I'm a big fan of the Mindcrack guys, but my favorite would have to be Etho (EthosLab) because of his dedication to making entertaining, high-quality Minecraft videos, his personality, and his creativity in-game. I also like Doc (Docm77) and Bdubs (BdoubleO100).

posted a message on Additional and New Sounds
This is an idea I came up with today. I apologize if a similar suggestion has already been made; I didn't see one. My idea is that more sounds should be added for actions in the game. Updates over time have added rail sounds, anvil sounds, etc., but many other blocks/functions still do not make sounds. You could consider this a positive or a negative, but I think that adding more sounds would make the game environment feel more alive and make it more interesting to interact with. Some sounds I'm suggesting include:
    • For crafting: a subtle shuffling of tools or a saw cutting wood (could include several sounds and be random or vary for different types of items); example: something along the lines of this or this maybe? I couldn't find anything for someone shuffling tools.
    • For smelting: a dull roar of hot flames; example: something like this at a low volume
    • For brewing potions: bubbling noises when the brewing stand is active and shuffling/placing of glass bottles when inserting/removing bottles; example: this is the closest thing I could find for glass bottles shuffling or rattling, as if someone were pulling them out of a bag. Imagine it with less bottles and only for one or two seconds. An alternative is this for inserting/removing glass bottles. When the brewing stand is active, this is what I was thinking of.
    • For enchanting: a mystical/magical sort of ambiance when in inventory; example: imagine ambient sounds like this while enchanting or near an enchantment table
    • For filling cauldrons: pouring water/boiling water; example: this or this
    • For chopping trees: an axe cutting into a tree trunk, example: I was thinking of something like this, but now that I've thought about it, the rapid vidual movement when breaking a block doesn't fit with the slower frequency of the sound effect. I might remove this one from the list.
    • For fishing: when casting, a line being cast and the bobber landing in the water; when reeling, the line being quickly pulled in; example: for casting, this is the closest thing I could find to what I'm talking about; for reeling in, I found this. Just imagine it not as long.
I also think that more ambient sounds should be added and that the old ones Mojang removed should be re-implemented. For instance, when in certain biomes, different natural noises could be heard (like tree leaves rustling or birds chirping in forest biomes). Also, weather could affect what sounds are heard (wind when raining/snowing in plains or tundra biomes, etc.).

Because hearing sounds for tasks we often do in Minecraft over and over could get irritating, the volume of ambient loops could be low, as well as the frequency at which the other additional sounds I've listed are heard.

What do you think? If you have any more ideas, feel free to post them. I might add some more myself if I think of any.

posted a message on 1.5.2| Legion Gaming | Survival | New
I might be interested in joining, but I have a couple of questions first:
    1. Is this 100% vanilla survival (no plugins, PvP enabled, etc.)?
    2. What are the server rules?
    3. How many players are there?
    Thanks,

posted a message on 128x Texture packs won't work?
    Quote from Taiine

It is set that way as a new safe guard for systems that can't handle the higher res packs. If you ran a hd pack, even with optifine minecraft may still be sucking up to much memory from your system. So if it finds that it does one of two things:
    Reset back to default
    Force close the game

Optifine does help with speeding the game up, but it can't help much if your system isn't to good. I know my laptop with optifine could still not go past 32x packs, with fancy OFF, and view low, to get at least playable fps.

Ah, thank you for the explanation.

posted a message on 128x Texture packs won't work?
I have the same issue. In the texture packs menu, I click on a 128x or higher-res texture pack, but the default pack is displayed as if it were still selected. The game will act like it is loading the texture pack, but will never actually switch to it. The default remains selected. I think the reason this happens is simply that my computer cannot handle anything above 64x. However, if anyone has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

posted a message on Error unstitching file! java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
I followed all the instructions, but I still get the same error message. The texture pack I am trying to convert is Vanilla DXII from the Vanilla Series by CoCoNUT31. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: I realized I hadn't been running the batch file itself, but the unstitcher program. Still, when I double-click to run the .bat file, a console log opens and immediately closes. Is there a fix for this, or am I simply doing something wrong.

Edit again: Figured it out. It seems to not work on Windows XP, but it worked on my Windows 7 laptop, even without the batch file.

So this mod won't work in 1.5.2

No, because there hasn't been a 1.5.2 update for the core GLSL shaders mod. Essentially, SEUS is a mod of a mod - the GLSL shaders, modified by karyonix. SEUS, as stated in EskimoNoise's signature, can run with any version of karyonix's shaders and Optifine for performance increase and optimization. But, since there hasn't been an update for GLSL to 1.5.2, you're out of luck - for now anyway.

    has this been updated 1.5.2?

SEUS does not need to be updated; it is the core mod, the GLSL shaders, that does. Any version of SEUS will work on any version of GLSL, and the latest is only for Minecraft 1.5.1 and Optifine B3 for 1.5.1. The latest GLSL can be found here, and the Optifine version here, in the "Ultra" section. Download any version of SEUS you like, follow the instructions for installation of all three required components, and voila!

As I said in a previous reply, I tested pretty much every version, and stock RC6 or a dev version of it is the closest I can find to the water you linked to apart from the colour of it.
As for performance, resolution and draw distance have the biggest hit on framerates. The lower you can get those without it becoming a postage stamp sized popup hell, the better your framerate will be.

I contacted Sonic Ether about it, and I am currently waiting for a reply. Thanks for all your help. I apologize for the trouble.

He was asking about something else to do with his water, he saw some pics from an unnamed set of shaders with a certain water effect and won't be happy until he can reproduce it.
I know what you mean about the idiots though, it was the same when 1.5 came out, then the same when 1.5.1 came out, why should 1.5.2 be any different.

The reflective water effect is in a version of SEUS. He posted a video on YouTube showing the effect he created, but I'm 1) not sure what version it is in, 2) why my water looks so different - as seen in my posts above, and 3) if there is any way to resolve the issue. But don't worry too much about it. My game runs at 15 or below FPS when using the latest version of SEUS, so I'm assuming my computer needs some upgrades. I can however run the v8 Lite version at a stable 30-40 FPS, and I can live with that. My biggest question is what version of SEUS is the water in and why my water looks so odd. (Maybe that's how it's supposed to look? I know that the water shaders have changed across different SEUS versions.) But don't trouble yourself trying to find out; it's not that big of a deal. The water shaders are not a necessity; I just like how they look. I can ask around on YouTube or maybe ask Sonic Ether himself.

None of the Chocapic shaders changed the water. I'm wondering if an earlier version of GLSL for 1.4.7 is required.

The water you want looks like it's RC6 based rather than RC7
Give these Chocapic shaders a try

I put them in the "shaderpacks" folder, but the graphics look just like the vanilla ones, as far as I can tell. I'm assuming I need a different GLSL and Optifine version.

Sorry to give you all this trouble.

You definitely need to update your drivers
    http://sites.amd.com...deon_xp-32.aspx
Also I noticed you're running the older Karyonix preview with Optifine A8, go to page 68 of the Karyonix thread and get the 1.45.1 version which uses Optifine B3

Thanks for your help so far. Doing so fixed a lot of the issues, but water (and lava) are still wonky. Essentially, I'm looking for the water and lava to look like this:

But it looks like this in my game:

Was there a change between versions or is my graphics card simply not good enough? Also, after doing what you suggested, tree leaves and grass no longer move. Was this changed between versions, as well?

With that video card I hope you mean an HD 6570 because I have no idea what a EAH6570 is. But the main issue is the shader itself, it is a preview so there are a lot of bugs, 2 you might want to update your drivers.

Yes, I think that is what it is. I am willing to update my drivers, but I will need assistance. What are drivers, and how do I update them? I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to computers and such.

Hello. I followed the instructions as told in video (I didn't want to use the Magic Launcher) and all the components installed correctly, but I'm getting some unwanted effects, and I was wondering if I can resolve them. I'm using the latest shader pack for 1.4.7 with 1.5.1, and there are a lot of graphics-related issues. Pictures say 1,000 words, and I can only type so many, so here are some screens:

    Mobs and items appear white:

Water looks odd. It is too clear and has a lot of jagged lines:

    Certain mobs are completely invisible:

    Normal:

    Odd shadows:

Clouds have jagged lines (happens without any shaders; only Optifine):

Then I tried the v8 Lite version and I experienced a significant FPS increase, but I really wanted the new water reflection and ripple effects, as seen in video. Also, there were still some issues with water:

I imagine the problem is my crummy computer. Here are the full specs:

    OS: Windows XP SP3
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3GHz
    Memory: 2GB Ram
    GFX: ATI EAH6570 1GB DDR3

If you need any more info, please ask. Unfortunately, I cannot add any more RAM as it stands at the moment. Any help is greatly appreciated.
