@ gemstones: don't get rid of the current diamond.
@ stained glass: only if one gem = a full STACK of glass stained
@ transmitters: cool, but another solution would be mirrors/laser/solar panel - which would solve some lighting and engineering difficulties.
You can't turn mirrors on/off. The point of redstone is to transmit information. You can't transmit information in base 1. There's a reason that computers use binary and not monary.
1&2: Been suggested.
3: Stick with this, but not gems, use iron/gold/diamond/lapis(maybe).
Just my advice.
Parts of this HAVE been suggested, but other parts haven't. Also, these good gem ideas deserve to be placed in the same thread because they go together and they are all arguments for implementing gems.

Thanks a ton for reading this guys! Please comment and post any questions you may have regarding the idea!
you're welcome, but the assumption that everyone will read all that is a big one at best, and a huge pulsating mound at worst.
I would like this, but this has already had the nether suggested out of it, and frankly, rading all that made me tired.
Are you really too lazy to read a little over 1 page of spaced out writing? You poor little boy. How are you going to get through college if you get tired reading this little post?
When I first saw this I thought, "Oh boy, another gemstone idiot". When I read it though, I realized that there are actually some original ideas here.
When I make complicated redstone circuits and want to fit them into a small space, I have to make awkward tunnels and bridges so the redstone wires don't cross. These would fix that!
Also, making cross country redstone lines wouldn't be so painful or expensive anymore.
Stained glass has been suggested manny times, but I think he is justified in posting it here. It would be great for decorations! (As well as gemblocks)
Basically what I'm saying is that the Build Block is the missing piece of the puzzle. I'm sorry if I hijacked your post, but I just felt that you were missing that little bit.
Well, iron can effect the monster. That's why it would drop iron. And diamond swords are pretty much "HA YAH HA HO" and they're dead, without a scratch on yourself. If you pile up on diamond swords, then you're pretty much not gonna die by mobs. So there should be a mob that ISN'T affected by diamonds... and it would look like a zombie, just dark-greenish purplish.
There is a very good reason that diamond equipment is so good. Diamonds are hard to find, and you need steel or better to mine them. You can't "pile up" on diamond swords because you would need to spend a lot of time mining. Making a mob that is immune to diamond swords would just undermine diamonds' power. If you are playing with mods that give you infinite diamonds, then that's you problem and you shouldn't project your problems on those players that play it the way it was made.
Intreresting, but I don't like the mining beam. I sounds to over powed.
Yes, definitely.
If you were to use it as a mining laser in the ground, it would get caught on redstone ore, diamond ore, maybe even coal, which it couldn't burn through. This would allow it to be used for cobblestone factories but not for actual mining. Plus, like I said, it would be VERY slow. You'd be better off mining with a stone pickaxe...
It would be okay as long as it didn't destroy stone either. That way people couldn't use it to do the tedious digging, then go and just get the ore themselves. If it was only used for cobblestone then you couldn't do that and it would alright. I suppose it could be used to destroy various other materials found above ground as well. Not dirt though. Or sand.
You could use it to light wood and leaves and other stuff on fire, but lighting mobs on fire is different and over powered.
It's a very good idea, but it needs some work. First of all, could you give us a more complete description of what it would look like?
Making it be able to break glass is an original idea, but I'm not sure I want a smart AI and the ability to break blocks in the same mob. I suggest you leave the block breaking to a different new mob.
I also suggest that the mob make no sounds. Otherwise, people would hear it coming, take a look around, and it would run away.
Why would it drop iron ingots? I think it should drop something else, but I'm not sure what.
And why would diamond not affect it? That's just unneeded and it doesn't make any sense.
I would just leave it as a mob with a better AI than the others, and that follows you, and will search for ways to get in your house instead of just waiting at the door like a good little monster.

You have my support!

is a crafting table.
Trapdoors and grappling hooks have been suggested way too many times already. Use search.

I like the build block. The break block has a much more intuitive option: the drill. Before you cry out in rage, go here:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=292747
It's less overpowered than you think.
There is a potential for a new system in Minecraft to switch blocks between item and block form.
Dispenser
Piston
Crate
Drill
Build Block
These 5 tools all help do this.
For my explanation of the crate:
