Sorry, are you talking about yourself? What are your statements based on? If notch was being serious about this, there would be more clariification from him or mojang. Surprisingly, they are not elaborating any further which leads me to think that it might be a joke, given that yogscast is taking quite awhile to respond and notch/mojang keeping quiet about it.
Clearly you have an inflexible mind, capable of looking at things from one point of view and immediately deciding that the choice you picked is the absolute truth(which would mean notch)
Have a great day, hardcore notch fanboy.
Quote from xArchemistx
I think young kiddies can't accept this. They see notch's post and their minds automatically register it to be absolutely truthful. Haha and yes, if notch reads the forums, it would be the ultimate test to see how "kind" the minecraft community is. It'll be interesting to see the epic fail resulting out of this.

That Reddit post was quite... enlightening to say the least.
If MincraftChick was doing such a poor job, I would have been swearing the whole event, and not in a joke kind of way.

just having a sense that, THIS
should be posted out here for everyone to see so people won't just take sides and be mad and angry and stuff before it ends
*****Minecraft is an awesome game with awesomely kind community right? Let's SHOW it to the others then******

The bit in the Reddit post about the organizational aspects falling through and getting changed around sort of resonates with me. I've seen gamer friends IRL start companies, open shops, etc. with no further administrative planning than "hey Joe, you're a nice guy and good with people. Why don't you be our PR department?"
Instead of looking into professional event services and planners, they might hire a friend or dragoon a girlfriend into being the gofer. This is a mistake. They should hire a professional.
And they should be careful which professional service they hire. One based in the US would be best, but perhaps it's easier for them to communicate with someone closer to home. The wrong service might lead them to expect smooth sailing, but let things fall apart at the last moment.
It's really too bad all this had to come up at the inaugural Minecon. Now most people who looked forward to celebrating Minecraft's debut will come away with a bad taste in their mouths. Miscommunication, poor organization, inappropriate language, venal decision-making, lack of professionalism, personality and ego clashes, backbiting, etc.
I can't really take anyone's side, because I'm equally appalled and surprised at the alleged behaviour of all sides. At the end of the day though, I'm going to be playing Minecraft whether or not this gets sorted out in a professional way, or merely scabs over, waiting and festering to erupt again.
Basing a opinion on only half the facts is what fools do, without any conclusive data and response from both party's, no ones opinion is right. Whats even worse is the people choosing sides from witnessing such videos with out knowing all the facts.
Edit: btw is your name a reference to the elder scrolls oblivion O:?
again 7 minutes in as a example he gives options based on his opinions and uses "i think" through out the video
That was the most pointless 23 minutes of my life. He pointed out everything we already know, and to top it off its mainly his opinion not the actual story : :mellow.gif:
7 Minutes in: completely wrong that gesture of that nod doesn't at all mean what that idiot said. Who ever made this video needs to be shot.

The Yogscast aren't even claiming to have introduced Minecraft to the world, but I don't know why everyone is denying that they've had Minecraft videos on the front page of Youtube for the entirety of this year. Yogscast was around before Minecraft and when it dies due to Notch's inability to run a company to store everyone's data on a server the Yogscast will continue to exist.
It really annoys me when these Notch fanboys think they're cool by hating on people they have 'never heard of', despite being on the front page of youtube for the whole of this year, and agreeing completely with Notch even though he hasn't even made an official statement. It's pathetic, it's childish, it undermines Notch's claim that Minecraft 'is about friendship and kindness' all I've seen on this forum is hate, biased hate based on vague tweets and what some random thought they saw/heard at MineCon.

Youll notice that I made a point of saying "If this is true". Yanked around may not, and likely does not, imply the panel time. If you thought into it you would realize that there are a great many other things that have to be done when at a convention, not just a panel.
In terms of money, perhaps I was being a little too emphatic over being forced, but if you read the entire post and didnt simply stop at the first thing you could argue with, you would have seen just how much it must have cost them. Only two tickets were free, IF they got a booth. 8 people went. IF they didnt have a booth, then it was 800 dollars. If they DID have a booth, then it would have been around 1600. Now think about how much room and board was. The cheapest hotels in Vegas are not exactly cheap. I dont know where they stayed, but when my father stayed there for three nights in a cheap hotel, it cost him 200 dollars a night. So, if there were 8 people for three days, thats yes another 4800 dollars. Also, think of the plane tickets as well. I flew from my current state back to my home state, and it took me 200 dollars, three months in advance. Depending on when they bought their tickets, thats another 1600, or more.
So, right off the bat, they could have paid anything from between 7400 dollars to 8000 dollars, and thats going on the low side. Thats a lot of money to spend just to have yourself yanked around by a woman who doesnt know what shes doing, and to be forced by IGN to not actually discuss minecraft on video, under what I assume was risk of lawsuit, and god only know how much that might have cost them.
I dont know about you, but if that were the case, I think I would have good reason to be pissed off about that.

Why was my comment removed? We're not allowed to express our opinion on this? The textures look like crap and it shouldn't have won imo. There were far better texture packs in the contest.

Yes, there may be better creations, but I doubt "Building a computer" Is an helpful hint also. I personally find this a little helpful and usefull, like if you want a secret base. (Cant helpful Hints be tutorials too?)
Sure he may not have been the first, or theres others, but its still pretty cool nevertheless.
Oh btw, there are millions of usernames are better then yours.

Not everyone is a modder.
Not everyone is adept enough at redstone to understand the more complex and smoother creations
Just because you saw it, doesn't mean everyone has (I haven't)
And god damnit, a tutorial is a tutorial, it doesn't matter. It's a 'helpful hint' because it's showing, step by step, on how to make a redstone staircase, which can lead into secret rooms or passages to hide valuables from other players or unfortunate events. So yes, to me, this is a helpful hint.
This is a public area, so I won't bash you for saying what you said. But I will say that you were a bit... Narrow-minded in your comment.

Are you serious Bethesda?! There are many games that also include 'Scrolls'. It's pretty stupid, why would you sue MineCraft for that....
Quote from MacPeaches
I enjoy the Elder Scrolls games but this kinda changes the way I look at Bethesda.

Wow, there's so much hyperbole and talking without knowing all the facts here. I read the kotaku post and all it gave me was a snippet of the alleged trademark and a lot of unnecessary vitriol toward notch. These things are easy to take out of context and I would really like to be able to see the whole thing before making any judgments on it.
However, for my own biased opinion, I prefer Mojang. I played Morrowwind and it kinda sucked. I also played Oblivion and it was sort of better, I guess. The Bethesda games I've played are nothing to write home about. I would choose Minecraft over Skyrim any day simply for the fact I'll get a lot more mileage out of it.
The excuse that Bethesda "has" to protect its own ass due to enforcing its own branding seems more of an argument against the trademark system than Mojang. Words...sheesh.
Protip: get the whole story before claiming anathema on anyone.

What some maby not realize is that this dragon he made is probably not with any 3d schematic thing like the other dragon posted on the reply's here. It's obvious to me that that one was made with a 3d program which imo is not impressive at all.
Entertainment services in the form of electronic, computer and video games provided by means of the Internet and other remote communications device; internet games (non downloadable); organising of games; games (not downloadable) played via a global computer network; education and entertainment services in the form of cinematographic, televisual, digital and motion picture films, radio and television programs and shows; preparation, editing and production of cinematographic, televisual, digital and motion picture films, radio and television programs; entertainment services in the form of electronic, computer and video games provided by means of the Internet, mobile telephone and other remote communications device.
In other words, Mojang intends to own the word "scrolls" in pretty much every form of visual entertainment media, not just in videogames. This means that, if the trademark is upheld, the company could rightly take action against anyone else using the word "scrolls" in any form of media whatsoever. Now, that would only be a problem if you were a successful media company planning to use the word "scrolls" in some form of entrainment media … Oh wait … that's right. If you're Zenimax, this trademark ****s you. Hard.
The section applying for trademarks on the use of the word "scrolls" in videogames is similarly broad (and potentially harmful to Zeni), covering:
Computer games; video games; computer software; computer and video games software; computer software downloaded or downloadable; computer software publications downloaded; interactive entertainment software; data recorded electronically from the Internet; data recorded in machine readable form from the Internet; discs, tapes, cartridges, CD-ROMs and other magnetic, electronic or optical media, all bearing computer games software or video games; electronic amusement apparatus for use with television receivers; electronic games apparatus; home video game machines.
The examining attorney refuses registration under Trademark Act Section 2(d), 15 U.S.C. §1052(d), because the applicant's mark ... so resembles the marks in U.S. Registration Nos. 2634683, 2861127, 3375520, 3421731 and 3584564 (THE ELDER SCROLLS) and 4010219 (SCROLLS) as to be likely to cause confusion, to cause mistake, or to deceive. ... Regarding the THE ELDER SCROLLS marks, the applicant has merely deleted the term ELDER from the registered mark. The mere deletion of wording from a registered mark may not be sufficient to overcome a likelihood of confusion.

Or when somebody concisely explains what the hells going on, all the first post says is *they are sueing them for using the scrolls name and they wanted to play quake*. Then people like you say *why do people post*. Is there something he's entirely not said? and if so why do you expect people to read all 14 pages before responding? perhaps you should make another thread with all the details
Quote from mh_mini
I wasn't aware that Mojang was trying to trademark the word scrolls across all fields of media at the time of the post. Probly going to be looking more in depth. So far all of the info I've managed to get is from the minecraft forums and there *might* be some bias here. An outside resource with complete details of the lawsuit would be helpful.
Quote from WarBarney
While I do feel its stupid of them to sue them for naming a game *scroll* (unless ofc everything in the game is a replica of the elder scroll games as well and theres no reason to call it scroll at all except that they saw that name) I think notch should have taken it more seriously than challenging them to a game of quake 3... seriously dude law suits are serious and could destroy minecraft if they succeed, don't take the **** out of it

if i recall, daggerfall isnt bethesdas. its a very old game, that most certainly predates bethesda. i cant remember correctly, but if i had to guess, it would be interplays game, since thats where bethesda originated from.
you would think that the entire Elder Scrolls series would have been shipped over to Black Isle (also spun off of interplay), since thats more down their lane than it was bethesdas.
They might have been able to get the names though, its hard to tell, since alot of copyrights were lost when interplay died out completely.
Bethesda Softworks has been a developer and publisher of interactive entertainment content for over two decades. Founded in 1986 by Christopher Weaver in Bethesda, Maryland and moved to Rockville, Maryland in 1990, the company has a long history of PC and console games. In 1998, Weaver decided to expand the company beyond PC games and into multimedia and invited Robert A. Altman to help manage the budding company. Weaver and Altman co-founded ZeniMax Media Inc. in 1999.
it essentially said the Bethesda bought ALL rights to the
"Fallout" name and all materials, and Interplay had given up all
So it's Interplay who is trying to get money out of "Fallout" that
Bethesda is making out of newer (Bethesda branded) releases of Fallout

@Wej00 @notch I think hee tried to do a thing, got called on it over something he potentially didn't realize, & is playing victim.

@ That would be twice now you've linked me to a tumblr post with nothing backing it up.

@notch Can't believe you're going through with this lawsuit, Notch. Get off your high horse and change the name of your game.
notch Markus Persson

@notch Because you're acting like a 12 year old troll who has no idea what he's got himself into making bomb threats on 4chan.
@Aprime You seem to be misinformed.
Aprime Alexandre Potvin
@notch That would be correct to some extent, as I've been getting all my information regarding that lawsuit of yours from you until today.
chrislamb Chris Lamb
@Wej00 @notch They don't care if "scrolls" is in the name of your game. They care if you want to trademark the word.
@chrislamb @Wej00 Then why wouldn't they accept us dropping the trademark?
@notch @Wej00 Again, what do you have that says you offered, other than a tumblr post?

In translation: Notch is working on secret project NOT RELATED to Minecraft, and he will be getting back working on Minecraft next week. That's when he want to implement his ideas which he already have in head while working on something separate, Which means even though He Isn't working on Minecraft right now, he already thinks about things he like to do in to it.
