What really bothers me, however, is that shovels and hoes are being treated like weapons at all. They don't have sharp edges. They aren't designed to kill people. Just leave them out.

Erm, this isn't new. People in this thread seem to be unaware of the fact that tools of every variety have always done more damage than fists, including shovels. It makes perfect sense that they'd be included in the combat overhaul. Whacking someone with a shovel is far more damaging than a punch, it makes sense. They aren't going to replace swords by any means. But if you're in a tight spot and your sword broke it's nice to have an alternative to survive in a pinch.

I'm not a mapmaker and can't apply any of this information myself, but based one your well presented data I'd say this does look like yet another promising new function for mapmakers. Well done!

I believe that's the entire point. Not sure how familiar with this game you are, but people are far more creative than building simple houses. Check YouTube. The variety is wonderful. If you want a homely looking door, go find an Oak. If you are building some castle, find a Spruce. If you want some crazy Asian architecture, find a Birch.

If they were all the same texture, that'd be horribly boring.

I love how felxible they can be with these additions. Because everything is based on "Block State" instead of "Damage Values," it seems like there are no technical limitations to these sort of additions. Now they just need to make wall variants for every stone type, as well as stairs and slabs for smooth stone. The latter is less important to me, but would be welcome nonetheless.

posted a message on Disastrous Single Player Flaw in 1.8 -- Has this happened to you?
The fact that it's a snapshot alone should be enough warning. Mojang is busy developing 1.8. They can't go in and add a warning for every possible bad outcome that could result in loading into another version. To expect that is ridiculous. These are purely for TESTING PURPOSES. It's never recommended to load crucial data into a "beta" version of software, and that's true outside of Minecraft. You should have known better and backed up your world.

I wrote something like this once, and I got replied that most of the people bought minecraft expecting updates...

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who buys something because I like it how it is, and not because "it has potential, I buy it and then nag the devs because it's not how I want it".
    /rant
Precisely. Now, when I bought the game I did expect updates, considering it was in it's unfinished state. However upon release I was very happy to hear that the updates would continue. I would have been satisfied if they had not. My only problem would have been enchanting, because that was totally broken until it was changed in 1.3(?).

Honestly, the reason I rarely post on these forums is that I have a nasty habit of being convinced that there's a chance in nether that I might just get through to people. But honestly a lot of the people playing Minecraft these days appear to be children, whom are often convinced that they know everything and that they are entitled to anything. I could write a full detailed thesis on the matter and nothing would change. My only hope is that those like myself are making ourselves heard to the devs, so that they get the appreciation and understanding they deserve. I'd hate for them to cease updates due to "Jebs Law."

Hey OP, perhaps you should hold off complaining until the update is even close to being finished. Why? I dunno maybe because DinnerBone confirmed survival additions for this update 10 days ago right on his Twitter!

After I'm finished with the Great Inventory Rewrite of 2014, I'm going to take a look at some "adventury" survival features we have planned.

There you have it, so for god's sake give it a rest already. You kids are just never satisfied. I often browse but rarely post on this forum because the things I'd like to say to some of you people would probably violate the forum guidelines. It's positively infuriating reading this garbage. Be thankful. Be happy that you get to enjoy the worldwide phenomenon that is Minecraft. Because there truly is no game like it and having been a player since Minecraft Classic, I can tell you that it's thanks to the hard work of the devs that this game has become landslides better. And they will continue to make it better. Not many games update after official release, especially not years after. Show some appreciation, for once! I'd be delighted! I'm sure the devs would too.

You guys are ridiculous. You all sound so childish and it's positively entertaining. I'm fine being patient, Jeb created "Jebs Law" specifically for people like you, for shame.
