The real issue at hand here is that because Mojang decided to announce it in this way, they stand to possibly fracture the community in multiple ways via fanboyism and overzealous keyboard warriors. I think this would have been much less of an issue if they'd had just said, "We are beginning development on console versions." and not named one in particular.
I've noticed a trend of 3 separate sets of negative arguments against this, spawning from just this one subject.
1. Some are upset that it was announced for one particular console and support for it's peripheral and not it's competitors.
2. Some are upset that console ports were announced this early into the development cycle.
and
3. Some are upset that funding priority isn't focused on finishing the product itself and is instead spread out.
That's not to say this is bad news, but I do believe it was executed poorly, at least for this week in particular.
