Absolutely love this idea! This post is well explained, includes visuals, explains every proposed concept and is definitely not too far-fetched. If we can create mixed potions in the Too Many Items potions menu, I'm sure Mojang can implement the mixed potions in vanilla Minecraft. I'm not a coding genius or anything but I think this idea is completely feasible. This is also great in the fact that isn't implementing new elements into the game, "just for the sake of it" but actually contributing and building upon what we currently have.
Other than the dead-tree biome in which you suggested, I completely support this idea! It adds a bit more spice and realism; which I personally don't see any real harm from it as long as there are only a few of these dead trees dotted about so as to not spoil the atmosphere given off by the biomes. Regarding the design of these trees, I think a visually pleasing form for this dead tree would be a main tree trunk and leafless branches that extend from it with the wood type matching the biome its located in.
As for the dead bush, I think it should only be found in biomes which (in the context of the real world) the environment is harsh and inhospitable (e.g. desert, mesa, snow etc.).
I've seen around 11 people download this. Once, you guys have settled in the map it really would be appreciated if you could leave some constructive criticism!
Looking for something that's... different I guess?
Well, I present to you,
The story follows that after Minecraftia is subject to an apocalypse of sorts(meteorite), the land is completely flattened in to a dry, desolate and flat land (Super Flat). Minecraftia also stops spinning and its orbit around the Sun slows down lengthening the 365/366 day year, a hundred fold.Only one village of humanity's barely survived. The Sun now stays up for the entire 36500/35600 days resulting in increased difficulty for the crops to grow.
YOU (Steve), the ultimate Minecraftian have been kept alive while mining in the Nether. You return to the Overworld to see that it has been turned into a land of... nothingness even into the midst of the horizon. You luckily and coincidentally spawn next to a village that requires some help from you. The rest is up to you!

Village as seen from the corner of an abandoned building.
The main village street and buildings. The buildings have self supplying water that comes from the occasional polluted rainfall.
The 'Objectives' and 'Welcome' board in which you see as soon as you spawn in the main map.
Whoops I nearly forgot the download!
There is a texturepack included if you wish for a better experience with this map. It is an alternative texturepack that just tweaks with a few default textures to encompass the theme a bit more.
Here are a list of objectives I have come up with. If you have any suggestions for additions of objectives to the list, feel free to add to the list. There will be more objectives to come!
1. Rebuild the destroyed well near the end of the main street. Also raise the water for easy access.
2. Create a farm for carrots, wheat and potatoes.
EXTENSION: Make a giant greenhouse out of glass for pumpkins and melons too.
3. Start a new mine near the outskirts of the village. EXTENSION: Create different branches in the mine to gather different resources.
4. Rebuild the village church out of sandstone including extensions to the main building. EXTENSION: Build a fountain on the opposite side of the road to the church.
5. Try and find a destroyed park where the four default saplings are. EXTENSION: Create an extension to the previously built greenhouse specializing in farming trees.
6. Clear out demolished buildings. EXTENSION: Design your own small sandstone village house and place them over demolition sites.
7. Create a barn for animals to be bred and kept. EXTENSION: Create a separate section purely for the horses and a horse armory
8. Create a public park from the destroyed park for the villagers to play and enjoy natural sights. EXTENSION: Create a road from this park to the fountain, use all types of trees and include benches and play areas (e.g. swings, slides, monkey bars etc.).
Please leave nice comments and YOUR feed back is very welcome!
Well, if you are REALLY desperate, I would recommend installing Too Many Items mod, then when you open your inventory click the 'C' button to change your gamemode. Although, I'm not really sure how to go back into Hardcore

I wish that zombies would only destroy doors in a 'NPC Village Biome'. That would really decrease the worry of being torn to shreds by zombies at night
This wouldn't really be a block but, I would like to see a thin layer of water come out when you break a cactus block so you could gradually fill up a bucket with this 'thin water'.

This Project will NOT be like Tekkit or SpoutCraft, this will be a COMPLETELY new game based off Minecraft.
