I want to give a big thumbs up to him (more like cut it and give it to him but i need it for game time obviously xD) for making this a huge success for kids to experience more fun and less stress in all sorts of situations.
Mac has been fixed twice. Once with snow leopard and once with lion. You are using an unsupported OS. Complain to apple for their development cycle. They are the ones who stopped supporting leopard.
Understandable, I am going to be upgrading my mac anyhow but what about the people who can't? that is what I hate to see. I have bunch of friends who play it and there should be NO reason into anything why Mac Leopards should stop working on minecraft when it worked before. To be honest, it ran smoothly for me which was a big surprise compare to other games it plays.
I mean, come on. I've been waiting a week now and NOTHING. The last problem I had was similar to this, except it was fixed in a day! Why is it taking much longer to make a fix, its better to fix for every platform and version to become playable and getting towards the different ones later. More people we have finding it, the better. So why is jeb or notch not seeing this?
Well im not sure if you're trying to use 1.7.3 mods in 1.8. (i saw "mods" up there) or some other reason?
I didn't particularly explained it clear enough to make a understanding topic.
Like i said earlier. it acted like any normal black screen. able to get to the main menu and everything but i still had trouble with the settings and resulted black screens. entering a game also had the same thing too. mod loader never worked for me because of outdated version i am using to run it where it needed 64 bits capable to use it. so i was thinking it might be the same thing for this update...
All in which i hope they update to fix this because it was fine before until jeb released 1.8
I'm certain a few people are having problems already but I don't want to deal with it anymore, its like having troubles using mods that make your screen go black except this update does it as you go into the game and not as it starts up.
Jeb, fix the mac version. since i can't really do much on the old one, it simply blinks its error in a microsecond and goes black without knowing what it is.
EVERYONE WITH MAC 10.5 (LEOPARD) THE PROBLEM IS THE SOFTWARE AND POSSIBLY WINDOWS TOO!

This is a huge theory that mod loader is running under java 6 which is a 64bit and anybody with a Mac Leopard either needs to upgrade to a Snow Leopard to override its system to run 64bit/Java 6 or get a processor that starts out with a 64bit. In most cases right now, most mods run under 64 bit!
I do not know if anybody has figured this out but anybody with out 64 bit processors are likely faulting to black screening!!! So let this be heard if not already haven't, please!
