Well.. I can say I am. I do have a decent video card from my old PC I want to install in this one, but I haven't had the chance to get a new power supply for this so it COULD use it.
I'm having a similar problem (though my highest FPS are much lower since my computer sucks), and its definitely not on a laptop. Comparing 1.5.1 played starting from one launcher to the other i go from about 18-25 fps to 9-20 fps, with it tending to be on the lower end rather consistently on the new one and the higher end consistently on the old.
I'd give you a report on the snapshots but i've yet to be able to get them running in the old launcher, probably because i'm stupid with such things. I can say the performance of them on the new launcher ends up being the same as the old ones played on the new launcher, though.
Well 1.5.1 runs worse for me from the new launcher than the old. If it's not something about the new one forcing it to use Java 6 and my machine not being as good with it (which shouldn't be the case, right? I really don't know here), that would be a good thing to fix.
I don't see why it wouldn't be possible for someone to make a converter that would layer things like the game would and rip them out to the sheet properly for the necessary directions.
I mean, they had to do something similar themselves to make the new default textures, didn't they? There's simply too great a margin for error in trying to get the compass needle and rotating background image for the clock pointed perfectly otherwise, not to mention the game handles said rotation in a very specific way.
Can someone make something that will do the clock and compass textures automatically? Kinda annoyed me that the one thing that i'd really need the help doing is the one thing it didn't do.
It'll be nice to finally be able to play with this again. Having to pass it up during all those prereleases so I could keep a texture pack updated sucked.
I actually used the whirlpool texture instead for the portals because a wall of those pulsating tiles didn't quite look right.. I might try it again though.
Sorry.. just checked the topic again for the first time in a while. I'll be updating the pack again when everything is finalized for the next major patch, because until then i've got too much work to do for classes (as I have for the past moth or so.. writing classes suck, especially when taught by an ex-journalist).
If you have this problem, I suggest not trying to use a minecart. It runs for a second or two, stops completely on the tracks for about 5 seconds, then suddenly jumps off a bunch of tiles at massive speed, then repeats the loop.
Erm.. trouble how? If you mean the animations in the file.. water yes.. I couldn't come up with anything that looked good for animated still water.. everything I tried just made me dizzy. I'm happy with the flowing stuff and lava though. If you meant from the screenshots in the thread.. that's just because the only thing I usually use that allows replacement textures for liquids is Optifine, and I couldn't use it at the times I took the pictures.. soon as we get the next full update that gets an Optifine version i'll most likely retake them. I apologize for them not being proprerly displayed as a result.
Updated for the latest snapshot. I didn't think just adding the cocoa pods two weeks ago would have been worth updating the entire pack, so I put it off until the next update that added a substantial amount of stuff (ie: this one).
Also, the Ruby sprite on the item sheet is currently unchanged until we find out if it will be used for anything down the line. Don't want to bother making something for it if it just ends up getting replaced entirely next week.
Er.. and since I realize I never responded to the comment (sorry.. must have slipped my mind..), the mushrooms will probably stay that size. Yes they look ridiculous on Mooshrooms, but the alternative is making them much less detailed (there's a tiny mushroom in LA) and i'd rather not, especially when the toadstool sprite is one of those things so easily recognizeable as being from LttP.
What would the Zelda texture pack that I don't consider my own but have been actively updating since the beginning nonstop even though the creator has long since left count as? I know the one time it showed up in texture pack threads several iterations ago it for some reason was classified it "abandoned".. or was it "outdated".. even though i've never stopped tending to it since.. the week after it was started? It's been a long time, I can't quite remember.

Hopefully this isn't something someone already mentioned.

I should have it done either tonight or tomorrow. My class is finally over and I actually have time again.
