How much experience do you have with Minecraft: I've been playing since mid-alpha
What's your favorite thing about Minecraft: I'd say my favorite thing is building, primarily building large projects.
How often can/will you play: I can play most days, but I wont necessarily play every day. That being said I will play most days, at least for a little bit.

I quite like it, but would you mind releasing the .class files so people don't have to compile it on their side. It'll make the mod a lot more popular.

    @jamolnng, yeah, I suppose you're right.
I've been doing general Java (and actually making my own games) so I'm always treating it as 'normal' programming instead of mod programming by default.

Also, on a side-note: Learning from Oracle then trying to understand Notch's code is like half speaking English and trying to talk with a person who has a heavy Russian accent.

I think that you should start out with the official Oracle tutorials to start out. Since they're the original developers of the Java language you can also learn about the intended style and the such.

I will warn you though, after programming for a year or two now, at 14 I can say that it's not just something that you immediately pick up. And hooking into that, it's not something everyone can do, while people can learn there is no substitute for natural talent.

The only way this would be possible is if someone pre-packaged the minecraft.jar for you, which would severely limit the amount of mods one could have.

While running Arch Linux on my computer I get the following error message while trying to start minecraft:

I'm currently running Arch Linux x64 (amd64), with the Sun JRE (version 7), and I installed lwjgl version 2.8.2 in the .minecraft/bin/natives directory. I also have the proprietary driver for my ATI video card.

Any idea why this could be happening?

    Thank you!

I apologize for the other posts, there seems to have been a posting error.

After I rebooted to finish the install it wouldn't let me boot back into xorg or Gnome, any ideas?

Alright, I'll get the proprietary drivers (I've been using the Open Source AMD driver), and I'll update LWJGL.

    Thank you!

EDIT: By the way, although this is off-topic, is 'archlinux.suspec.org' offline for you too?

Yes, I'm also on x64, I'll try what you said, and I'll get back to you with the results.
    Thank you!
(It's nice to see another Linux user!)

EDIT: I downgraded from openJDK7 to openJDK6 and now it's all working well! Thanks for the help eplkal

EDIT2: While I got it to work, its performed is extremely downgraded from when I play on Windows, what do you think could be causing this?

posted a message on Java Error On Linux
Hello Minecraft forums, I'm a quite regular Minecraft player (on my Windows side) but since I've been using Linux primarily for the last few weeks I thought I'd install Minecraft on it, yet I've run into a roadblock.

First off: I'm running a Linux distrobution named Arch Linux (someone on this forum is bound to be using it) running the desktop environment Gnome. I'm running openJDK 7 (or more specifically jre7-openJDK (as it's named in Arch's packages)).

I set up a little shell script to execute Minecraft for me:
    java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame

But I run into a problem while trying to run it:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
    	at javax.swing.MultiUIDefaults.getUIError(MultiUIDefaults.java:130)
    	at javax.swing.UIDefaults.getUI(UIDefaults.java:759)
    	at javax.swing.UIManager.getUI(UIManager.java:1002)
    	at javax.swing.JPanel.updateUI(JPanel.java:126)
    	at javax.swing.JPanel.<init>(JPanel.java:86)
    	at javax.swing.JPanel.<init>(JPanel.java:109)
    	at javax.swing.JPanel.<init>(JPanel.java:117)
    	at net.minecraft.TransparentPanel.<init>(TransparentPanel.java:12)
    	at net.minecraft.LoginForm.<init>(LoginForm.java:60)
    	at net.minecraft.LauncherFrame.<init>(LauncherFrame.java:30)
    	at net.minecraft.LauncherFrame.main(LauncherFrame.java:158)

Even being a Java programmer I've no idea how to fix this.

Might anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

    Thank you!

Well, since you can code everything Notch can (in practice, you probably can't, but in theory you can) if he made it, then you can.

Sadly I don't know much about modding, so I don't know how one would do this.

posted a message on Finding the seed from the level.dat file
Hello Minecraft Forums, I've recently been developing a small Java app for viewing seeds, but I have no idea how I retrieve that from the level.dat (where I presume it's stored). I was wondering if someone else he had already figured that out and would be willing to share with me how I could find it, or how I would find how to find it (it's better to learn how to fish than get given a fish)

    Thank you!
    Crockeo

    P.S.
Yes, I know that there are other programs that already do this, I'm just practicing my Java skills so I don't get rusty.

I got this too when I had Zombe's modpack installed, I simply uninstalled that and it worked. Sadly that seems to be the cause.
