I'm all for seemingly endless caves... But not EVERYWHERE. I should be able to dig a 3x3 staircase to bedrock without hitting 5 caves. They should be made less common.

Short describtion of yourself (e.g. mc related skills): I am a semi-skilled CC enthusiast, and I saw that you are looking for people skilled in CC, and I wanted a new challenge so I figured I'd apply.

At the very least, make it not render that dumb resource hog when it's not even visible (Multiplayer page, world select, etc.). I have a 3.6GHz quad core, and when I am at the title screen core 0 shoots straight up to about 95% CPU usage. The ingame graphics themselves only use maybe 50% tops. This abomination needs to either be hugely improved or have an option to turn it off.

I'd like to reiterate what I said before and on the front page. Please don't message me about being whitelisted. It doesn't get you whitelisted any faster, and it annoys me. I say on the front page sending me messages about it will result in a denied whitelist application. I've been lenient so far, but it's starting to get annoying. So please don't.

Xander do you have a list of people to whitelist? I can just paste it into the file if you still can't get on.

Clearly it will be Minecraft. I just hope he plays long enough to get to night, and screams while dying to monsters. But that would take like 10 minutes wouldn't it? Maybe they could do that and edit it...

I just fear he will punch a few things for a few minutes, accomplish nothing and make the game look un-fun.

Their a good way to get recources, and a good way for lava to swallow them up later.

I don't know why, but there are way way way too many caves. I don't recall there being this many before 1.8. I like exploring caves, and it's cool to navigate the enormous mineshafts. But only to a certain point. After spending hours and hours in a seemingly endless cave system, it just gets boring and repetitive. Now you might say "If you're bored with the cave, just leave". But the thing is, if I see a new area of a cave that I haven't explored yet, I can't rest until I've gone in and lit the whole thing up, and taken all the ores out of it. It's kind of like OCD, I just can't let it go.

The cave system that I've been in since I started this world 3 days ago is just way too big. I dug a staircase mine type thing for a bit, just to collect a few ores to get me started. Within about 5-10 minutes I found my self in a cave system. 3 days later, I'm still in the cave system. I've seen about 3 ravines, destroyed 2 cave spider spawners, gotten lost in 2 different abandoned mineshafts and maybe 20 different caverns. I have half a chest full of coal, and the other half is iron, gold and a few diamonds.

IT NEVER ENDS. I once dug into a coal vein, and there happened to be yet another cave system on the other side of it, which is just as vast as the one I'm in already. It's getting ridiculous.

How does it make the game too easy? Well, I can just walk around or dig for 10 minutes, find a cave system, and walk out 10 minutes later with a stack of iron and 3 stacks of coal. There's no point in mining anymore, and in fact, mining would just be disrupted because you would hit caves every few minutes. Caves and ravines aren't special anymore, they're just annoying now. I look in my chest of coal and iron, and it just feels wrong. I'm not proud of having so much resources, because it doesn't feel like I actually worked for them. All I did was accidentally find a cave, and now I have more resources than I'll ever need.

So what can I do with all this iron? Making minecart tracks is useless... All I have to do is go down into the cave system and break the tracks in the mineshaft. So that's not an option.

One cave leads to a mineshaft. The mineshaft leads to a ravine and a few other caves, the ravine leads to even more caves and another mineshaft which leads to more caves and another ravine, and all these caves lead to more caves, and more ravines, and more mineshafts which lead to more and more.

I would be exaggerating if I said it was gamebreaking, because the game is definitely still playable. But this is still a fundamental problem with the game. A game should NOT be in a state where a player can get a full set of armor, tools and weapons of the second-highest tier within 20 minutes. That isn't good balance. I'm not exaggerating about 20 minutes, either.

Every time I climb down my staircase and go into the vast cave system, I will walk out with at least 3 stacks of coal and at least 1.5 stacks of iron. And it doesn't even take that long. It takes longer once you've explored most of the area around your point of entrance. But when you first enter a cave, you can leave with ridiculous amounts of high-level resources in 20 minutes tops.

What do you think about the abundance of caves?

Agreed, cave generation is rediculous now and definitly needs reduced a bit.
I think if they moved sea level to 96 instead of 64 and didn't increase the amount of caves generating it would help a bit.

I like the idea of combining a torch and a lever to make a secret lever- looks exactly like a regular torch but right clicking it makes it turn upside down and output a signal just like a regular lever. Couldn't be placed flat on top of a block, only sides.

Also pressureplates on walls.

And for awhile I've been wanting to be able to do something similar to frames in RP2, to allow for pistons to move blocks that aren't right in front of them, but are mechanically connected. The biggest issue I see with this is implementing it right, because I'm having difficulty figuring out just how it ought to look, and how you should be able to distinguish between blocks that are stuck together and ones that aren't. As far as the basics of the idea, I like just right clicking with a slimeball to place it on any block face with the same texture as in the center of sticky piston heads, and then placing a block against that would occupy the space of the slime and the two blocks would be linked, so when one gets pushed the other also moves and is added to the 12 block push limit.

Speaking of the push limit, I think that we ought to be able to make pistons with the iron ingot replaced with gold to make one that pushes 15 blocks, or with a diamond to push 20 blocks. Would allow for several things, namely larger sand doors and whatnot, as well as allowing creativity to blossom with the slimeball idea. One type of data storage I've seen before is a piston tape that pushes pistons around it- Depending on which of four directions the piston is facing it represented a different value. With more piston variations, this would mean that up to 12 different states can exist within such a system, if you measure for different levels of strength as well as direction. It would also be pretty balanced in regards to survival, because as it is pistons are extremely easy to get with the abundance of iron, and the increase in tech requires an equally large stash of diamonds or gold.

Personally, I'd like to see a precise light meter added to the game. Ideally it would be something that senses the light level in its square, then powers a wire at that power level. So light level four would cause it to generate a charge that travels four spaces. There are 15 different light levels and 15 different power levels of redstone wire so it almost seems predestined.

That mainly excites me because it would make it possible to use light as a way of transmitting data. You could move light sources around, block them, and dim them with water/ice/glass, in order to modulate the brightness level and adjust the signal.
