Who in their right mind even plays this game with default textures when it's so easy to use better ones?

Well I play with the default textures and as far as I know, I haven't lost my mind yet. :P

I just have a thing against third party resources, so I don't use texture packs nor any mods.

posted a message on What has been the most stupidest way you have died on Minecraft?

My stupidest death so far was when I just got my elytra and wanted to test it out by jumping off a cliff in an amplified world in a jungle. By the time I realised that I was playing on a server with bad connection, it was already too late and I watched myself plummet to death. I forgot to turn on the debug screen, so I couldn't find my items back. Bummer.

My second stupidest death was in the nether. I was riding a boat over an ice road in a tunnel just under the nether ceiling. Somebody removed one of the ice blocks so I got stuck halfway in the tunnel. I step out of the boat to place it back on the ice, only to glitch through the boat, through the floor into a big lava ocean. Now I had fully enchanted diamond armour with one piece with fire protection 4, so I had some time to swim back to the land. I landed right next to an Island, so I thought I was lucky and I mined away some blocks to create a space to get out of the lava. however, as I mine, I find out that the entire island was floating right above the lava, so I couldn't use it to escape. I swim across where there's another big landmass, just to find out that that landmass was also floating right above the lava. I still kept mining though, because it was my last chance and I fortunately found some land to escape the lava. I dug myself some space inside this landmass and I could only wait for the fire to burn me up and I died along the shore. This time I did have my debug screen enabled though, so I could find back my stuff.

posted a message on So what do you guys think about the new 1.14 textures?

From what I remember, they decided to change the textures to deal with an inconsistent art style. The game and the team have both developed and changed a lot over time, but the textures haven't changed with it.

For those who do not like them, 1.14 gets a texture pack called "programmer art" which contains the old textures.

I personally find it quite refreshing that they're redoing all the textures, so I'm not bothered.

From what I know, it has been like this at least since 1.8, but don't quote me on that.

that's correct! I haven't found any code that suggests that there is a limit on the amount of doors, or the radius of a village.

Notice though that if you load/unload the area, the village might start shifting as certain houses are no longer loaded and therefore no longer are part of a village. I'm not very familiar with loading and unloading of chunks, so I'm not sure how that exactly works.

Or if it is more than 66 blocks from the village center!

This is not quite how it works. If a village has a radius that's bigger than 32, then a door has to be even farther from the center than 66 blocks, but always 32 blocks from the border. The distance is always: radius + 33.

Iron farms like the iron phoenix make use of this mechanic. It overlaps one enormous village over the existing villages such that only the border of that enormous village is close enough to a particular set of doors.

There's some more nuance to this than the wiki makes it seem.

The 65 is a rule of thumb, which works in most cases, but not always.

When a house is detected by a villager, the house has to be assigned to a village. The chosen village is the one with the center closest to the door. However, if all the villages are too far away from the door, then the door will instead create its own village.

A village is too far away if the border of the village is more than 32 blocks away from the door.

A more general rule would be: If the door created a new village and the border would overlap another village, then it will be added to that village. If the border does not overlap another village, then the door remains in its own village.

Detecting a house works as follows:

Approximately every 4 seconds, a villager will attempt to detect houses. It does that as follows:

First find all the doors within a 16x8(?)x16 box.

Then test for each door if it is a valid house.
If the house is valid, add it to a village if it's not in a village already.

A village is basically a center and a radius. A sphere in the world, you could say. This sphere has the following properties:

    • All the doors that belong to the village are inside this sphere
    • The center of the sphere is the mean average of all doors that belong to the village.
    • The radius of the village is at least 32, but will be larger if the farthest door is more than 32 blocks away from the center.

A door/house will be detected by villagers that are up to 16 blocks away. This detection process happens approximately every 4 seconds for each villager.

A door/house will be removed from your village if it has not been detected by a villager for more than a minute.

Since villagers move around a lot through your village, every house will most likely stay in your village, but there can be circumstances in which some houses no longer become part of your village, but usually that gets resolved by itself.

There is no limit to the amount of villagers in a village, but if the amount of villagers exceeds the doorcount x 0.35, then the villagers will not breed to make new villagers.

I hope this cleared everything up for you. I'll happily answer any more questions you have.

If banner creation gets its own separate crafting system, shouldn't firework stars get a similar treatment? Just for consistency. I wouldn't mind getting a firework builder block (with a fancier name) that shows a preview of what a firework star would look like.
