Keyword: significant. But they still worked as weapons, hence why they were more effective than punching alone. So when people tout this as a new feature, they've blatantly overlooked this fact. Even now they aren't effective when compared to a sword. At any rate, I feel like adding new weapons makes quite a bit of sense. I don't disagree that mechanics are important, but if they want more variation they should consider some additions.

I really don't know where people are getting this info, because it is entirely untrue. ALL tools functioned as weapons well before this update. They've always done more damage than punching alone. I too find it disappointing that the Combat Update added no new weapons, seems pretty silly.

Erm, this isn't new. People in this thread seem to be unaware of the fact that tools of every variety have always done more damage than fists, including shovels. It makes perfect sense that they'd be included in the combat overhaul. Whacking someone with a shovel is far more damaging than a punch, it makes sense. They aren't going to replace swords by any means. But if you're in a tight spot and your sword broke it's nice to have an alternative to survive in a pinch.

I'm not a mapmaker and can't apply any of this information myself, but based one your well presented data I'd say this does look like yet another promising new function for mapmakers. Well done!
Sep 5, 2014Erm, why is it that items I previously purchased on Xbox 360 Edition show up as free, but when I go to download them it attempts to charge me $0.26 I'm taxes? This seems really shady. I've never been taxed on a free download before and would like to know what is going on. Anyone else having this issue?Posted in: MCXONE: Discussion
Aug 12, 2014Ehhh, not sure if chests of every wood type will be a thing, but wouldn't mind it. Honestly, pressure plates should have more variety, given their need for camouflage.Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots

This "paper" looks like a piece of white board, since it is not visible in the shadows. And where did you see that in Japan made from birch doors? Unsuccessful texture....
Ever actually seen a Birch tree? That white part is the bark I'd imagine. But it's given sort of an Asia feel, so I also imagine it's meant to seem like rice paper. And no, they don't use Birch for all wood fixtures in Japan. However the texture of this door was merely selected for that theme, which is cool. Don't see why some of you dislike the variety, I welcome it.

I believe that's the entire point. Not sure how familiar with this game you are, but people are far more creative than building simple houses. Check YouTube. The variety is wonderful. If you want a homely looking door, go find an Oak. If you are building some castle, find a Spruce. If you want some crazy Asian architecture, find a Birch.
If they were all the same texture, that'd be horribly boring.
Aug 8, 2014I love how felxible they can be with these additions. Because everything is based on "Block State" instead of "Damage Values," it seems like there are no technical limitations to these sort of additions. Now they just need to make wall variants for every stone type, as well as stairs and slabs for smooth stone. The latter is less important to me, but would be welcome nonetheless.Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots

Mojang is busy developing 1.8. They can't go in and add a warning for every possible bad outcome that could result in loading into another version. To expect that is ridiculous. These are purely for TESTING PURPOSES. It's never recommended to load crucial data into a "beta" version of software, and that's true outside of Minecraft. You should have known better and backed up your world.Posted in: Discussion
Jul 31, 2014Looks like an oversized bat to me. There was another thread where this sort of thing would happen if you went to the "far lands." My guess is that mob renderings are bugged in some way. I'd make a bug report on the tracker.Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots

Quite a few people like the new biomes, you do not speak for the cummunity.
all those features are pretty much useless... new biomes? who gives a hec??? i can go download biomes a plenty <.<.
Not everyone plays the game the same way as you. Many people enjoy texture packs.
Those were internal changes, which they stated repeatedly. You clearly haven't got a clue how coding works at all.
the lighting system was as usual a lie.. just like the last thousand times they said "new lighting system" same lighting as there always was and always will be.
They are rewriting the code for much of the game from the ground up for the API... how is that not a rewrite. Again, you know nothing about coding.
Achievement systems have been present in games before XBL, that was a very uninformed comment. Once again, many people like them, not everyone plays like you.
They added particle effects, new loot, new enchantments, etc. They're clearly there.
Please tell me where you got those numbers because that's just ridiculous. C418's work has been praised by many players. How dare you insult him with such a vastly incorrect claim.
Any and all new blocks affect survival, that's why they are craftable. New things to build your base out of, clearly.
Minecraft is one of Twitch's top streamed games, you're just being ridiculous yet again.

What are you talking about? Survival mode functions precisely how it's supposed to. It's not supposed to a Bear Grylls game. You survive. You mine. You craft. What about that do you not understand?
because it wont be anything worth a damn or it wont actually effect the survival or should i say LACK THEIR OF the survival feeling in the game... right now its just a collection simulator without mods
On another note are you a time lord? Because you speak as if you know the features he's making before he's even announced them.
