I had this happen to me on my old server. But it was two in two separate carts on the same track next to each other.

You can set your computer to use part of your hard disk like it would RAM. this could give you a little extra if you need it.

I have enough free RAM, but when I set the batch file to give the server 2GB, the program closes out.

You need all your server files (and the program to run it) in a folder. Go find the program you used to turn it on last time.

Yes, matching xmx with xms does help in the short term.

Make sure you're not exceeding your total RAM, and make sure your CPU is not sitting at 100%

If you have say, 4GB of RAM, you only want to dedicate 1.5GB to the server so the rest is left to windows + minecraft game.

I have a dedicated box (GOT IT FREE :biggrin.gif:) with 4GB. I run the game on my desktop. Would 2GB be ok then? But if so, why does it crash when I put 2048 as the value for Xmx and Xms at the same time?

Which value do I change? The batch file contains the code:
    "java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui"

Do I change the -Xmx value or the -Xms value? When I change them both to 2048 it won't run properly and I still have lag.

Exe is stuck at 300mb if I remember correctly.

How d'you start up the server ?

I'm guessing it's start.bat or similar -- open it up in text editor and change the value that reads 1024 (if you set 1GB if ram -- pretty standard) to however much you want.

I use the .exe, not the .bat version.

I've been looking around for ways to add RAM to my server. Ever since 1.7.3 came out, it's started to lag. It actually caused a whole map file to corrupt, pieces of the map just started disappearing. I want to add more dedicated RAM to my server, but don't know how. I don't get the error saying I don't have enough ram. Any tips or tricks?

That's pretty dang cool dude. Would be awesome to get a replica built of the USS Enterprise (The big E from WWII) and be able to fly WWII planes off of it :smile.gif:

    YOU SHOULD DO THAT.

Also gotta love the Mander, my friend just made a sick Gangar on my server.

    1. Why didn't you block him?
    2. Run virus scan.
    3. Did you accept or decline the download?

This. Also, I think there is a report feature for skype, go look for it. Also, I highly doubt someone who is running his mouth like that was able to do too much. He seems more talk than walk. If your computer starts having issues, then you may have a problem. But if it's deleting everything the problems should appear instantly not days from now.

So me and some friends play on and off on my private server. We were starting a city on our last map, but the server lost power and the map was gone. So we started a new one.

This is a view into the first section of our city from the Guard tower at the entrance.

View of the whole first area. The little building in the right bottom corner is the first hub of a minecart system we started on.

This is the view to the front gate. You can't see it, but I have dispensers hidden in the sides of the entry area to stop whatever I need to stop.

This is a daytime view of the city hall/mayor's home. There is also a second story balcony for the mayor to address his subj.. I mean citizens. The door in the right bottom corner is to the jail. The door in the bottom left is to the police station.

Lastly, NYAN CAT. My friend did this in a couple hours, it's the main view from the guard tower in the main city section. Also what the mayor will see when he wakes looks out his windows.

We used TooManyItems and I took the pictures while flying in MyCraft. Also, the texture pack is Tronic HD, which in my opinion makes everything look just so neat.

    More pictures to come soon

    Quote from Crazedgoalie56

I understand your point. However, the game is bound to advance in technology. More and more people are clamoring for more advanced technology. And while I think it will be a LONG time before integrated cars and what not, kevlar is a fairly simple idea. And it wouldn't have to actually be kevlar, I was more going for a reinforced string/fiber kind of idea.

    Quote from themohawkninja

People embrace ideas that belong in the game. Kevlar is beyond what technology minecraft has. If I threw you on a beach somewhere in the middle of nowhere, your not going to be able to make kevlar.

As I said earlier, I was more or less going for the reinforced fiber/string idea. Kevlar was just what came to mind. You could in fact call it whatever you, still have the same effect. Heck, the first bulletproof vest was made in the like early twenties when a guy from Chicago wove a bunch of sheets of woven silk together. So it doesn't just have to be Kevlar
