Easy access to your world archives:

Simply create a symbolic link to the archive directory in the http root directory, which is normally just used for map images.

In the terminal (linux, not the game terminal), type:
    ln -s /mnt/sda1/minecraft/archive /var/www/httpdocs/archive

Change the first minecraft archive directory to match your own (it may be a different drive, or different if you're using a ramdisk).

Now browse to your server IP (without port 8080), and the archive directory will be listed along with the snapshots directory. Download to your hearts content!

You can do the same for your incremental backup directory if you so desire.

EDIT: You may or may not need to edit /opt/.filetool.lst to include the /var/www/httpdocs directory (and then a sudo filetool.sh -:cool.gif: so changes there are saved in the httpdocs directory upon reboot. I did that early on and have never tried without it so I don't know if it's necessary or not. :smile.gif: Can someone make the symbolic link without editing .filetool.lst, reboot, and see if the link sticks?

The argument is going in circles... I say try it and see if it works. :smile.gif:

But isn't the hackability of diamonds nullified with that server (or was it bukkit?) plugin that stops xray from working? I can't remember where I saw it, but it modifies the server to send all underground ores to the client as stone. The server keeps track of what's actually there though, and changes it back as soon as it's exposed to air. So people can xray all they want but they can't see anything until they actually mine it.

Unless I'm thinking of a different problem, doesn't that solve the issue with diamonds as currency?

i don't want a ****ing plugin that makes all ores into stone, I WANT A ****ING PLUGIN THAT STOPS PEOPLE FROM USING XRAY, are u ****ing stupid READ THE OP.

And I'm saying it's impossible. The client is in the hands of the enemy. They can do anything they want, including lying to the server in any way they choose.

The only way to stop xray is to modify the server, which is not in the hands of the enemy. The ore is not permanently changed to stone, it's just sent that way to the client while it's underground. The server knows what's actually supposed to be ore and changes it back as soon as you dig it up. Nothing is changed except the ability of the client to see ore while it's underground.

The server probably should have been designed like this from the start, but we're in beta and multiplayer protections/optimizations probably haven't really been worked on that much yet.

How about the ability to change the rate at which monsters spawn in SMP? Kind of like difficulty settings in singleplayer but with more fine grained control. For example if creepers have an X percent chance to spawn, I'd like to be able to cut that rate in half, double it, etc.

Added bonus would be to alter the drop rates of the stuff they carry... If I cut the chance for creepers to spawn in half I'd like to double the rate that they can drop gunpowder to make up for it. :smile.gif:

There already is a working server-side anti-xray plugin. What it does is remove every piece of ore in the world that isn't exposed to air. The server keeps track of where the ore was and puts it back as soon as that block is exposed. So you can use xray all you want but there's nothing to see. It's in the main xray thread.

Client-side plugins don't work. If you have to have a client side plugin to play on a server, the server needs to ask the client if it's running the plugin. That message can always be faked.

I'd love to have the ability to alter the spawn rate of hostile mobs on an SMP server... I'd like to be able to increase or decrease the rate that zombies, creepers, etc spawn at. Not to be able to spawn or despawn them via command, it's the automatic spawning rate I'd like to be able to control... Double the chance for zombies to spawn, halve the rate of creepers, etc. An added bonus would be to alter what the mobs drop... If I were to cut the number of creepers in half I'd like to double their gunpowder drop rates to make up for it. :smile.gif:

Howdy all, I've searched around for this, but haven't found anything... It seems like it would be a somewhat common request, so maybe a mod already exists and I just can't find it.

Does anything like this already exist?

posted a message on How to set up your own Local Area Network (LAN) Server
I just figured this out on my own in exactly the way you mentioned, would have been so much faster if I had found this thread first. :smile.gif:

My next issue is custom skins on a LAN server without internet access... Is there any way for people to use their custom skins if the LAN has no net access? Can the skins be placed somewhere locally that the server knows about so it uses them and everyone can see everyone as they expect, or does it only know to look online and we're all stuck looking the same?
