Yeah, the list we got was not of MC usernames, but of forum names. It caused a mixup. If you are unable to log in, please contact me and we'll get it rectified.
I already plan on putting up a donation button once everyone gets to start playing.
However, there are mitigating factors that effect the P2P issue besides just paying. Without any real source of revenue, the issue that comes up is that this server will only be limited to about 40-50 players on to cap its bandwidth. We're not even sure about how that cap might effect gameplay. It's just something to look at for the future. Would you rather about 25% of the server population pay $5, or would you rather not pay at all for a lower amount of players.
The only other option besides throwing the hardware into a server bank is to have Hak upgrade his existing connection from a 50 down /10 up to a 100 down / 20 up, which spikes his out of pocket costs from 130 to 380 a month. That would only put us at hosting another 50 players, for another 250 a month. It's not a solution by any stretch of the imagination.
Mmmh, that's about what I imagined. I've found that a good way of doing it is to have a meter on the page saying "we have x much out of y money", this has a tendancy to make people go "oh **** my server's gonna die if I don't do something".
Another idea is money through banners and ads, I guess.
That's actually a good idea. I like the idea of the meter. I'm all about transparency, so it sounds good. Definitely doable!
I can't imagine anyone would have any problems with optional donations, I figure if I start getting money over at the end of the month I'll chip in a bit.

I really mean subscriptions. The issue with donations is the "do once, feel good" syndrome where players will donate once, feel like they have contributed, and then never do it again.
However, if we're ever going to be able to keep a 400+ man server solvent from a business perspective, we're going to need around 60 subscribed members at $5 a month to break even. We can obviously shop around for a server bank that provides less bandwidth to suit out financial and technical needs as they arise, but that's pretty much the endgame for the server. 400+ people on at once.
The server can handle it from a hardware perspective, but bandwidth is another issue due to poor synchronization optimization (we basically stream you the map constantly), as well as my usual gripe about plain old poor code optimization.
IRC should be working, although I'm pretty sure he's hosting it on the same server as the MC server client. That might mean because of the work we're doing on the server, uptime might conflict with something that needs doing.
I don't want to get people to hung up on the concepts I post on the dev blog. They are concepts for a reason. That being said, I don't mind you guys discussing them, and we all appreciate the input.
Finally, and I can't believe this didn't occur to me sooner, if you're looking to communicate with someone from the development side, I'm always available whenever I'm awake to dutifully answer any questions you might have, hear out your ideas, or just be there to talk to about any concerns you might have. I love a good discussion, so I welcome any of you to chat me up!

When he gets back he can just swap anything he doesn't like and that'll fix any mistakes I make that might conflict with his plans. I'll be sending out whitelist applications momentarily, and the server will be online late tonight/early tomorrow to start building.
I like the Vayu designs, and I think that'd add some real flair to the race.

We should stop making ideas and start putting it into action. It's already a monumental task, and new ideas add more work to the pile...
Quite the opposite! The more ideas the better. We arent trying to do everything at once, instead, we are going to release content, lore, etc in a series of stages. Workload isn't an issue!
Also, I was worrying at 1:30 AM tonight, made a blog to show everything that's going on on our end.
Not that this means you specifically, but unless you've gotten a PM saying you're building for the server, don't assume that you're building tomorrow, if the server goes up then. I just quoted you here to draw attention to the fact that people might be making assumptions based on the list of builders that have signed up, located on the first post. That list doesn't confirm that you will be building, only that you are "on the list" to be possibly selected.
Also, cuboid will, in all likelihood, be enabled to help you to build.
I apologize for the confusion. In my haste to finalize some things, I mistyped. What I mean to say is "Don't assume you're a builder without recieving a pm first.". I hope that clears up the confusion.
Now are we getting any cuboid commands? Well tomorrow I plan on having a 100x100 circle in the sky with the bottom looking natural and mountains and lakes. The detail of the island will also be done.I plan on finishing by this weekend and can help others after. Now what I plan on the design is temples on the island with Chinese housing. Just imagine the old asain homes made with bamboo and have beatiful gardens and such. Now who is working on ayu again.
