go

    1. There is always, always, always, always, the extremely easy and secure method to just hide your chests. Smelt some cobble, go in your mine, put your valuables in there, cover the hole, and walk away a happy man. So, basically, it's not necessary. It's a plugin for lazy and unmotivated players.

    X-ray.
    2. If you need lockette, you should be on a server with people who steal. If there's people who steal on your server, you're probably on a PvP server. If you're on a PvP server, stealing should be allowed and encouraged!

The proposition that people only steal things on PvP servers is ludicrous.
    3. If you're worried about people stealing and absolutely refuse to hide chests

    X-ray
, then build your house/castle/whateverpeoplebuildthesedays 100000000000000 blocks away or whatever distance you silly worriers desire. What's that? Still want to play with others? Only invite the most trusted players to your location. Griefers won't know your location, and even if they do figure out, they will not want to walk for hours to get to you. They'll move on to a more easily griefable server.

    Often impractical.
    4. People put it on their vanilla servers and continue to call it vanilla. Guess what? You just poured chocolate syrup all over that tasty French vanilla. It's not vanilla. There's no such thing as 95% vanilla.

It's impossible to practically run a vanilla server without anti-grief plugins in place, so it's more than likely that a vanilla server already isn't vanilla.
    5. It limits community and cooperation. If you live in a town and Bob needs to borrow something out of your lockette'd chest and you're far away exploring, he has to wait for you to get back so you can get those ender pearls out for him. Yeah, I know you can put multiple names on a chest, but that is inconvenient, limiting, and exclusive.

Only lock what you're sure you'll keep, and items that are liabilities if stolen. Someone needs to borrow your diamonds or TNT? Shucks. If only you hadn't Locketted your chest. Oh, that's right, if you hadn't your diamonds could be stolen and your TNT used for a bombing.
    6. It takes away from the Minecraft experience as a whole. If someone finds a log cabin out in the wild and wants to look what's inside, why the hell shouldn't they be allowed to go through the front door? If they really want to, they can smash their way in. Let them walk through the door. Locking doors has to be the stupidest part of the plugin.

I've seen literally two or three locked doors with the time I've spent on servers with it; I've even seen some servers where you can't use it on doors.
    7. It destroys unused resources. Countless players quit and stop playing on servers. Yet, their chests will remain locked forever, full of great resources that new and active players could use to better themselves. Basically, without lockette, you can recycle. With lockette you have wasteful houses and chests littered throughout the map. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

"Hey admin, could you unlock this chest?"
    "Why?"
"This guy hasn't been on in weeks; he said he'd quit."/"This guy was banned."
    "Sure."
As long as there are half-competent administrators on the server it's no problem; but it should only be done if it's certain they're completely gone.
    8. Another solution is logblock or another similar plugin. With it, admins can see who took what out of chests and when. It serves as a great deterrent and is an easy way to seek out and ban griefers. Yes, it can only happen after a theft, but admins can issue a reimbursement policy if they so wish since they know exactly what was taken. It also helps build a community of respect. No one would risk banishment from the community for theft because they realize the consequences.

They have this on my server.
    Somebody stole TNT and slimeballs.
I didn't notice until long after I'd pushed the theft logs off the list by my own regular actions.

TNT was used for a bombing around the time I realized mine was missing. Ostensibly, mine was used. Had the chest been locked there would have been no bombing, period.

Lockette saves a whole lot of time and a whole lot of headache. Is all of this ridiculous worry about the "Purity if the vanilla" and "taking away from the Minecraft experience" worth bombings and thefts? No.

posted a message on Is this reasonable cheating?
In my opinion, it's cheating if you fix your mistakes/give yourself an advantage. The chunk generation is questionable, but it makes sense. The case of giving yourself lost items I'd consider little more than a bugfix.

    Quote from JTitan

It is cheating. Dying happens, get over it. Close minecraft for the rest of the day, and come back tomorrow. If you had the possiblity to cheat on your real life, (go back in the past, repair mistakes) you wouldn't like it. And it wouldn't be fun. Cheating starts with little things, you're in a cave, alone, you forgot your torches. *Ops*. You open tmi and get 2 stacks of it. Then the next day you're die because a creeper made you fell on lava. *Ops* re-opens tmi and gets the stuff back. Cheating isn't prohibited neither illegal, but playing without it it's more fun. You'll never be fully satisfied, in the end.

None of those examples have any bearing on what occurred to OP.
