Your IP address changed because most ISPs don't allow static IP addresses for standard home internet services. I recommend you use something like DYNDNS so you don't need to issue new IP addresses to your players.

Are you sure you are using you internal IP address for port forwarding? You can find your internal IP address by opening "cmd.exe" and typing "ipconfig /all". Your internal address will show up like:

    IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.xxx.x.xx(Preferred)

Also, is there a free option for dyndns? All I see on their website are options that are paid.

Is there maybe another site that's free?

The information above "Tunnel Adapter" looks like Hamachi. It should be above that, scroll up.

Oh wow, I feel so stupid.

The whole time I didn't release it, I was scrolled down.

Wow, thanks lol, I'll test if it works on report back.

posted a message on My IP Changed Overnight..?
So I went to start up my server that a few friends and I are building, when They said they couldnt connect.

I went to check my IP address which was once 10.1.10.## This is what was port forwarded, and they could connect to the server.

My new Ipv4 address is now: 5.2#3.##6.7# I replaced the numbers with number signs so no one has my actual IP.

So I tried to port forward that number but I get this message: Server IP Isn't In LAN IP address subnet!

I've never had this problem before, My IP seemed to change sometimes before like once a month so I would just then change the forwarded port to what it changed to. It's stayed with 10.1.10.## only the last 2 numbers would change.

Anyone know how I can get my server port forwarded again?

posted a message on Does Your Server Need A Moderator?
As you can infer by the title of this post, I am looking to become a Moderator on a server. I've owned 3 servers in the past that were successful, and had a good amount of active players, 20-40, that enjoyed playing. I have experience with bukkit and how server's work, as well as many types of server and common rules. With school, sports, and other real life things, I am unable to keep up with my server as they grow, I've decided I am just going to look into becoming a moderator for a server rather than own a server myself.

I am very active, I can get on every day, not only do I enjoy helping players out, solving problems, and answering others question, I also really enjoy the game. I am friendly and nice, but under certain situations as a moderator if I need to be serious I am.

I am looking for a server that isn't really New, and where the server is fairly popular, preferably around 20-50 active players. If you're interested in getting to know more about me, or possibly want to have me as a moderator on your server please reply to this post, leave me a private message, or the best way would be to send me messages on skype, my skype is Laxhaak

    Thanks!

It is not your PC that is locked, but your upload speed. Your internet plan is simply not enough for more than that.

This is why most people for servers that have over 10 people use a hosting service.

On average, how much would it cost be to get my server hosted for maybe 60 slots?

No there is no way to increase speeds other than getting a better internet plan.

Better internet is not available in all areas. You are pretty much stuck with what you have. This is why most people use a hosting company of some sort.

You would need to check if better internet such as FiOS is available in your area, or do further research.

And Is it true my PC is sort of locked in to 36 people?

When I had 4 gigs of ram I found minecraft unplayable if I played on the same computer I ran the server on, with just 1 other play besides myself connecting. Of course, this was with the tekkit mod pack which uses much more ram than the average minecraft game.

I'm not an expert on minecraft servers but I think ram is the most important component.

BTW, you cannot rely on speed tests to determine your comcast connection speed if your comcast is using power boost. Comcast does this thing called "power boost" where they boost your speed for the first ~2 minutes or so of a download and upload. This is so the average user who only downloads every now and then, and people running speed tests, will see amazing 25mbps+ speeds. But over extended use it will gradually drop to your "true" speed, which is probably less than half the power boosted speed.

I am 16, so I don't pay for the internet, but I was tlaking with my Dad, and he said just last month be bought the fastest spee dpossible from comcast.

Is there a way to increase my upload speed? And how come some servers can hold about 100 players, what kind of internet are they using besides the fastest available from comcast?

You internet will be maxed out with ~36 players at one time, depending on what OS is on the server you are using you can bump the ram up to 4GB.

Wait what? So its its very laggy and not very laggy?

36 players max.. really? What is preventing more? Im on Windows 7

The server overall is not laggy, besides mobs, they lag pretty bad.

If its only using download bandwidth then it should not cause a major issue. How many players is your server set to currently?

Maximum of 25 players on at once. At around 10 players monsterns lag and there is a little lag here an there.
3 GB Ram Deticated to the server, but when I do /memory it never really reaches the limit, unless like 20 people are online doing a ton of stuff.

When I upgrade my PC I will have like a 3.3 GHz intel processor, a solid new Motherboard, and about 8 GB og RAM, maybe 5-6 deticated to the server.

Could you post you internet speed from http://www.speedtest.net/, no point upgrading if your internet speed can't handle it.

Would having 6 browser tabs open, itunes, steam, and my server running affect the speeds?

Servers will wear SSDs out fairly fast if say its a Minecraft server or such, the constant reading and writing it does. As well you will not really see a performance difference if a game server.

Would I see a different and would I be able to host more players If I upgrade my Motherboard, processor, and RAM?

My MB, Processor, and RAM suck right now, 2.2GHz, and 5GB ram
