I am a student studying under the IB diploma. As part of the IB requirements, I am required to write a research essay otherwise known as the "Extended Essay". My research topic revolves around using Minecraft in an educational setting, and as part of my research, I plan on incorporating the opinions of individuals around the world who have interacted with Minecraft in some way or another.

I'm fully aware of MinecraftEdu, I just thought it might be interesting to hear other people's opinions on this topic since I've seen a lot of debate about it
For the past few months I've been looking into Minecraft as a tool that can be used in education, I've found quite a large number of interesting opinions and facts of how Minecraft can be used in educating people whether they're small kids or young adults.
I'd love to hear the opinion of the Minecraft community on how Minecraft can be used as an educational tool!
Here's my opinion:
From my research, I felt that Minecraft does indeed have the potential to be an educational tool, however, due to the way it is designed, an external resource of information would be needed to turn the gameplay into a resource that can be used for education. An unmodified Minecraft copy doesn't have a GUI that would allow the player to learn about how, for example, the smelting and creation of different tools and items are made in the real world, or how glass is created and shaped. Rather, I feel that Minecraft simply has a simplified aspect of how these things actually occur in the real world, which is quite justified since Minecraft is created as a game for entertainment rather for educational purposes.
