posted a message on Will Minecraft Run On This Computer?

I've got a 27 inch iMac and it's fantastic. It's much better than the PC I built for the same price. Using the best I could get from NewEgglast year I built a windows PC, it bual boots XP and Win7 and it's crap compared to this piece of apple engineering. Plus the display is epic on this monster. of course, my iMac is a lot better than the one you posted specs on so I'm guessing Matt was commenting on that. I hope at least.
I'd say that's more likely to be your fault than anything, honestly. Either you way overpaid, you picked the wrong parts, or just did something wrong.

It will run, I don't know how well. But do yourself a favor... Don't even THINK about buying an imac. Those are specs I'd expect from a 2004 computer. Buy a PC, save tons of money and get a better computer. Though it would help to know much you're thinking of paying for that.

The problem with VP for items is that through the use of tekkit (im looking at you EE) all items in the game are absolutely worthless by late game. There are individuals who can pump out Red Matter in a matter of minutes, if not seconds, through energy collectors that they created by using energy collectors.

When I was on the old server, someone literally gave me 9 RM Furnaces, worth 8u383781347619431298310498109 EMC each, i went from a single dark matter to a full MK3 Relay in an instant.

So eventually (after a week) there is no incentive for any player to vote.

By allowing a player to obtain normally impossible items (mob spawners) or things like protection privelage, the VP can be used much better. (Idk if this works with sponges, but they are useless).
    Basically what he said.

I won't be doing a "vote for x days straight" thing because those **** me off. It'll be simple. You vote, you get x amount of y currency.

May I suggest practicing your voting now so that you're ready when I do add it? ;)

Also if anybody knows how to contact PikaXed I need him to help me get the minestatus page transferred to me.

i dont think iconomy is required for votifier i think you can run any command you want so you can just give evryine who votes a gold bar or something
True, but it takes very little time for a gold bar or even a diamond to become entirely irrelevant in EE. I think I want to have a system where you get money from voting and only from voting, and it can be spent on things like mob spawners, sponges, maybe area protections, etc. So it has enough meaning that people will vote regularly, but not enough to really give a person a huge advantage for doing so. (Giving somebody a Dark Matter for example would catapult them ahead hugely early on while still having almost no meaning later.)

Physically, the server is fine. However it's possible something more than the map was corrupted when the power went out. I'll look into it

If I add a donate button, there will be ingame rewards for donating as well. Votifier is also a possibility, but first I'd have to add iConomy or something similar, I believe.

Yes, any old desktop will work fine as a minecraft server, I did it for months before I acquired an actual server. Just be aware the hard drive life of a desktop is a fraction of that of a server, especially when it's running minecraft 24/7. Keep backups of anything you don't want to lose.

Bad news everybody. The power went out at my house and it appears the map was corrupted. I am putting up a blank map until I have time to thoroughly inspect the damage, but at this point it's best to assume total map loss. If I am able to recover it, consider it a bonus.

I think I will get a paypal and put up a donate button, and maybe (though I doubt it) somebody will throw a few pennies my way that I can invest in either a UPS or a new server. Power outages are rare in my neighborhood, but it majorly sucks when they happen to servers.

EDIT: Unfortunately this likely also means considerable lag while the new map generates.

Cheap packages offer neither the per-slot resources nor the in-depth control and customization that I need for a Tekkit server. I'm working on acquiring on a better server, though.

Yes, multirequests are fine as long as they provide the correct information.

Madman's ban appeal has been accepted. Somebody who gets a chance can unban him or else I will later today.

This server is great! If you like having to make flying leaps to get stuff in the near-empty mines while being knocked all over the place by reach hackers with kill auras pvp abusing, that is.

posted a message on Lawsuit Filed Against Mojang - This Time, For Obscure Patent
His "view of the situation" is so pathetically generic one can hardly call him anything but a patent troll. 20 years is a silly amount of time for a software patent, especially considering it's basically patenting an ENTIRE BRANCH OF SOFTWARE THEORY. Further, why haven't all the other thousands of programs using far more invasive DRM that falls under this been sued yet? And where does minecraft tie serial keys to specific computers? It doesn't.

There have been entire defenses built around lack of prior enforcement of a patent or other IP. That was the reason why Bethesda sued mojang, because they couldn't not enforce it. I fail to see why these guys should get any money when they have done such a ****-poor job protecting their patents that almost every program ever created uses it.
